    I bought a new 1968 Triumph Daytona from Skip Van Leeuwen @ Hollywood Triumph. It Had the European bars, and was grey like the one carb version. This was the best bike I have ever owned, period. All my friends had Bonerville's in those days, but could not keep up with me and my 41 hp 500 when racing through the twisties of Orange County. We lost Skip #59, in 2017, R.I.P. He was the best TT racer in history I do believe. Of the 25 or so bikes I have had since that original Gem, only two stood up to the standards set by the Daytona. They were a 72 CB450 Honda, and a '72 BMW R50/5. However, neither of them handled as well as theTriumph.

    1970 pulled up to the light at Ventura Blvd and Van Nuys on my '67 Daytona. Pickup truck stopped next to me in the left turn lane and McQueen was in the passenger seat. He checked out my bike and gave me a nod of approval. Boom the light changed and that was that.

    In 1962, my dad had a brand new, single carb 500. It was the first bike I ever drove. I was nine.

    Triumph twins gained popularity from their introduction in 1937. It was their fetching looks and reviews that gained them such a following. They had that stylish, lean and clean cut image,👌 but the speed was always ahead of the handling. The sprung rear hubs of the late 1940s didn't really soften the ride much, but they were another step in the transition to a rear swing arm set up.

      The oil in frame bikes were far better handling, and the b50 frame tr5t was fantastic!

    a motorcycle that looks like a motorcycle should look, ....at least in my opinion. beautiful up to this day, and they came with a full lifetime head-turner guarantee.

    I had a 1967 Daytona and it was a beautiful ride. Enjoyed it in the early 70s

    "Ringerman...Hey Ringerman". Surprised there isn't any literature associated with the Movie....'Coogan's Bluff'!!! Don Stroud rode a 67' T100R in the Motorcycle chase scene, with Clint Eastwood on a 1967 TR6. Damn Good Movie & this is a beautiful Daytona.

    Beautiful machine and what a sound it makes. My favourite of the Triumph range.
    I'd like to know what the blue paint colour is called if anyone knows.
    Thank you for the upload Ken.

    Always interesting, I see quite a few different things on the U.S. model Triumph bikes compared with those sold in Britain . Great video

    I had a 5TA back in the late 70's, it was a very smooth runner but not enough power for my liking, I got myself a 750 Commando instead and that was fast enough, thanks for posting a video of this great sounding and looking Triumph

    My next project is a 1972 TR6R TIGER, picked it up with a basket case 68 Tiger, for 250.00, the Tiger is box stock all the way from a Lucas tail light lens to an immaculate set of Smith gauges and Champion spark plug leads! Can you tell me the name of the color on the tank in the video please? I know it's not period correct but I'd like to do one with that color as a second tank for my 500.

      I think it is Kingfisher Blue. Your 1968 T100S is Aquamarine Blue, which I think is the more beautiful colour. I would think this, though. I am now 50 and owned my 68’ Tiger 100S since I was 19.

      @@zacetto 66 in a couple weeks, got my 70' Daytona in 81' as a rat chopper not worth the 100.00 I paid for it, but was fortunate enough to get almost all of the parts by trading OEM parts off of the shelf to a small shop owner, yes, he was glad to meet me, my friends owned a Honda shop that had just merged with a Suz/Tri dealership and for doing the inventory of Triumph parts they gave me a washing machine box full of parts I'd been putting in there for a few months, anything that looked like it fit my 500 went into the box, including three new OIF fuel tanks! I wish I knew then what I know now as I own a1972 650 Tiger I'm turning into a street tracker but using a 68' frame & a sweet 74' T140V. I wish I still had those kind of connection's! My channel has a short video of my Daytona if your interested, nothing special but I do get a lot of thumbs up, that's half the fun of it, I started building it in 1981when I was about 23 I think.

    No one ever talks about the handling problems. Triumph frames used to flex when going over bumps at high speed causing them to wobble. The later duplex frames solved this problem.

    • @dustinfocke8868
      @dustinfocke8868 2 роки тому +1

      The duplex frames were short lived though. ‘60-‘62 I believe then back to the single down tube.
