Hi JazzMentlists - please don't forget to hit the 'LIKE BUTTON' and "SUBSCRIBE'! These are important to people like me who create content for UA-cam. Why? Because when you do hit the like button, subscribe or leave a comment, these are all good indicators to the UA-cam algo - which helps a channel be found in UA-cam Search and Recommended videos. Without these, a channel doesn't grow and it's hard for a content creator to keep going. So please keep giving your 15 seconds to content creators you do like and wish to support. Leave a comment, suggestion or just some love! Thank you! - With gratitude, Paul
I noticed same thing. The sheet music doesn't show the key signature at the start of the line and he plays an E natural at 6:55 instead of the expected E flat.
I watched this and enjoyed your very thorough explanation of BH rules (Thanks). Then the arpeggio one, also good. My only question is what about the obvious idea where you play a iim7 arpeggio with this being the "V" of a 2-5? That's what I'm looking at now. Or did I just miss a different video?
It’s really more about ending the phrase on a chord tone and more specifically by adding a chromatic note between 1 and b7 when starting from chord tones you will always arrive at the root of the chord on a downbeat. For your example if you start on the F and continue down (with no added 1/2 steps) you will arrive at C on a downbeat (F4 down to C3)
Sorry - I said from F, you said from A but the same applies. A4 to either G3 or C3 with no added 1/2 steps lands you on the beat. Alternatively adding a 1/2 step between 2 and 1 and 1 and b7 also lands you on chord tones at the end of phrases.
Paul, I thought this was useful, but I don't understand where the follow-up on arpeggios is. You put a link in this part of the video ua-cam.com/video/XWDXKBtS9gU/v-deo.html, but it takes you to a video that is all about chords based on the Barry Harris diminished 6th scale. I confess that I haven't watched it all the way through, but it seems like the wrong video?

sounds like real jazz - can't wait to try your exercises on the keyboard - thanks Paul!
Wish I'd known this little trick 50 years ago. This really explains a lot of how to get that Bebop feel. Going to go try it out.
Right on! Let me know how it works out for you Steve.
This is such a nice beneficial lesson! Helps me out a lot to naturally land on the scale tones
This is good to hear! Thanks for the feedback ☺️
Good stuff here, thank you. I think you might have thought of C dominant at 6:54 - 7:00 in your right hand.

Quality lesson as per usual, great work Paul.
Thanks Ike. I appreciate you taking time to stroll my channel today and drop comments 🙏. This really helps the channel. I'm grateful 🙌
@@Jazzmentl you are so welcome

Why are these rules only for descending lines? They also seem to work for ascending ones
😅😅😅 love you much
Thank-you @Humblemai!
With the mixo/C7 descending scale, starting on the 6th A. Surely that puts F on the beat?

Hey thanks for asking. I produced it and I'm editing it. The link will be up shortly. The one that's up there is just a placeholder for a few days.
I thought that was the case, too, so thanks for taking care of this, Paul!
