This is probs the only time I'm going to watch a Joel Mugen stream, as I know the person making this, being a member of the bootleg games community. I've also tested characters for them in the distant past- specifically Mario and Urban Champion. This really is a top-notch effort, and I'm eagerly anticipating what else they add to it in the future.

That being said, though, there are actually some really high quality bootleg games. You just have to sift through all the shit ones to find them.
If Joel is doing that fighting Event on Saturday it should be called "Super Smash Saturday" Or "Saturday Night/Morning Slamdown With Papa Joel" (Papa Joel is optional)
I like how M.U.G.E.N. is actually a game engine. It was showcased in the style of a fighting-game, to show of its coding friendliness.
You can make any number of games, from Metal Slug like games, to platformers.

They couldn't just leave out the Ice Climbers on the 3DS version and let them in on the Wii U version. It was made pretty clear that the roster on both versions had to be the same.
Mr. Porkchop remember when nintemdo said BOTH versions would have their own exclusive characters? Toon link was only on 3ds as well as wii fit trainer but then they got stupid and changed it to all versions having the same characters.

jimworld7070 if you check the earliest gameinformer article on the game there is a section talking about the exclusive characters for the versions. They even gave examples like toon link and wii fit trainer and duck hunt being exclusive. They never brought up the wii u version's exclusive characters. They must have changed their minds some time after that came out.
that makes absolutely no sense, since from the very beginning the two games were meant to interact in some way

plus, sakurai worked mainly on the wii u version, showing the 3ds team what to port over and making sure everything stays consistent between the two versions

Helpers are obviously part of the chars, but i sure didn't expect a move display or movelist.
On that I'm totally clueless, and it's cool as hell. Kudos on that, hope this gets the recognition it deserves

I was expecting Ninten to be playable since Mother is on Famicom.
I can imagine the devs might have wanted to save up character slots for dudes that aren't already in Smash, which would also explain the absence of someone as basic as Link as fully playable in a Famicom-themed fighting game.
Would he play any differently to Ness though? Could either even be considered a character? You can argue that with Lucas, but not with Ninten or Ness *that* much.
Well yeah. Ninten and Ness both have incredibly different types of PSI attacks. Whereas Ness has a bit of a neutral ground with some healing moves and some attacks like PSI Lifeup, flash, or his signature move that can be named by the player (the normal name is just PSI Rockin). PSI Fire or thunder were not in his move set though. Don't know why he has them in Smash when there was plenty of other things to pick.
Ninten is much more of a physical fighter, with no offensive PSI whatsoever. He does have access to moves such as Healing, Magnet, Hypnosis and Shield though. But clearly Sakurai has shown that not using moves strictly from a characters moveset in their game isn't an issue.
That's a dynamic though that I'd argue Ness and Lucas perform in Smash already, although at this stage, that's just straying from the point I was originally trying to make. I'm not gonna split hairs over this, because quite frankly, I don't even have enough experience in Mother to stand on in an argument, so I'll take your word for it. All I'm saying is that the Mother games are already represented in Smash Brothers, one of the most massive crossover fighting game franchises on the market, so I appreciate how Famicom Fighters makes alot of it's roster up from fighters that have a chance somewhere between a 1/1.000.000 and none whatsoever to get into any games anymore, let alone Smash.

Also having Thonolan there its really fucking sweet man, i used to play Kickmaster a lot as a kid and i still do its a balls to the wall hard game and i always ragequit on every unfair death you got with that game, but damn that its quite fun and very badass for all the cool moves you can pull off and the fact it has this RPG factor where the more items you get the more XP you have and more moves you an unlock its by far one of the coolest things i ever saw in a game, aside from Final Fight on the NES of course.

All of Thonolan’s Supers are the same as Mario’s!
It's a display error that Thonolan's movelist is showing Mario's supers because the attempts to pull off supers with him clearly show that Thonolan doesn't have the same supers as Mario. Hopefully, they've fixed this already.

(If not all) use the original sprites, therefor don't fit. Y'know, different perspectives
