Hey Ben, basically you're right about them hoping some people forget about the refund option, but more importantly: since u have to adhere to THEIR third party refund policy, they can request whatever information they want to issue you the refund. And from there they can either sell ur info, keep it, and do whatever they want

Sellers will often "accidentally" create a discount code that makes an item free or heavily discounted so that they can become a top seller, then some of them will send you a message asking you to cancel the order because if you don't they will get fired. That explanation is specious because most of these scammers don't care about the accounts, they are disposable; they make an account, scam as many as possible, then let the account burn and just make a new one. The reason they provide a fake tracking number is to BUY TIME. By waiting as long as possible to pretend to have shipped it, then giving a fake number and saying to wait for it to arrive, they can delay long enough to pass deadlines to file a dispute, request a refund, leave negative feedback/reviews, do a charge-back, etc. They'll usually apologize and offer to send it again to buy even more time, even if you asked for a refund. I've seen it _many_ times on eBay. 😒

I will not buy anything unless it is shipped or sold by Amazon. If Amazon ships it but someone else sells it I'll buy it but I will not buy anything if somebody else's ships it and someone else sells it. And it doesn't matter if it's a $15 Foundation or a $250 Bissell floor cleaner that I just bought. I was looking for an upholstery cleaner a few months ago and I saw one the price was really good and when I scroll down to see if Amazon warehouse was selling it it wasn't it was somebody else selling and shipping and I had read in there refund policy that if it isn't sold or shipped by Amazon they won't take responsibility for it and thank God I didn't buy it the one I bought was from Amazon and there was a problem with it and they took it right back. In the top portion of the invoice page, beneath the "Items Ordered" section that shows the entire name of the item you purchased, you should see "Sold by" followed by the seller's name and a little blue link you can click on called "Seller Profile." From the seller profile page, you can look at their feedback history and contact them if you need to. I just checked on my own account and I can do this for orders dating all the way back to 2003.

Hey! I encountered this same scam last year, with a terrace propane heater. It was on sale (through Prime too, funny enough) for $50 (they usually go for $300 or so). I ordered 2, knowing I would receive them… well, I actually received 2 heater covers! I contacted the seller, told him I understood his scam, and he gave me my full money back, plus let me keep the covers.
In your case, you’ll notice that there was an option for the pizza oven alone, or the oven with a digital infrared thermometer. They will likely send you a cheap $5 thermometer alone from China (pretty sure about that), and edit or delete their listing shortly after they completed the sale. If they get 1,000 clients to order (total $120,000 revenue), and only have 80% chargebacks (i.e. 20% not taking the time/energy to do so), they’ll still pocket $24,000 for a 1-time scam. So you see why they keep doing these!
If you want me to give you more details on these practices, I know quite a bit. Let me know, I’ll be more than happy to chat!

Ben, I have a serious health issue that means that I must depend upon multivitamins for the rest of my years.
I thought that I was being clever buying them in large quantities from what seemed like directly from the manufacturer's store front, on Amazon. However, months later my gums receded, my nails snapped and cracked, my lips were permanently dry, my hair fell out and became sparce.
I started feeling weak and under the weather. So, I changed my supplier and bought directly from a UK famous pharmacy - Boots the Chemist. Within, days I was feeling better.
I believe that I was seriously scammed into buying FAKE multi-vitamins. I am so upset as I now have some teeth with receded gum lines which are wobbly. It will cost me thousands of pounds to dentally correct.
I do not like the word ' hate,' because to me it means the same as 'murder' and 'death' but in this situation I believe it aptly applies.

I am bad about reading the whole page of a listing. But I should. Listings tell you where the product is coming from, and other information that you might wish you had known. Private sellers are a mixed bunch. It can mean a horrific shipping charge if you otherwise are an Amazon Prime member and should be getting free shipping. Be sure to read your final order before pushing "place order." I have caught many shipping charges on items I wanted because I didn't notice it was not eligible for Prime. Luckily, you can delete any product that does not qualify for Prime if you want to. In our haste and focus to find certain products, the third party seller thing is easy to overlook. Not all third party listings are scams, but many are. Beware of extra low prices! Also, many will make up for low price by charging a ton for shipping!

In the case of a legitimate seller though, the shipping label is created by a shipping / logistics company.
What they do is group everything in a batch and send using their own bulk shipping to your local area and then it gets handed over to your local postal service / UPS for the last mile. It allows for much cheaper shipping rates across the country or overseas.
And yes you will not get any real time tracking until the package is in the hands of the last mile courier. Which can take weeks or sometimes months.

I bought something that had a really great price, about $20-30 less than the other listings for the same thing. It wasn't a prime item so I knew the shipping would take longer. and I was ok with that. Finally, I got the delivery notice. When I went to pick up the package the UPS store didn't have anything for me. I showed them the Amazon page for my orders and the delivery notice. My son thought to Google the tracking number and it showed up in the China Post tracking. It showed there as delivered as well. And at the exact same time as the Amazon notice showed. However... It also had a bit more information. It was saying that my package was delivered to the Post Office in Palmer, Alaska!!! And I live in the Southeast, nowhere near Alaska. I ended up talking to someone at Amazon and after being transferred through 4 different people/departments I was issued a refund to my account which showed up within about 30 minutes.

Yeah, four or five years ago I ordered something from Amazon that ended up being a similar situation. The item was priced at about $75, which was the expected cost but the item was completely sold out at every other seller. I was ordering this in January as a birthday gift for an April birthday.
After about a week, I realized that the item had not shipped. I decided to just wait but keep an eye on it. After nearly a month, I contacted the seller to ask if my item would ever ship. I got a reply right away, apologizing and telling me that the item was on back order but would ship as soon as it was in stock. Another month passed, still nothing. Finally near the end of March, I contacted the seller again to say that if the item wasn’t shipping within a few days, I wanted a refund.
I heard nothing from the seller. I had to report a problem to Amazon in order to het the refund process to happen, since the seller had disappeared. I did get a full refund, but only because I put in the effort to make it happen. I’m certain the seller was just hoping people would forget about the order and never request a refund.

PayPal would not refund me saying it was legit 🙄 Had to make a claim through my credit card company linked to my PayPal...I have since cancelled PayPal over this ordeal and their lack of support. I got a tracking number as well that eventually said the stove was delivered INSIDE my parcel box. If this was the actual pizza oven it would never fit inside a tiny parcel box. I don't know how they managed that scam because nothing was actually ever delivered??? This was the scammiest scam I've ever been scammed by and a big lesson learned!

First I have to locate where the seller is, because import tax is a thing :/ and usually those sellers in China are shit...
After, I have to read reviews that give 5 stars but are negative or just reviews that doesn't state enough info 😐 OR IT'S FOR ANOTHER PRODUCT???
Too much effort for thigh high socks.
I don't understand why anyone would use this website if not for my reasons: couldn't find product elsewhere.

The explanation as I did this:
First, a tracker is always needed to avoid flags. Also, no matter what happens they will collect your data just to sell it.
    1) Yes in most cases rich people will not bother with it and you take their money.
    2) Sometimes they will intentionally send the wrong item, collect the money, & the seller will vanish. After that Amazon, is responsible for the refund....not the seller.

When I opened it, it was an inflatable bladder used to pry open car windows to insert a lock-out tool and open the door. It was junk. But, it satisfied all the requirements for Amazon to release the seller and allow them to decide on a refund. What I got next was an offer of a partial refund of about 30%. I said no, I want it all back. They countered with a 50% refund and "you resell item to friend for difference". I said, give me back all my money. Finally, Amazon issued a full refund. I wonder how many people take the partial refund and go on?

I'm in Amazon Vine, and this happens with some of the free items we're supposed to be sent for our reviews. It's crazy how often sellers will voluntarily submit items for the Vine program but then never send the items. They're donating the product for free so we can review it on the product page, but if the product never gets to us, we can't review it. When that happens I just send a quick e-mail to Amazon Vine and let them know that a product's tracking says it isn't going to arrive, and they remove it from my list of products waiting for me to review them. I guess the sellers think that some Vine members might write the review anyway, without getting the product, since it's "free". However, we have to pay income tax on those "free" items, so we're not going to review something we never received, and we're not going to keep the item on our list where it'll end up costing us income tax.

You pinned the wrong comment. as a former Amazon seller with over 25 million in sales I can tell you exactly why they're doing it and how they're doing it. Amazon pays out every two weeks to the day for all sales that have occurred over the previous 14 days, as long as that order has a tracking number associated with it. This means that if a dispersal is scheduled to happen on the 14th and they sell half a million dollars worth of product on the 10th, as long as they show a tracking number by the 14th they will get paid all of that money directly to their bank account in China. Then when people start filing claims that seller is gone with the wind. If a refund is issued it's Amazon paying it and not the seller. The seller has already moved to a new account and starts the process over with a new bank and rips off more hardworking Americans.

Having worked for a 3rd party Amazon seller I know Amazon sellers have to adhere to very strict metrics (0% “A-Z claims” for example) so if the scammers are hoping to get away with any sort of money they won’t want to raise any suspicions with Amazon Seller Central. Amazon only pays out to sellers every 30 days or so and they can withhold payouts to sellers for any reasons whatsoever. When a 3rd party wants to sell an item they have to “piggyback” onto the same product listing as everyone else. Especially if the product is a brand name product. Amazon don’t like multiple product listings like you find on eBay. They want all sellers to say how much they are selling their stock of a certain product on ONE product listing. Seen as how this brand is established and ‘brand registered’ on Amazon (the pizza oven manufacturer I mean, via the Amazon Brand Registry Program) Amazon will have a decent control over sellers creating their own listings for the same product via using EAN numbers etc. Problem is by the scam accounts charging so cheap compared to the legit sellers then Amazon allows them to “Win The Buy Box”. Cheapest price auto defaults the scam sellers to be the ones who are auto chosen if you don’t look twice. Amazon ALWAYS drives the price as low as they can make so essentially they facilitate this scam to happen. I am not sure why/how the scammers go through the massive hassle of becoming an approved Amazon seller as a smash and grab operation like this wouldn’t last long enough for Amazon to give them any sort of payout.

I have learned the important stuff but it is just too busy... not intuitive at all. They don't do a great job of making it clear who the seller is... and often times the seller may even contain the actual product/brand name in the store name (which may or may not be the actual authorized seller/distributor)
I have to make a concious effort to make sure the product is if at all possible coming from amazon and not a shady seller. Not that all are bad or anything it just is an increased likelihood of a scam. It honestly makes sense that I call it "scamazon" lol
