    You need to adjust the sensitivity down to obtain a middle reading then move the detector, and readjust again when it reaches a max reading.
    Very handy to use to inspect for any damages before you start any work to cover your r,ss. The detector is also handy as not all ducts run in a straight line, think if you were inserting the camera from the rear of toilet within the home then the meterage is only an estimate.

    You're inspecting a new unburied pipe. If you were inspecting a buried pipe and find a break or other problem, a good locator tells you exactly where to dig or break through concrete to make the repair. In the states, we also have septic tanks in many rural areas. Often the exact location of these tanks are lost over time. A good sonde and locator will help find the tanks. Generally plumbing DWV pipes are hidden from view and a locator allows you to find pipes through walls, concrete and soil.

    I'v gone with two of your recomendations, the foam gun and the rotory lazer and you ain't been wrong yet, the lazer level replaced my spectra one that went missing that cost over £700, and as you said the cheaper one dose exactly the same job, so keep up the honest product tests.

    Seems a good deal. I use a similar one for pest control and ive got a 3k unit too. The cheap one is the first i get out to do a quick search of the system and its usually the only one i use. If theres a long distance or several bends to negotiate then the big unit is used. The locator does look cheap tbh but it needs to be tuned as you are using it to locate the sonde in the camera head.

    You're meant to adjust the sensitivity on the reader to dial into the exact location. You made a heap of using that. Also the purpose of the reading meter is if you didn't know the location of the pipes you roded.

      Having the distance is great on a straight run, but if there's a bend or two that device would be handy

      @@Mr_A_Buildersnot at all mate I love your videos. I was shouting at the phone watching you use the meter.😅 There should be an adjustable dial on the meter that you turn down the sensitivity the closer you get to the camera location to get the exact location. It's handy if you are on a property where you don't know the exact direction of pipes. Works kinda like a stud locator or laser level etc. The rods and attachments do look flimsy to be fair 👍

    • @Mr_A_Builders
      @Mr_A_Builders  6 місяців тому

      @Guvnor100 if it worked!!! No doubt there's devices/brands out there that would do exactly that, this ain't one of them!

      Ah fair play mate. Appreciate that. In all honesty, I could have spent a few hours perfecting it but I have zero confidence in it, it's so so cheap looking/feeling. I'd want a lot better for £800. The camera itself ain't bad though. Thank you for watching mate, appreciate it.

  • @jennybn
    @jennybn 6 місяців тому +3

    it should have an attenuator, to adjust the sensitivity as you get closer to the camera, so the meter isn't at full scale all the time. it can also be used to find the camera if it gets stuck

  • @catabaticanabatic3800
    @catabaticanabatic3800 6 місяців тому +1

    Yea, an honest review. No fawning gratitude. The suppliers must recognise that their kit is totally out there to be ripped if it is not good. The camera locator is useful if you are not sure of the pipe routing. If all you have is the entry hole and you've gone,say 12 metres, on an uncharted run, you have no idea where the camera is - all you know is that you have payed out 12 metres of cable. If a dig is necessary in order to effect a repair, the locator should find the camera with some considerable degree of accuracy and prevent any worksite resembling a rabbit warren. It might well need calibrating/setting in order to function correctly. Other brands of locator certainly do work.

    Adam, interesting product review, my Son works for Dyno-Rod and I have seen the professional drain cameras they use - at the end of the day you get what you pay for - however this product seems to fall into no mans land between the diy market and the professional market and is not really an attractive proposition for either - as a few posters have already said - if you need to survey some pipework - it's easier to get someone in to do it - and you don't get covered in sh**t either!! look forward to Sunday's video,
    Regards Nick

    The idea of plastic grub screws is to protect the camera from sausage fingered users. They are supposed to break if over tightened.

    • @Sarge084

      The locator seemed to have a sensitivity switch, which you didn't use until you turned it off. The switch clicks when turned on then continues to turn, like a volume switch, but instead of sound it adjusts the sensitivity. As you turned it full on it was at maximum sensitivity and you probably could have detected the head from across the road.
      Try it again with the on switch just clicked on, and not turned full scale, then see how close you need to get to the camera.

    Cost versus usage and how much time/money you’d save by having one. I think the locator needs a little more time to test as the sensitivity seems to be set too high. For fault finding its okay. Too much money for someone like me looking back at 38 years in my previous home the only issue I’ve had was locating the soak away. Nice vid and thanks for posting. Regards Mike 👍🏻

    The locator is for when you don't have straight runs of pipe and can't see where the pipework is. As for price you can get a much better set up even if you only using randomly or for a few jobs a year for the same or a little more money. the memory card is far to small for even DIY usage, you would want a 512 card.
