In the Mediterranean during classical Antiquity the amphora was the standardised means of transport very much like the shipping container is today. It was perfectly suited for the basic means of loading and unloading ships at the time, which was by hand.

Great video , deserves more views. Don’t stop making niche videos though a lot of channels don’t go into detail on seemingly small things like this

Amphorae also had another advantage: their shape helped keep their contents cool without refrigeration, preserving the contents.

I was thinking of that terms of the material being know for cooling, and hoping to find evidence the shape too, but can’t find any evidence of the shape helping - anything you can refer me to on the subject about shape and cooling? I also was thinking if something drips from flat surface stacked items it traps between, whereas with pointed items any moisture will quickly wick downwards and away off the actual item.

If you imagine or look up a thermal image of a lake with a oval bottom (like a common pot) compared to a thermal image of a lake with same amount of water but with an obtuse U shape bottom and then take in that the walls of those hypothetical lakes are also likely made of a form of clay same as the pots you’ll be able to see why it helps Along with like the video said you can stick them in the ground with a simple hole making easy work of natural helping them cool when not in a ship or wagon/cart ect.

i think they were designed to be carried be 1 man only, considering the shape of the handles and the most easy/ergonomic way to carry this amphora (it is neither practical nor efficient to carry it by 2 people) on the shoulder with the neck towards the face and both hands clasping the amphora. would explain the elongated handles and curved slim neck...the amphora would be tilted almost upside down i believe. Try carrying havy loads, easiest and most healthy for the back is on the shoulder, both shoulders or on the head, also the notion that it would weigh around 25 kilos makes sense, which is the maximum load a person is allowed to carry today on a workfloor, bags of cement and garden earth weigh maximum 25 kilos......maybe there were leather straps involved for carrying

You forget a big thing... trade, the thing it was mainly produced for, made them huge. 50 to 60 litres. And most of the home amphora was also big huge things that was the homes main refrigerator, of grain and water. 10 to 20 litre ones was not unusual but those was not for trade or for storage but for everyday use, like farmers having a pot of cool water ready available (and that meant they were two that carried it!)
