Kind of a weird one from Chris, I've seen some weird ass twitter comments about the ad, they definitely exist. On one hand you have some kind of faction forming around insulting everyone who likes this ad and painting anime as something inherently perverted, and on the other hand you have the usual crazy people that wille type whatever hot take they think will give them a signal boost regardless of how demented it would actually be in real life. Chris showed up late, said "Huh, seems like normal people are mostly talking about it now, this was just some big nothing burger!" Like yeah, it is a nothingburger now, because the "outrage" (whatever requirement you need for something to be an outrage is) got shut down hard and fast, nobody was giving them any time of day and they were being mocked, it's over.
Other UA-camrs who covered the ad managed to find examples of the outrage against it. No surprise, it's the same NPCs whose life goal is to recycle Feminist Frequency talking points into attacks on every piece of Japanese art they see. Methinks Chris just had a big rant brewing inside and pulled the trigger at the first opportunity.
@ferrishthefish Also, Chris starts this off with the Post Millenial tweet, which does not mention controversy. Chris equated "viral" to "controversial" and just went crazy from there.

There are, but they are like 10 random nobodies. So much so that people always bring the same 3 screenshots of a couple of examples where half of them are jokes.
i really advice to to research before doing a video. i didn't know what the outrage was about, but with some simple search i got screenshots from outrage tweets that got deleted by their creators or moderators. it spiraled from pretty disgusting anti-japanese comments where they complained about anime doing whitewashing, japan is "too conservative and racist" and some even tried to portrait this normal Family ad ad p*do-ad bc all anime is p*do-bait. when people pointed out that's just an artstyle and nothing about it, the people doubled down with really racist comments about japan. I hate lolicon scene as well and think the growth became a problem, but pretending that's all japan and anime is, is disgusting.
so true, it took me less then 1min googling to figure the whole story out. i can't imagine that he really did any research since i got a good article explaining it as the first result and the first pic result i got an article with all screenshots of different outrage tweets. i wouldn't mind if he concluded after doing any research that the whole story blew up for nothing. it started by a few stupid tweets about people clearly showing that they talk about something they don't know anything. Franky that was my conclusion after 1min research. But the outrage for the outrage narrative is plain wrong in this case and it feels to me thta this was his conclusion before even researching because as i said, the first google result explained it, and found under the first pic examples of those tweets in questions.

Chris, I'm sorry but you and your fans missed the boat on this one. They(the original tweet owner) nuked the threads that were there accusing the ad being for p*dophillic. The comment about " Why are the proportions the same with the kid and the mom?" was the only real trace left on that. Rev Says Desu covered it, it's absolutely bonkers. But I've seen whole threads disappearing a lot lately, not just single tweets in those threads. So hundreds/thousands of replies can vanish, now.
Oh shit, I'll make sure to check that out then. I was about to take this at face value because Chris is level-headed and not terminally online, but that also means he could have missed the drama entirely. Channels like Rev that *are* terminally online are useful for tracing the drama to its source.
Many of those qrts got particularly hostile it wasn't always the original qrt as well. Most people I knew when saw it were just like oh thats wholesome just for someone to get violently angry about you enjoying an ad.
@@areadenial2343 Yeah Chris is great, and Rev is online a lot but it's apparently the only way to get thread sources now. Watched it happen last night as I was discussing something with someone and they said something really bigoted, realized it didn't help the same argument and deleted it. Then acted like they never sent it. Twitter is insane, I really need to spend less time there.
Are you telling Chris? He showed a lot of comments about people confused about this and pretending that they're crazy. It's almost as if Chris hates the right and wants to pretend they're bad.
I have seen this happen so many times. Approximately two people complain about a normal thing. The news says its an explosion of outcry, and then EVERYONE is complaining about the non-existent outcry.
The news stories are just doing what I would do to write essays in University, make up some bullshit opinion I needed to push and then find the internet equivalent of a raving crackhead on a corner, just so I could write "This opinion is held by many".
I swear these people don’t even look for people complaining anymore, they just see something that they think will “piss off the libs” and then start bitching about a person they made up in their heads
Twitterinos really do be clutching at straws at this point. *(gets canceled and doxxed for not affirming whether said straws were made of environmentally friendly paper)*
the 1 post that i saw which could clarify the whole this was a comparison between japanese McD twitter to japanese McD twitter. It was this normie ad on one page and a trans black person crying genocide on the other, and the post pointing at how one showed the product being enjoyed by clients and the other was politics with no link to food whatsoever.
I love Chris' classic videos, they still hold up for me in terms of humor and opinions. I think he was pretty clear with how he felt in them so I never thought he betrayed anyone.
I kept hearing about this outrage but the only thing I saw was people complaining about the outrage and others making fun of the idea that McDonald's just makes a family materialize in to existence.
I saw people complaining about the mom and kid looking white therefore wah no diversity why white people at the center of everything, and weird claims of the mom being the same proportions as the daughter therefore p3d0philia, and a lot of claims it is appealing to p3d0s.Not to mention boohoo it promotes heteronormativity. but the vast majority was a lot of leftists asserting white supremes and nazis love this ad cause it's a white family somehow and general complaining about white people because of the mother and daughter in the ad or some people they've made up in their head will use it as some call to arms. The vast majority of projection was from leftists aka this outrage about just a cute ad is brought to you by the same people that said "It's just pronouns in a game, stop being so up set" The twitter account MasteroftheTDS compiled a lot of them
This is how I felt about the starbucks red christmas cup years ago. I remember seeing lots of people complaining about the people complaining about the cup, but never once saw someone complaining about the cup.
I mean there were the usual small handful of attention seekers and lunatics buying one and then filming themselves throwing it in the trash or some dumb shit to try and "stick it" to Starbucks. No one that exists off the internet or Fox News gave a single shit.
That's cause it got regulated, the original tweets that complain about the ad have been removed. Only ones that argue against the complainers are left over. You are just late to the party.
So…if im getting this right…is that the original article bullshitted about an initial controversy, but started to rile up people in response to an outrage that never existed.
The outrage did exist, it's just very small and hard to find. The only reason it blew up was because influencers promoted those few comments, then their following commented on the outrage, and it snowballed from there.
@@TheMorbidHoboIt's why I can't fully get behind this video. Sure the controversy is dumb, and I get that people tend to have their Don Quixote moments when it comes to their political agendas, but to imply that something was made up because you just didn't see anything, kinda shows Chris didn't do as much research as he prpbably should have. Too many Conservatives think every Liberal hates family and conservative values. No. I am a so-called Liberal; a registered Democrat, and I believe families are good, and traditional, nuclear families are great, and there are plenty of Liberals who feel the same.
At this point I'm pretty sure the whole idea that it was "controversal" was started by McDonalds themselves. Just make the most uncontroversal looking ad ever, make some bots say "So many people find this controversial?!??!?" and profit. People will argue amonst themselves saying the "other side" is a snowflake. Any publicity is good publicity.

I dunno if comments were deleted, but other creators covered the story and had no trouble finding insane tales in the top comments. I'm now trying to figure out if you're just lying or if maybe the comments were removed before you approached the scene
This is just a guess but I think Chris purposely left the comments of the people who are ACTUALLY mad about this out to try and push the point of the video further, its a good point but its not hard to find the ones who are upset so it is kind of annoying how he acts super over the top trying to make others look crazy, I am a long time fan and I understand that is part of his comedy but those older videos felt like he put a ton of work into them, this video just feels quick and borderline lazy compared to his old.
I'm thinking he started with the premise that people who want to make America great deserve to be kneecapped, and then 'provided' the lack of evidence required to fulfill his a priori mission. The real challenge would be to find a Californian college kid who couldn't spout psuedo-intellectual buzzwords for 15 minutes straight about race, cis-gender, queer marginalization and the tragic lack of diversity and inclusion in this "race supremacist" ad.

Chris showed up late, said "Huh, seems like normal people are mostly talking about it now, this was just some big nothing burger!"
Like yeah, it is a nothingburger now, because the "outrage" (whatever requirement you need for something to be an outrage is) got shut down hard and fast, nobody was giving them any time of day and they were being mocked, it's over.
Other UA-camrs who covered the ad managed to find examples of the outrage against it. No surprise, it's the same NPCs whose life goal is to recycle Feminist Frequency talking points into attacks on every piece of Japanese art they see.

What surprises me the most about this video is the fact that I heard the words "Breaking Benjamin" for the first time since high school.
i really advice to to research before doing a video. i didn't know what the outrage was about, but with some simple search i got screenshots from outrage tweets that got deleted by their creators or moderators. it spiraled from pretty disgusting anti-japanese comments where they complained about anime doing whitewashing, japan is "too conservative and racist" and some even tried to portrait this normal Family ad ad p*do-ad bc all anime is p*do-bait. when people pointed out that's just an artstyle and nothing about it, the people doubled down with really racist comments about japan.
