I just picked up a *2010 Ford Explorer 4x4 XLT V8* and the very first modification I did was install a Flowmaster cat-back exhaust with a large chrome tip just behind the driver side tire.
The 4.6L 07-10 Sport Trac appear to be gaining in value even with high mileage. They will be a collectors car one day as it's pretty much a unicorn given today's SUV/Non-V8 BS they make now a days.
@@texasbradley I have noticed that aswell, paid 8,000 for my 07 V8 Sport Trac in june 2019 with only 89k miles. Now I've noticed that V6 models with over 130k miles are selling for 12k and v8 models with less than 100k miles are over 16k 😱
The 2010 wast the last real Explorer...After that.. No v8,the v6 is crosswise on the passenger car chassis, front wheel drive when the 4x4 is off omg.. Just a little bit lifted passenger car.
Agreed, plus I'd rather get the comfort of the ride with a chassis than the car handling of the new one. When I change mine, I'll probably go for an Expedition for the same reason.
@@Ragingxplorer92 The 2.3 4 cylinder offered in the new rwd explorers only makes 8 more horse power than this model with the V8. The Ecoboost is only offered in AWD models. At least with the 4.6 v8 you know it'll be reliable. The Ecoboost has its timing chain issues and the other v6s have numerous water pump issues.
I'm pretty sure it was an intake for a 2008 model, but it fit nearly perfectly. Did you read the article? The link to it is in the description, and we have articles on some other mods on this Ex as well. We also have much more planned for it in the future.
So these results are quite interesting, I have a 2007 Sporttrac V8 (same engine and trans as in this video) stock it was doing 0-60 in 8.2 sec at best. I got a custom 87 oct tune only and it now runs 0-60 in 6.9 sec. I also have a custom 93oct tune and it feels faster, especially on the topend but haven't timed it yet.
I just bought this exact model in limited trim. exhaust manifold broken stud, leaks - ARE THERE ANY AFTERMARKET HEADERS FOR THE 4.6 FOR 2009? CANNOT FIND ANYWHERE!!! not actually caring about the performance boost, just the stock oem manifold will cause the studs to keep snapping and making leaks...
I also have a 2009 explorer V8. I was looking for a K&N intake but noticed they don't make for my year. Did you just order a 2008 model year K&N and install? Just wanted some input before i throw down $300. Very nice truck, will probably do similar mods.
Any data on the '09 Explorer 4.0 SOHC, looking for mileage gains, the 15mpg of the stock 4.0 SOHC is less than the '99 4.0 OHV that I traded for the '09. Been trying to get some information from several sites for two months now, hope someone can help!
Yeah my 02 goes 0-60 in 6.6 with these same mods lol according to my tuner also a mountaineer but that makes no difference maybe 10-20 pounds of that cause of the different body panels
Maybe it's the elevation, my 07 Sporttrac bone stock does 0-60 in 7sec and now with a custom 87oct tune it's best is 6.6sec. I'll try the 93 oct tune later 😀
All the runs were made with brakes applied and the throttle planted. Check out the thread linked in the description for all the details and full results:
Not worth the time and money on performance explorer upgrades. Just not meant to be to make these fast and designed only as a passender family vehicle.
Actually, it makes perfect sense. Just replacing that air filter will give him better MPG/HP. The Explorer's exhaust tend to become as rusty as the silencer you saw removed there, so it makes sense to at least replace the tip with a chromed one. Good tires and shocks will give you a better ride depending on your primary use for the car, even if it just for driving family around. When people get into my car even after the trying the new 4Runners (although Toyota isn't known for their comfortable ride), they feel like they are riding a Lincoln or something.
No, my 2007 4.6 Sporttrac does it in 7sec, only mod is a 87oct tune. For some reason this truck seems a bit slower. The 01 5.4 made 230hp stock, the 4.6 in these trucks/suv made 292hp stock

I have a v8 explorer similar to this and it feels a lot quicker than 9 sec to 60. that's 4.0 v6 numbers. I'm guessing a bad launch or wheel spin. The new explorers are sweet too specially with that sweet 3.5 ecoboost
no that was 8 seconds don't know how you got 9.5. this is a real suv designed for off road and towing not the crossover car based fake suv shit yours is.
This makes me feel good about my 2010 ford expedition 5.4l with a diy intake and edge tuner canned tuned only. 0-60 in 7.49 lol not bad for a big boat
Just installed a k&n on my 2014 explorer and its the best mod I have ever done. But damn, I miss these old explorers with the V8.
This particular one got a supercharger later in life.

0-60 in 10 seconds. That's worse than the stock version. Did you tune it down?
Must be high elevation because it says the explorer stock this year did 6.8 0to 60 1/4 in 15.3 unless that was done on the 2wd witch is a lot lighter
