I knew this old man growing up that had a sickle mower and when he went to go mow his fields, he'd be out firing off a shotgun or a handgun all over the place and we all thought something was off with him, turns out, he loved animals and didn't want to hit sleeping deer or coyotes and made loud noises to wake them up and get them out of the field before he mowed. I think you may need to adjust your deflector board to lay the grass in towards the sickle bar a little more. That will help with the grass getting balled up on the inside.
