That's cool that Neil is looking out for the driver who got killed. All those scenes with De Niro/Voight were so amazing they should have kept this one in
UNBELIEVABLE that Michael Mann cut off these scene. That’s show us how touching Neil is too think about Michael’s wife, and Breedan’s too 😢😢. Even after the failed hold up, he didn’t go without let them their slice. It’s very CLASSY…😍
Yeah, this would have been a sweet scene to include. I love hearing them talk, just like Siskel said in his review. Their technical criminal chit-chat is just awesome and genuine. Mann's the best!
That shoot out in downtown L.A. gives me gose bumps to this day. Like 25 years ago!. The only scene that comes close is the final battle scene in The Kingdom
I remember my dad watching this film, and feeling conflicted about Neil getting killed. He knew the character was bad, but thought there was a certain principle to him.
Yeah. They referenced that in their final phone call. Nate couldn’t find anybody so he was going to hold on to Breedan’s envelope in case anybody came for it.
You should check out One Heat Minute Productions podcast, they cover all of Mann's films over there and have some very interesting guests (including Mann himself!)
If you go to about 1 hr 59min in the movie, right after Neil kills Trejo, there is a short scene with him driving it on the highway. He makes a phone call to Nate while driving it.
Breeden was a last minute replacement for Trejo who sold Neil out. Eventhough Breedwn was dead, Neil gave Nate Breeden's cut in case he had family members that came around looking for it.
@@bobbyleglocks1992 yah but after seeing the scene I feel like he had other options. He could have told the gang over the phone what was happening with waingro and van Zant and then gotten the jump on them together. They had the security bypass installed, they already dumped the LAPDs tracking devices, they could have held off on the heist. Then again Trejo was under duress and may not have been thinking straight, but just the same he was a fool to believe they would have let him and his wife walk away unharmed.
@@k7in846 oh I agree, but i think he was only thinking of his wife. Also, weren't they on a time schedule with the heist? Trejo should have definitely said something either way. And that the cops were already tipped off to the heist.
ahh right i see thats nice of him ! lol i really liked this scene wish they kept it in its jus so slick they way they respond to each other in word quick answers the whole movie was amazin
@BrinsonMHarris That's De Niro's character who hands Voight the bag. De Niro is sitting in the driver's seat in the car next to Voigt's (notice that Voigt had slid over to the front passenger seat of his vehicle for this conversation). The bag holds Kelso's cut, which was 10% of the bank heist haul, less his $100K advance. Assuming they got away with $7.5 mil (two thirds of their projected gross), that would be an extra $650K for Kelso, though I assume Voight would get a piece of that.
Call me petty, but as a Bimmer fanboy, kinda bummed out that 850CSi didn't make it in the movie. The car's styling really fits the aesthetic of the film. It's cool, both 90s and futuristic; ageless, just like the film.
i don't know if you ever found out or saw the scene by now, but it wasn't anything that clarified the plot. neil gets into the camaro with eady already inside waiting for him. he looks over to her and tries to connect with her by touching her face, but she turns her head away. clearly still angry/disappointed with him. seemingly annoyed, yet understanding of her reaction, neil quietly pulls out of the parking space and drives away with her. that was it.
@videolover428 I think after they wrapped this scene, He realized after that the conversation didn't sound good. He probably thought it was a good scene but didn't find out later the sound was bad.
McCauley was talking about the bag he handed over to Nate. Inside the bag were Kelso 10% cut of the take and Breeden's cut (the driver) in case he had a loved one. The other bag was lost with Cheritto.
So who is in the car next to Nate (Voight) that hands him the bag of cash? This has to be after the bank job, and Chris is doped up with Dr. Jeremey Piven morphine for a fresh M-16 wound to the collar bone, so it probably isn't Chris. Any ideas? Great scene though.
So kelso got his share lol. And Voight is actually the one who screwed them with the van zent deal he tried to do. Waingro was their downfall, because of him Cherito said "slick" at the robbery, and that is what gave Al pacino their identity. Then Waingro screwed them up. Deniro also screwed up by not killing Waingro when he wanted to.
yortzandat Hahaha. I like the look on Chris's face, like "Omg, this guy fucking psychopath". Cherito seems to be thinking the same thing too when gets up and sits at the stool. You cant sit close to fuckers like that..
This makes sense to cut it out cuz kelso got his 100 thou, and shit went bad so i dont see neil giving kelso his cut after that. Neil was on the move and had two friends killed so kelso lost out. Fair in my opinion.
Neil should have known there could be something wrong when Trejo called to say cops were on him, and he could not dump them. Trejo was supposed to say this because waingrow made him say this

@hsybcmpny He actually said that's Kelso's share, 10%. That's the guy that got them the plans for the job, and the alarm code stuff.
He was going to take care of Breeden. Classy.
Yeah. They referenced that in their final phone call. Nate couldn’t find anybody so he was going to hold on to Breedan’s envelope in case anybody came for it.
Michael Mann is one of the best directors in my opinion.

I wish they would have shown more of that 850i that was a bad ass car at that time!Robert deniro also drives one in the score.
Agreed. The car's styling really fits the aesthetic of the film.

I imagine he sold out due to getting beaten to death and hearing his wife scream as she was violated.
@@erich.2550 yea I would of done the same
If you see the deleted scene, he did it for his wife. Then he got a beaten.

@timHYPERLITE Ireland is an English speaking country and in 1995 was still a relatively easy country to disappear in.
Oh OK, I hadn't got around to seeing it yet. Thanks.
They should of kept ALL these scenes...
A few ppl still profited from the score, just not Neil

@timHYPERLITE It was just a tourist visa. He goes anywhere he wants once he gets to Dublin. These are places with no extradition. I think.

@misterdeadly1 Duh! I missed that they were in two cars, but watching it again it's obvious. Don't know why I didn't notice. Thanks!
Mann never made another good movie like this one ):
Public enemies was just as good
91exile public enemies was trash, The Insider was a masterpiece
Maxfield Nuckels manhunter was great
@91exile
You sonned urself...
Thief 1981
James Caan
'The Insider' and 'Collateral' exist. 'Public Enemies' is hardly a masterpiece, but still good on its own.
Why? Why did I want these guys to WIN so badly?
We all did lol ... but sadly the "good guy" had to win :(

Scene was cut due to time.
I don't get it. Nate says for Neil and Chris to go to Ireland, but didn't Neil want to go to New Zealand with Eady?
Because Eady was a loose end. She’s a random chick out of nowhere
New Zealand was the original out, this was Neil’s new out because he couldn’t be sure of the old one.
you should never cut anything out with Voight. Looks like the sound was bad on the scene though. Too bad.
@timHYPERLITE Yeah im not too sure. I just assumed that those places were significant for some sort of reason.
The blue in this scene….

whats the significance of the zoom in on the truck head light at the end of the scene? someone listening or just the cut not edited?
