- “Target ends up being better because Walmart is too busy being chaotic. You know what you didn't see when you went to Target, you didn't see a proposal on aisle eight. You didn't see someone trying on clothes that do not fit them” - Josh Johnson
“You've been working your whole life to not be a Walmart person. I, on the other hand, have always embraced the Walmart lifestyle..because when I try to become a Target person, I realize it requires too much drinking of wine and the overpaying for regular ass things.” - Dulcé Sloan

“I’ve been fighting my whole life to escape Walmart” 😂 yes! You said it ! May we all escape.
When you Target level in your mind, but Walmart level in your pocket, hitting the Dollar Tree, is me. 🔥🥳🙄
Yes!
Ikr😂😂😂. I needed that
DLTR!!!! I helped start 3 different DLTR stores and married a District Manager. I knew they were going to be big day 1. Check out their stock over lifetime. Cha ching! Love me some Fiddle Faddle, and make SURE to buy some "Awesome" cleaner. Best cleaner ever made all purpose.
Target is a selective lady she’s not out here loose with all the groceries 😂😂
"Target is a selective lady. She's not out here loose with all the groceries." 🤣😭💀😩😂
Team Target here. Target’s store design seems to convey “We like and care about our customers.” On the other hand, Walmart seems to communicate “We are tolerating our customers.” 😬
“I hope I have amnesia!”😂
Josh Johnson is one of my favorite comedians. His dry humor transfers over to pod cast well.
I have NEVER been so strongly on Josh’s side.
Josh & Dulce - you're both SO fine & sharp-minded. Thank you for providing light, and great humor every week! I rely on ya'll's podcast as a regular highlight. Don't stop the grind!!
I love Target. I will pay the extra $1 for paper towels for service and cleanliness. I just don’t like when customers come into Target with that Walmart energy 😂
We always called it targe' because it was like a boutique compared to Walmart.
💯 I end up working like an employee when I go in Walmart. No thanks
@@IntuitivelyDriven Exactly! I’m forced to stock shelves because I’m picking stuff off the floor just to walk around.
@@Auguur calling it "Targé" gives it "cachet" 😆
Somebody wanted to argue with me about the prices, and the prices weren't that much different.
I've got a friend who has appeared on "People of WalMart" several times. That said, Target is cleaner, their employees are friendlier and more knowledgeable, they have REAL customer service, and I'm willing to pay the slightly higher prices because of that.
Walmart is recorded as purposely dropping their prices lower than the Mom and Pop's until they all close and then raises them once they have shut down all the competition. I witnessed it in a small town where I lived when Walmart moved in.
Same here. Destroyed a whole local economy and made people beggars for low-wage non-benefitted jobs for a corporate entity instead of employed by local small businesses.
And then came Amazon. Eventually someone will always have a better idea.
Josh is finally on the right side! 😂 Team Target all the way!!
You guys didn’t mention the ONLY reason I choose Target over Walmart: the employees are treated better. Not enormously better, but I’ve had friends and family work at Walmart and ever since I heard their stories it was a hard no. Walmart is dragging down our economy by making ALL of us pay for what their workers need to live, and I would have expected anyone on the Daily Show to at least mention that fact. I love you both, but you both disappointed me today. Team Target forever!
Our taxes support Walmart by paying for social programs for full time employees who need money for food.
Could you please elaborate on what "ALL of us" are paying for "their workers need to live"?
@@jedilikereflex our taxes go to paying for any food stamps or other public service needs of Walmart employees who aren't making enough money to pay their bills. This includes full time employees.
From what I find is that Wal-Mart and Target wages are very similar. Not totally sure but I believe in CA. the Wal-Mart fulfillment center pays more, not by much though. I'm sure there's a percentage of Target employees on some kind of government aid in order to make a living also. Due to Wal-Mart having a much larger count of employees it kind of makes sense for the percentage to lean more on Wal-Mart side. Not mention the cost of living in California is so high, its hard to make it with one job. All of that being said, I do believe Wal-Mart should pay their employees more, especially the cashiers.
@@jedilikereflex it’s a lot more than just the pay, it’s also the benefits, sexism lawsuits, and wage theft…
YASSSSSSSSS, JOSH! TEAM TARGET! 🎯🎯🎯🎯
I find this show so comforting as well as amusing.
I would love to see you debate sweaters vs sweatshirts
I was Team Walmart until I read the comment section. Thank you to all who shared about the disparity in pay and benefits and treatment of employees between the two companies. I still prefer the variety I can get at Walmart, but I won't go out of my way to go there like I do now. I guess I'm a Target girl now.🎉💁🏾♀
John oliver has a great report on target. Not as great as you think.
I understand. I don’t think any are great. Just saying Target seems like the better of the two options. Thanks for the video recommendation.
@@kenishabethea3226 Target leaves you feeling a little less bad I suppose. Most of the stuff from Wal-Mart and Target still comes from China in the end.
I might have to convert to target for that very reason. Walmart is closer and more convenient For me. Plus they have the groceries so I can kind of get all in one stop. But here’s my big question, how come Walmart still closes early? They used to stay open till midnight and many Walmarts here in South Florida were open 24 hours. When the pandemic hit all of the Walmarts decided to close early. Well now that Florida pretty much pretends Covid doesn’t exist and the pandemic is over, how come Walmart is still closing early?
@@HH-gv8mx I know I'm a year late, but money.
Before Super Walmart you had convenience stores (which are more expensive). If you're lucky you had a 24 hour grocery store. As Josh pointed out Walmart offers everything, and everything in variety. Other businesses close and all you're left with is Walmart.
The pandemic happened and people were laid off. Walmart's success was having everything you wanted in one place, and always being open. With the individual competing businesses closed, Walmart no longer needs to be the place that's open. You the consumer are now trained to rush to get to Walmart during its limited hours.
The consumer is trained to go to Walmart to one stop shop. Now the consumer is trained to rush to Walmart during its limited hours. Walmart is now free to fire and never rehire staff to cover more convenient hours because Walmart makes the same amount of money in less time.
A really long way to say fewer hours = employees. Fewer employees = higher profit.
These conversations are my antidote to the week's chaos. So grateful to you both 💖
I’m team Target, because with those higher prices, they pay their staff fair wages and provide them with benefits that the Walton family would NEVER.
Target was my second employer for YEARS!!! I just wanted the discount cause I’m a target addict. Lol! But, I was quite amazed at how well they treated us. They have a very healthy team culture. We knew about our products and how we strive to use brands that are environmentally sound or how we try our best to not use companies that use child labor or unfair trade practices. Target was also one of the first employer to provide employer based health insurance.
Same for all of the above reasons
Yeah I worked for them at a Starbucks for a little bit. They even let you cross train into the actual store and they pay a living wage more or less. Plus benefits and scheduled breaks they get in trouble for of they don't give you
This is the comment i was waiting for Josh to make. It seems as if he was starting to make this point a few times, but Dolcé was ready with yet another detour.
word up
I would watch Dulcie just to hear her laugh.... she has an awesome laugh- I love it!!!
Team Target ☺ The employees are treated better. I'll pay a little extra to support our fellow community members.
Sofa vs couch, purse vs pocketbook vs handbag, tennis shoes vs sneakers
Genuinely surprised by their choices. I was 100% convinced that Dulce would be a classy Target lady
Are you not listening to her language?
On what planet!?!
She is NOT classy,
AT ALL!
Classy?
Laughing all loud and wide mouth, with food in her mouth, like a country woman on the porch!
(Not metioning ethnicity, but COUNTRY!)
Been a Walmart boycotter since 1999, when we read In Sam We Trust: The Untold Story of Sam Walton and Wal-Mart, the World's Most Powerful Retailer, by Bob Ortega.
Walmart is post apocalyptic style shopping.
I have too much anxiety to be shopping at Walmart.
Lol, true. Target does have a slightly more spacious layout (women's clothing section excluded)
Just navigating the parking lot takes me 2 valiums.
Thank you both for your work! Some ideas: Hot Cheetos vs Takis, Meeting People in Person vs Apps (romantically and platonically), cable vs streaming, In and Out vs Whataburger
I didn’t know Johnson was a Daily Show writer, so many great comedians work on that show
I think that's how they met
I'm happy Josh got an easy win lol I get my hair gel at Target and specific groceries like white whole wheat flour.
And, I dieddd at "thank goodness you're here" lol 32:22
Yesss.. Josh Johnson is the kind of strategist that I totally #respect .. when he said "thank goodness you're here!" to a person suspecting him of stealing.. is just an ingenious level of showing someone how wrong they can be abt someone they don't know. Ingenious. He did it without shooing them away.. creating an impression few would dismiss. Very creative. However, Dulcé's laugh is so unique, fun & contagious. These two R gold. I truly ❤❤❤ this show. Keep 'em coming.✌🏾💜
Californian here. My local Walmart is a pit. Been to some nice Walmarts in the South and the Midwest. Mine is depressing and only used as a last resort. Never been in a depressing Target. My Walmart is like that one friend who is drama… you tolerate them but you don’t wanna hang out with them.
There's a depressing Target in Mountain View, CA--and it's across the street from a Walmart. I think the building used to be a Kmart.
47 mins of Target vs Walmart. I love it 😂
Team target here ❤ walmart gives me anxiety 😬.
Love you both. Gotta say, no Walmart for us though. We don't wanna buy underwear and towels in the same store that sells guns and ammo. Plus, as others have said - Target has much better labor practices. Super low prices often mean the employees are treated poorly.
Hey Josh, no worries we all have to start somewhere! I’m a target man too now. I graduated from Walmart. It was like a spiritual awakening!
Amen!!
Spring water versus water from out the Spicket. I would love to hear y’all converse about that. Thank you.
The Target app is awesome! If you scan an item and there's a discount, the discount is automatically added to your app wallet. You can also price match to Target online using the app, and the online price will be honored.
I've never used the Target app because I've only been to Target like once and that was in 2007. Very interesting
TEAM TARGET. There was a Target in my neighborhood long before they ever opened a Walmart in our area. We had to go to the suburbs to go to Walmart. And back in the 70s Target and KMart had grocery stores. But the grocery store was completely separated from the department store because department stores couldn't open on Sundays.
Target is superior because they don’t lock up everything, their clothes are better quality, the medicine aisle is stocked, the beauty section is better, the toy section is more organized, the clerks are nicer, and that’s just off the top of my head.
The target here locks up soap and deodorant
My Target locks up everything the Walmart down the street locks up. 😂 Have to go find an employee to get that $5 movie.
The medicine aisle is stocked 🤣
Never thought about it, but you're right - WM has half the medications missing at all times.
Walmart didn’t make it in Germany. We didn’t like the experience and they didn’t like our laws. So I guess one country is on Josh’s side🤗
👍
Well, you also have unions over there. We get cheated in the U.S.
@@IloveswedesThat’s right. It didn’t sit well with the unions or the potential customers, that Walmart didn’t want to collaborate with the unions.
Thing is, with a lot of items, if you buy better quality which usually costs more (not always) you save in the long run because it will last longer. For food, I find that I save more at my regular grocery than Walmart - they are deceptively more expensive.
Not only that but Target sells their kid’s clothing line with a one year warranty, so if they tear or have any issues within that one year they will refund you your money. So now I buy my boy’s bulk clothing from Target. And, I usually only buy when they are on sale, but what’s the point of a sale if the clothing falls apart in a month. So much better to buy from Target in my opinion.
Team Target all the way! I still feel okay with myself after walking out of there having spent $150 when going for $25 worth of merchandise.
You both made me laugh out loud listening to this!! Such a debate... but I am here for team Target. Will listen to more soon!
I need a playlist of just this show so I can make sure I didn't miss an episode
There's a playlist. Just put hold up with dulce.
@@violaj9538 :O thank you for making my day I couldn't find it
I subscribe to the podcast and only ever go to the youtube video to read what viewers have to say about the episode.
Target was not "known" for putting small businesses out of business. Target became an anchor store in a mall. WalMart would move into a community shutting 10-20 Mom & Pop stores! On the West Coast there were 1,000's of petitions against WalMart moving into the communities.
It makes me wonder if this may have been a North/South or East/West argument, creating even more billions for that insane family.
I don't think the growth happened until Daddy Sam passed away. Sam's venture was Sam's club trying to take on Costco here in the PNW It failed miserably because AGAIN, how the employees ARE TREATED!!!
Either get yourself in a UNION or work for an entity that knows your WORTH!!
UNIONIZE WALMART NOW!!!
AND STARBUCKS!!!
Dulce and Josh, you both are in unions, yes?
Dulce is right about the city Target. When I moved to the city, I’m always shocked at the lack of stuff they have. Like they don’t restock the shelves regularly? When I go to my parents’ Target in the suburbs, it’s nicer and had more stuff. Still Team Target, but city Target is like Target’s flaky cousin.
🎉😂❤”Winnie the Pooh is the reason I have the courage !!! “🎉🎉🎉
Target for sure. In addition to everything the others have said, the Walton family bought my favorite football team the Denver Broncos this year, and we've played worse than ever! Yes there's multiple reasons for playing poorly, but I'm just putting it out there that being owned by Walmart may not be helping.
The Walton Family are 7 of the wealthiest people in the 🌎 world.
And 80% of their employees are on government assistance.
Let's talk about corporate welfare!! Target at least pays the employees fare wages!!
Would you be helpful if you are barely making it working 60 hours a week?
Took the words right out of my mouth! I boycott Walmart.
I was team target even before I started working there. Walmart may save you pennies but the experience there is trash. Target offers a whole rich auntie/uncle vibe. I want to shop in pleasure not in chaos 💪🏽 🎯 🎯
Team Target all the way. They treat employees with respect and pay them well. They genuinely care about their customers. Target also put in the effort to be inclusive. Yes, they have a lot of work to do, but I have never once seen Walmart even try.
I don't like the ceiling height or the floors in Walmart, target isn't fancy it just doesn’t overwhelm me as a physical building
It's just as well that Walmart has a higher ceiling because it puts more space between you and that bird that got trapped in there because it flew in from the lawn and garden section!
I love target's 2 hr pickup, you just drive up and don't even need to enter the store
And Target doesn't fill your order with broken junk like Walmart does. Got lightbulbs there with store pickup during the pandemic and they were all clearly customer returns where they swapped burned out bulbs with fresh ones and returned them.
I worked at Walmart...I'm team Target but I can't afford to shop at Target so I'm dragged to Walmart.
Went ahead and liked the vid before even watching because I’ve been waiting for this. 🙌🏽
“Target ends up being better because Walmart is too busy being chaotic”
So grateful to you both 🤣🤣
One thing that turned me off Walmart when I moved to Oregon. I notice that certain stores will carry a product and the other will not, even though they all are in the same vicinity.
Target. Yes, the store layout is hyper psychological to where you’ll pick up unnecessary items but at least when I get a chance to use the restroom I won’t happenstance on someone pleasuring themself with a pack of frozen corn dogs in the stall next to me. Target.
Ewwww.
😨😨
Hahahaha
Target all day!
I was weak when his tone went Color Purple Sofia.😂
Target had the commercials in early 2000s that were amazing. Target Dog! They had Earth, Wind, and Fire Christmas. I worked at Target and would have been there happily forever until they did me wrong. I still like their lighting better, and the feel of the store and layout better. That said, it doesn't have to be an either/or. I think that they each have their place where they can both exist. Nothing beats a 42oz Coke and fried chicken gizzards at 3am, browsing a Walmart in Summer
Yeah, even when I worked for Target part-time and got additional 5% discount was not enough to make me shop there on the regular.
But I bet you weren’t forced to get on welfare because you were paid so little. That you got any discount as a part-time employee is notable.
Would love to hear your takes on Driver vs Passanger OR Shotgun vs Backseat
you had me at, "it's a joint, that bends."
Dulce Sloan is so nice to listen to. 😍
I would love you guys to have a conversation about ocean vs pool.
Team Target. Walmart is messy, disorganized, chaos. The aisles often don't make sense. The store layout is completely different without any rhyme or reason. The people who frequent it have no respect for themselves, no respect for each other, no respect for the store or it's products. They don't put things back. I have never worried about finding someone taking a dump in the middle of an aisle at Target. I have seen someone do this at a Walmart. I don't care about the price point. I care that I'm not liable to get shanked at a target at 2 in the afternoon. The people of Walmart thing is real. Plus half the time I go to Walmart they don't have what I am looking for. It's happened repeatedly. Buy something online. Go to Walmart to pick it up? Nobody knows where it is. Walmart is a waste of my time and energy.
Target all the way!
Going through Walmart is a GRIND
Team Target for my sanity.
Walmart for entertainment! 😂🤣😂
Team Target 🎉🎉🎉🎉
I sort of reject the premise that Wal-Mart has lower prices for comparable products. On some things, sure, but not consistently in my experience
When my son was a teenager, he and I would go to Walmart late on a weekend night and people watch. It was fun!
On Wally World: I remember reading that they tell employees to bring back pens and stuff from hotels that they visit- to use at their job at Walmart!! That level of bull is amazing... (If I take that pen I'm using it myself not supplementing the offuce supplies of a giant corporation!)
I can tell you that info is wrong
Josh, spoke like a true escaped Louisianian 😬
Team Target. I can’t handle seeing infants drinking koolaid out of a bottle which is a common Walmart experience.
I'm soooo utilizing the next suspicious sales associates time for petty's sake
Me too. That is genius.
I would love to see Dulce as the next host of The Daily Show. 🧡
Team TARGET all the way... Also... Target should hire Josh AND Wally World should hire Dulce... Even though Wally World is awful. And, Dulce you're young, so as an Old, I gotta tell you... We've been calling it "Tarjjjjay" since the 80s... LOL! Love You Two!
Yeah, "Tarzhay" has been ironic since I was in college in the 80s.
My only two issues with Target: more expensive (sometimes more than 20% above other stores) and their grocery selection. I have a limited time to shop for groceries and no time to be going to 2 stores just because Target doesn’t carry more than two brands of bread.
I love shopping Target for toys and holidays. They don’t have the biggest toy selection, but at least stuff is in the right place so you know the prices.
Target is the Chik Fil A of the retail world.
But they're open on Sundays!
Dulce girl- What are you using on your skin?? It is friggin GORGEOUS.
Showing my age, but I'm pretty sure that when I was little I thought of target as a toy store in Michigan and Colorado.
I was pretty young then.
"Target don't sell insurance." 😂😂😂
Where I grew up in the North Target had always been here Walmart was new. It took the place of Super Kmart. Target wasn't destroying mom and pop stores. But Walmart has destroyed mom and pop and doesn't treat the employees or customer with any respect. Love Target.
If I have to go to one, it would be Walmart just for the cheaper price. But how did the guy defending Target NOT mention Walmart’s biggest downfall?? The 1 register that is open with dozens of employees standing around doing nothing that could be ringing up customers.
I worked for kmart before too, and I can tell you they went out of. Isiness because of lack of security, my store along was pushing millions of lost, damaged, and stolen mech a year. People used to come in and and walk out with buggies full of tvs, and car stereos and employees were instructed to not intervene
You both are hilarious and I’m ashamed that I didn’t know you did Hold Up. Josh, you are my new fav comedian and now I am adding Dulce to my list. This made my day!!!
I'm team Target. I don't like walking into a Walmart store. The items I need from Walmart I order via Instacart.
Team Target all day. I've never seen a dead deer being pushed around in a shopping cart down the aisle or a baby goat with fleas screaming in the parking lot at Target. Walmart provides an extra flavor of sketchy
It’s the shopping experience
She is making his point when it comes to Customer Service and Walmart employees are not helpful.
Josh is correct, Target all the way!
I live in NYC which has no Walmart's. I love Walmart and prefer to go after hours but since covid theres no Walmart's near me that opens 24 hours. And Walmart online has everything! On the other hand I love Targets because there local and I like the mens section Goodfellow and Co... and there food section.(when the have the foods that I'm looking for in stock).
"Winnie the Pooh is the reason I have the courage" 😂😂😂😂😂😂 best Dulcé quote
Team Target. Won't walk into a Walmart (or Sam's Club) because of their awful labor practices.
I’m just here for Josh’s newfound glow. Is it the superior argument (despite completely ignoring the major ethical aspect)? The lighting? A new moisturizer? Lol ✨
I will chose a mom and pop store over a Target or a Walmart anyday
Dulce let Josh finish a sentence lol.
7 minutes in and I can tell bro has her beat, but ain't no way he's going to get enough 🎤 time. She gotta listen if she gonna talk. Got to listen if someone politely listens to you!
