SMH... these people calling them fake or saying they get to eat once a month. Ya'll are so blind to the world it's hilarious.
For 1, they are the most real artists you will ever meet, they not only are open about exactly what they do on every track, but they don't try to hide anything like western artists. You will never see a kpop artist get popped because they didn't write a song or were dishonest in anyway, because they are proud that they work a job and are part of a company with talented writers, composers, producers, choreographers, etc. That's why it's a big deal when they do take credit for writing and composing a song because you know it's legit.
For 2, Most of these groups are literally making reality shows or doing fan cams almost every day and you can easily see how they live their lives. They eat like crazy and work non-stop, not because they are caged, but because they were picked out of thousands (literally) of trainees for their discipline and talent to be the best. They are self-driven and they know that they are making money now for the rest of their lives.

I mean Twice and Somi are treated pretty well, and in comparison to most other idols have quite a bit of freedom.
Maybe as recently as a few years ago, but I think you'll find it's quite a different scene these days.
