Awesome idea 💡 👏
More excellent work by the metalshaper...
Thanks for being a continued supporter of my channel and thank you for the comment.
Ive done them like this before, I still prefer doing them in the lathe with a ceramic insert. Saves a lot of handle cranking time.
I have never done one in a lathe, how do they come out?? I am sure it would be faster but not sure of the quality of cut. Would love to see a finished one.
how type of coolant use for machinnig cast metal?
Cool
What did you use for lubricant? I would like to try this as well. Pretty sure i have feed rate rpm and spindle speed, depth of cut as well. Sourced a couple grinding cups. Just curious about what you used...and any suggestions, of course.
I used actual flywheel grinding lubricant. You can find it at engine parts supply shops. I get mine from Goodman. You can find them online.
Question: are you cutting the flywheel flat across, or are you putting any tilt on the head to angle the cut?? I know some flywheels like the center cut a smidge deeper than the outer edge, but I don't know the specs on just how much that is. Thanks! Awesome procedure.
Cutting perfectly flat. Check out some of my newer videos, I finally got a dedicated flywheel grinding machine and show the whole process on that in detail.
Wouldn't that damage the ways though? Or do you have them covered. I remember I was cutting g10 on a bridgeport. After a few years (even with a rubber cover on the ways for the Y axis) the fiberglass still worked its way in and damaged the ways. I still think this is awesome. I've never seen anybody do this on a Bridgeport the way you're doing it. It's almost like you made your mill into a Blanchard. If I'm spelling that correctly 😂.
BTW nice work!
This is perfect. I need to find such grinding wheel for my milling machine too. It's a Morse taper 4.
Let me ask you this, did you dial that flywheel in before you started grinding on it?
Was the guy who brought you the flywheel named Gabriel by chance? I just sold one to a guy in IN by that name.
Why don't you use autofocus on your camera? And if you do, bin that and get better one! Otherwise great videos
may I know what speed of the grinding wheel u running at?
@@szefam check the speed on the grinding wheel you are using. they should be fine for 2900 but I don't know what you are using
