It's been over ten years since I dived into Minecraft with a group of friends, digging and building on our first private server. I had no idea how long I'd spend expanding my underground base, or mining for diamonds just because it was fun to stack them up. The music from Minecraft, especially the original stuff by C418, seeped into my brain without me knowing it and to this day when I hear songs like this it brings me back to the amazing feeling of digging into the sandbox game that is Minecraft!

It's 2021, and me and my niece just had a Hotel building contest. I only play creative with the kids, except for my special project that I keep to myself, for now. I still hop on my Java Edition and tool around, and I have yet to beat the Ender Dragon in standard play, let alone The Wither. I have yet to run out of things to do.
Minecraft has been going strong so long that it has gone from "me and the boys" playing Minecraft. To "me and my boys" (my kids) playing Minecraft together...

@@blanksky3342 Well, I mean yeah. They never addressed it. People asked but they never explained. It was just suddenly, "Here's Lena Raine. She's doing the music now." They never mentioned C418 at all.
I guess we'll see what happens if they add new music in 1.17.

@@blanksky3342 Yeah. She only did one "disc". But she did the three or four other soundtracks that play in the nether, as well as the ambient sounds from memory.
Every song that was added in the Nether Update was by her.
This video - and by extension your return - came when I needed it most.
I'm in the last week of my final required math class and this last month or so I've started to feel myself slip a bit. It's not something I'm proud to admit, but what started as me skipping a homework assignment that confused me a bit has turned into me feeling like I don't understand anything from the entirety of the last two units. My next test is on Wednesday I didn't sleep last night due to stress and the fear that I'm going to flub my grade at the last second. This was not helped by the fact that today was my orientation day at the first job I've had in 3 years.
I'm not a very emotional person. In fact, I feel like I'm typically one of the most optimistic and calm people around, maybe even to a fault. I feel like I wasn't even aware of how stressed I was until I heard your familiar, soothing voice - that has been missing in my life for so long - reassuring me that it's going to be okay. It was more than I could take and I genuinely started crying.
I've been sitting here for 30 minutes gathering my thoughts and I guess all I'm trying to say is thank you, Smooth. You are truly a wonderful person with one of the most special talents out there. Never stop doing what you love and although I didn't say it when I watched the update video, I'm so happy you were able to fight off what you were going through and continue making this content for us.

Seriously though. I’m glad good ‘ol smooth has returned. Although I personally feel like I’ve taken his return for granted. I haven’t even watched the previous upload, but I did keep up with the update videos. I used to watch every video that came out, but I guess I’ve changed. It makes sense since I’m now a college student and have a job instead of just being a middle schooler.
I’ve sat here and thought for a minute about my past and what life has turned into as an adult. It makes enjoying the things that I’ve loved in the past much more difficult. But I guess a part of that change is that I need to find different things that I love to experience and enjoy those. A

I literally slept with this after an amazingly bad day, some people think this isn't quality music (some of my friends do), but even if it's someone humming it and doing a mashup of themselves doing this... It's something relaxing... Enjoyable... I slept with this and the original version played after, never had such an amazing sleep.
Watching you walking around what I assume is your Minecraft world, I can't help but remember my first survival map from 10 years back, and the layout of the mines, and the overworld landscape, my house, my farm, the Nether... I feel like it's a place I've personally visited, I can remember the atmosphere, I really think that if I could enter that world once more I would instantly recognize it all, like the same feeling as returning to your hometown after decades, I would remember every nook and cranny, every passageway, every hill. That world is pretty much lost, I used to play on my mom's computer, which of course was changed into a new one. Now I reminisce as I watch your underground base and wonder how many people watching have the same feelings.

I had this world on XB360 with a big mountain base on creative. Me and my dad added to that thing over a period of like 5 years, with my friends adding stuff as well. I had a whole desert dedicated to whatever red stone nonsense I thought up, and I tried to replicate a few of Stampy’s builds. We had a village next to that desert too, with a subway leading back to the mountain base (built over a ravine btw). Across the lake from the mountain was “creeper island”, which was kinda a weird redstone experiment island with some neat little treehouses and stuff. I miss that world.
I’d better backup all that stuff before I get the red ring of death.
This song always reminds me of a server I would hang out in a lot on my first account. Since then, I have not been able to find the server after losing my account, but I was recently able to get a new account. I miss my old online friends and hope to see them again one day if ever. But man after 4 years of not playing minecraft, I feel like a noob, that is until I play with one of my older siblings who still played and still doesn't know that much stuff lol.

@@tommj4365 How much editing? He just lays five tracks on top of each other in this video. The video shows that each is a single take. The hard work was done before and during recording, not afterward.
@@seymourglass26 lol, nah he has talked about how much editing he does, the video is not a true representation of how he actually "sings" these tunes. He basically samples his voice, each note at times, and plays it back like an instrument.
I've had the privilege of hearing him sing live - - - the guy is unbelievably talented. Don't doubt that. Harmonies come naturally & spot-on pitch to him

This brings so much memories to me. I was in a group with 3 other guys and we used to play for hours every weekend and build up our little town with houses, markets, (at least for us noticeable) statues and other stuff we came up with to make the Town a home. The last time I've heard something from them is maybe 5 years ago. Two of them have a family now. Thanks for bringing up those wonderful memories. Haven't thought about them in a while since I'm working a lot these days.

It's Christmas Day, 2012, and you are fifteen years old. For the past couple of weeks you've been building a mountain-top mansion in the little community your server has. You landscaped the sloped peak, taking inspiration from the terrain for the mansion's split levels. You incorporated a natural mineshaft to act as both a glass floor feature and a mine access. Big windows show the landscape and surrounding homes. There's a workshop, a bedroom, a lounge, library, fireplace, storage... Everything a Minecraft kid needs. There's even a roof garden and an observatory tower high above.
It is Christmas Day, 2012, and it's the one lull in the day. You've opened your presents from your parents, had breakfast, and you're waiting for the guests to arrive so you can open the rest.
You log on to the family PC, a desktop in the corner of the room, and load up Minecraft. You log on the server. There's only one other person on at the time, and you wish them a merry Christmas.
You cook up and carefully place the last bits of glass on your observatory tower, creating a glass dome to crown your creation. You carefully make your way down the dirt scaffolding, and touch the ground safely.
By the main entrance, you put a sign, so you can remember this build you worked so hard on.

Everything is perfect and nothing is wrong. You view your hard work as the sun sets and the mobs spawn in the distance, and you take a screenshot because it looks nice. You can't wait to show your friends around.

I wrote a short story based on this song a while ago!

I treaded lightly, so as not to disturb the wildlife beneath me. Still, the golden leaves made a satisfying crunch as they collapsed under my feet. I continued keeping my eyes and ears alert, ever searching. The other kids said it was in this forest, so I wanted to either prove them wrong, or take it for myself.
I slowly crept between trees and under branches, trying to find the gold the old veteran had buried. I didn't have a metal detector, so the best I could do was keep an eye on the forest floor for any dirt that looked a little fresher - it had been twenty years, after all. Maybe he hadn't buried it all that well, so there could be a little glint sticking out from the ground.
As I quietly took one step after another, looking left and right, I slowly became aware of... something. A tiny tickle in my inner ear. I continued walking, and the tickle grew to a prick, the prick to a vibration. I picked up my pace, and the vibrations turned to very quiet notes, notes that were barely audible yet rang in my ear longer than they should have. I turned towards the source of the sound, and the notes grew less quiet, and became chords, chords that were simple yet conjured feelings so complex even I could not understand them.
Excited, I started running towards the sound, sure that this was a beacon of sorts that the veteran had left for himself should he ever come back for the gold. As I ran, the sound grew louder and louder, until it was shaking my teeth in my jaw, my brain in my skull. I burst through foliage into a clearing, and...
In the middle of a ring of fallen leaves, a single loudspeaker sat on the ground, playing the song that had now started to infect my very being. With each note, the nearby trees shook and shed another leaf; with each chord, the fallen vegetation surrounding the speaker danced and resettled into a new resting place. Lining the clearing were perfectly straight birch trees, likely planted by the veteran himself.
I slowly shambled towards the speaker, stumbling on every beat. As I grew closer, I noticed that the leaves falling from the trees were decaying faster than they should, turning gray in a matter of moments, save the leaves around the speaker, which looked vibrant as ever. I hesitated a moment, and they disintegrated entirely.
As I drew further from the birch trees, it suddenly caught my eye that none of them had roots, but all of them had trunks and branches. The bottoms of the trees looked like they had been cleanly sliced off and perfectly balanced on the soil.
I finally reached the loudspeaker, and grabbed onto it for support. My eyes drifted to the label on the top: "Polk Audio PSW111 Subwoofer". I sat down heavily, trying to comprehend what I was seeing through the throbbing my head was experiencing. An MP3 player lying next to the subwoofer caught my eye: it had one song loaded, entitled "Lullaby".
