Bars 78-85 are REALLY hard, and it would seem that Scarlatti has hidden that fiendish challenge within an optimistic sonata with the same smirk on his face as Velasco painted in his portrait from the time the Essercizi (Kk 1-30) were written!
I'm sure this sonata was a piece of cake to Scarlatti, but why do you say he smirks in his portrait? I've always thought he looked quite glum, for a man who wrote such lighthearted music. 😂

Some mediterranean sun shining through here. => [@thegildedpagestudio6485/ 3 months ago/ 3 months] This is mercurial and VERY hard to play, as though Scarlatti was smirking (as he gently does in his portrait) and challenging the player to perform this in one piece! A wonderful yet technically very dangerous sonata. Play it and you will find out! :p
This is such a fun piece! 😊😄
