I'm 59, played in bands and written songs since from the age of 16.....this is the Most beautiful song I have ever heard...I thank you for this .....truly
This is so well done. The very definition of less is more. Love the banjo only behind the vocal and how it comes across as a full sound, nothing else needed (although I love the violin in the version they play on SiriusXM). This song grabbed me the first time I heard it. Excellent vocal!
Love this song! I play fingerstyle banjo and am starting to learn claw hammer and this song convinces me that claw hammer is going to be a game changer for my songwriting on banjo. I’ll start by learning this song! :-) Thank you Ryan for writing this!
Pick me a wildflower in the mornin' And I'll hold it with me always where I'm goin' And when I feel sorrow or death is in my view I'll wear my wildflower perfume Tomorrow I'll be leavin' before nightfall My captain has now heard sirens call And as the ships sail on the ocean so blue I'll bathe in wildflower perfume Still picks two wildflowers every mornin' And waits in wake of love still returnin' And calls for the post run every afternoon To send me wildflower perfume
Ryan is really the full package: guitar, harmonica, vocals and banjo - not to mention the song-writing. This was the song that got me started listening to him. I seems spare and simple, both musically and visually, but it still provides all you need to satisfy your ears and your eyes. Somehow it is both haunting and mesmerizing at the same time. To get a sense of what Ryan can do, I recommend that fans of this song listen to the others online, particulary this (ua-cam.com/video/E-bzf131IzI/v-deo.html) one!
I'm pretty sure it's sawmill. I can play it in that easily. What unlocked it for me is realising he's using the drone string in there during the intro, which is why he doesn't hit fret 5 on the highest string.
