i love how the title gives me the same feels whenever i hear this piece. it does indeed, feels like a first impression of someone who will be a big part of your life.
Still a just-right love theme. Never goes overboard. Gets a little awkward, like most of the situations on-screen. Keeps some things pent-up. It also helps that they play this theme A LOT. A love theme doesn't have to be big and sweeping. It just has to capture the mood. This captures the mood of two people's feelings and their inability to express them.
I really don't get how a lot of people dislike the film. I honestly enjoyed watching it when I was a freshman in college especially the ending scene. The mood of the movie makes me think of my high school days, how good life was and also the dumb decisions I made with my friends. I don't know what went wrong but life went downhill when I got to college. I wish I can relive my senior high days.
The film feels so natural, the sense of fashion in character design is gorgeous, ost and scenaries bring memories of a never lived time, is just trivial story of young souls in transiction to adult phase with emocional conflicts, that simplystic and natural aspect that made the film so enjoyable for me, is really good to watch
I love this movie so much for so many reasons. This film is so different from other ghibli films in its tone, style and direction in a way it reminds me of the movies I enjoyed as a child, that I could watch over and over again. It never gets boring no matter how many times I watch it because the vibes are simply immaculate.
It gets better and better as you get older. People watching the movie take it at face value as an overwrought teen drama comedy, rather than seeing the way it's a nostalgic reflection on teenage life instead.
I enjoy this movie a lot aswell. The critique i always read about it, is that Rikako is just unlikeable/selfish and Taku is just stupid for falling for her despite that. I always viewed these character trades as a positive and also quite unique, because this movie is not overly romantic with perfect people falling having perfect relationship OR overly dramatic with horrific tragedies happening. It's just awkward teenager's having awkward relationships and dates, just like it also happens in life. Not a lot happening just a slice of life.

people change and grow, regret is a thing. I think the movie is a great expression of how the past isn't really a concrete basis on how you feel towards a person, though not generally applicable. The movie shows the MCs empathy towards the FMC. It's all about accompaniment and deeming what was immature, regrettable and precious moments. The fact that a person would spontaneously agree to go with you to a trip that turned out not be but an inconvenience at worst. Looking back, that trip would be nostalgic and the misunderstandings fade as you realize it's not really a big deal, you were kids, no one was harmed, and you didn't know better. I think that love does not need beautiful and perfect occurences to bloom, love is beautiful itself. I think because of all of these, this is a really good slice of life film. and I hope I have properly shared my mind

Some may say this sounds like a OST from NumberJacks... but there’s just something about this OST, it so.. unusual. I can’t tell if I should be happy or not, even though I might not like the story of Ocean Waves. I just love the vibe, the artistry is so beautiful In this movie... it just give you a space between time, viewing day to day lifes... In school... in a city... I just love that type of vibe too in Ghibli films.

Definitely overcomplicated, but it fits the teenage drama. Overcomplicated for no reason. Overall I think it’s an okay movie with a fantastic score. Ghibli visuals are obviously amazing, even when it’s not lead by Miyazaki or Takahata.

A lot of people say this is the worst Ghibli movie but honestly, I really liked it. The love interest was a bitch but it was just a charming movie. It had a lot of heart compared to something totally bland like Tales from Earthsea
All movies from Ghibli hit very differently, and it's totally understandable for some that they may not appreciate Ocean Waves as much as you did. Same applies to Tales from Earthsea, which you didn't like but others did.... That said I need to confess that I'd side with you in a heart beat haha.
The song reminds me of Animal Crossing, I don’t know why ? (maybe the atmosphere and the mood of the song) Even if I didn’t really like the movie at the first watching, this is a masterpiece.
