Hi Pete thanks for the shout out ..I actually tought their was something worng with the TV 😂🇮🇪 ...long story short last year was the year I found river kings...I was an avid mountain biker for over 10 years and I had a big accident last summer broken back shoulder and wrist I sat for 3 months in a body brace when I stumbled across river king's I bought my first boat last November (mamba)and it has truly changed my life for the better.. you helped me with your videos when I needed something the most ..so shout out to you Pete and your videos truly helping people.....and maby we might shred some water together someday......ps thinking of buying a project x soon so a video on the playboat would be cool🙂🙂
As always, you make the best instructual whitewater kayaking videos i have ever come across!! Thanks for posting and thanks for teaching! I know you have made them before.. but would love to see rolling instructions again. Especially with these guys that have not yet mastered it.
Dude I love your videos. I have a request for a video as someone new to the sport. Can you do a video purely on strokes. A quick how to do each stroke then in what river conditions would you use them and when you wouldn't use them. All the different draws, rudders, sweeps, compound strokes, etc etc. Theres a lot of stuff on youtube on how to do strokes but not much applying it all to a dynamic river situation.
Catching every eddy helps timing, boat control, and confidence. However, teaching and using the "duffek" stroke really helps catch eddys high and not drift thru them. Many self taught kayakers have never heart of it, and you can watch them "drag" into an eddy, and if they are going fast, they may drift thru the eddy to the other side. The "duffek" stops you in the eddy quickly with precision and improves your control of the kayak.
Another good video Pete! Wish I could have been part of the live stream, but my daughter thinks figure skating is more important. I will catch next weeks. Have a good week.
I try to tell people practice the eddy turn. I was once in a eddy it pulled me upstream and even beached my kayak. Had a little surf action with low sand bank. Lots of fun too.
Well done, no one will convice me that the Zen 2 isn't the best begginer boat out there. I have tried the Remix and dagger... the zen is just so forgiving and playful for beginners.
I have a Zen 2 and learned to whitewater kayak in it. It's edges can be unforgiving at times. (The picture is me in my Zen 2 going through Lower Kenney, New River Gorge.)
Hi pete, As new kayakers from wales " uk" I'm enjoying your skill builder videos, great job mate, out of interest do you know what year/ model that WRSI helmet recall was for " as I have one myself". Keep up the great vids.
I'm enjoying your skill videos too. I normally have my boat stored until it warms up. What moderately priced gear gear do you recommend for boating in cold weather? I'm in Alabama so not crazy cold. Do you use any insulation under your legs to keep them warm? Thanks. I think a good video is what to do if you get hung on a rock or get hung up sideways on a shallow drop.
It was def an edgy creeker that surfs verg well. Snapping into micro eddies ir really easy. Like edgy creekers are, it holds a line well. I am a displacement guy so my take is biased. Lol. I felt like I sat high and my knees were low. However, this was a small. Perhaps a med would have felt better on me. All said, I would much prefer the remix.
J stroke in a kayak when catching eddies? J stroke like when in a canoe when trying to go straight? Im not sure exactly how to answer as we may be using different terms. Sometimes you plant the inside turn paddle towards the bow of the kayak to pivot quickly, sometimes you plant it further towards the stern to carve a straighter path into the eddy. If that is what you mean, I do those strokes when needed.
I think you will love it! When going from long boat to ww boat, things happen much faster. That is the freedom you will grow to love. You can literally go anywhere at the flick of a wrist. Learning to harness that will be the biggest difference I think you will find. Be aggressive and have fun!
Yesterday I got to surf in a slicey boat for the first time. The guide said he was surprised I didn't end up going for a swim. He put me in a dagger kingpin which is a big difference from a Greenland sea kayak. Surprisingly I really really enjoyed it and can't wait to get back out. Right now where we're at in Ohio our rivers are blown out and it's probably wise I wait to the levels come down a little bit before I try anything bigger. Thank you for your videos they have been an extreme help.
Really helpful with the onscreen diagrams and slow motion. I hadn’t ever seen the proper timing of the downstream stroke before so THANKS
Thanks Fayley!
That’s a pretty boat Jer was in. I love how excited you get for paddlers when they nail a move.
Thanks Thomas!

Thats awesome!! Glad to have played a part in the recovery! Would love to paddle a river with you sometime!!
Great idea on the project x!
Another great video Pete keep them coming 👍 I’ve been learning so much this past year thanks 🙏 Jim coull (Inverurie, Scotland) 🏴 woop woop
Scotland in the house! Thanks James!

Thanks a ton DO! That means a lot! Good idea!
There'll be plenty of me swimming this year....

Thats a fantastic idea Josh! Thanks!
Another well done, informative video. Thanks and keep it up. You guys are all appreciated.
Thanks Daniel!
We so wanna get out there and try that stuff! It’s so helpful watching this “class” progress.
Let's make it happen Dan!!
@@RiverKingsKayak we’re still waiting for dry suits. ;). After that.
Nice one! Enjoying these skill-builders. I'd love to see some videos on similar concepts, but for longer boats (e.g. your Prijon).
Good idea Leadeye!
Good information! Kind of like skidding out on a bicycle!
Thanks Chris!

For sure Solo. I need to do a vid on it.
Looking forward to more adventure videos!
On the way Govan!!

Thanks Shorty! See u there!

Great video
Thanks saltw1!
Love your videos Pete they’ve helped me greatly. Just curious as to which boat are you paddling in this one? Is it a Burn or Everest? Thanks Pete.
Thanks David! That is a Liquidlogic Remix 69.

Right on Daniel! Nrs crux drysuit should work for you. Great ideas!
These instructional videos are great! Is this a class you teach or a club you are in?
Thanks Matt! Neither really...just an informal group of friends that paddle together as often as possible.
Nice looking Shiva, what is your take on it, especially vs Remix

Do y’all ever go down to the White Water Center in Charlotte
We used to live there all summer back years back when it wasn't raining so much. We plan to go this year.
I keep trying but just can't seem to hit "like" enough!! 😄
Thanks a ton Brother!!!
Hey Pete, just curious, whats your reasoning for not using a j stroke when you go into an eddy?
J stroke in a kayak when catching eddies? J stroke like when in a canoe when trying to go straight? Im not sure exactly how to answer as we may be using different terms. Sometimes you plant the inside turn paddle towards the bow of the kayak to pivot quickly, sometimes you plant it further towards the stern to carve a straighter path into the eddy. Getting ready to crossover from sea kayak to whitewater. What are some tips?

these guys are too polite or they're scared of hitting your boat when they come into an eddie
I tell them that all the time.. Rubbing is racing!! A lot of newer paddlers are timid about boat contact. That all goes away with time.
If u ain't first, you're last.
