I listen to some of Steven's episodes. Perhaps it isn't the content of the podcasts that's the problem (as everyone should be able to speak freely in the world). The issue I've found is he is obsessed with gaining new subscribers and the clickbait clips and headlines show sensationalist views. It's quite disappointing. If you read through the comments on many of the episodes, you will find the viewership are actually quite educated and intelligent. They often question a lot of the content. This debate is healthy. Steven should just clean up some of his clickbait and maybe put disclaimers on health episodes.
"The food people eat impacts their health and the health of the environment. Unhealthy diets, overconsumption, and hunger are leading to nutritional deficiencies and diet-related chronic diseases around the world. The food system is also a major cause for climate change, freshwater depletion, deforestation, and pollution of ecosystems, for example through over-application of fertilizers,' says Dr Marco Springmann of the Oxford Martin Programme on the Future of Food and the Centre on Population Approaches for Non-Communicable Disease Prevention at the Nuffield Department of Population Health, University of Oxford
It is news. Steven Bartlett is on British TV. The British public know who he is. That means that, in this country, him being investigated for something like this is news. You might not care, but some people will.
Like professional wrestling, there is some truth and a lot of talent, but it is presented for and should be treated as entertainment. Neither Bartlett nor BBC should constitute news a quarter way through the 21st century.
If someone says 'I stopped taking medication because of a UA-cam video' isn't that down to them? We can't quantify all information to protect stupid people. We all have a responsibility to fact check everything we see if it doesn't sound plausible, even the BBC.
Nope, if you have a large platform and the resources to fact check; then it’s up to them to verify that information. Algorithms are making it harder and harder to verify information.
Of course the audience have a responsibility to be critical listeners when presented with information and assertions, but that doesn't mean we can not hold publishers and content creators answerable for the information and assertion they present to that audience.
I'd usually agree with you but sometimes the people might not be stupid but vulnerable and desparate to help themselves or family members who are suffering and will try something that they hear on a popular podcast even if it might do nothing or worse be harmful.
Wait, you expect HIM to challenge his guests when he has no medical background? All he can do is not recommend, which is what he does. He simply has a chat with this guests.
Anyone who is in the business of interviewing needs to have the brains to identify the grifters, conspiracy theorists and phonies. And if in doubt they are supposed to reach out to a network of trusted experts to get their guests vetted.
@akshayde I'm so sorry for the lies that have been propagated by the BBC in this case. If you wanna be a scientist you have to take in a lot of misinformation and use your own brain to see what checks out and what doesn't. This man is doing nothing wrong and is treating us like the smart individuals we are allowing us to more access to medical info.
It doesn’t help when BBCs own fact checking about one of the subjects of questioning, Thomas Seyfried, is not done thoroughly. On top of the scientific papers he has published, meaning he is not a 19th century charlatan doctor as suggested, but also there is significant support on the scientific community to his claims, and articles by the New York Times and Washington Post, two insignificant media outlets right?, on which he passed scrutiny for making pretty much the same claims he does on the podcast episode. Having a disclaimer around content and is “truth”, especially for health and life influencing one, is definitely a good thing, but it should also apply to the BBC and other media outlets, not only to podcasts. So this whole piece was hypocrite to say the least…
@@nurulislam1284and to add further to both of your comments Dr Seyfried never says doing keto will end cancer. He clearly and thoroughly says that you can reduce the risks but also need to do the regime he treats his patients with specifically based on their individual profile ie- there dietary, chemo and wholistic method for treating cancer if you get it BUT reducing sugar, highly processed foods and achieving or maintaining a healthy weight will be supportive of improving your chances of not developing cancer vs eating processed crap food and not changing your view of health as being PART of a decent preventative approach to cancers. BBC has done themselves a disservice with the report, imo.
I don't think Steven needs to challenge his guests (as they are supposed to be experts in their field) but he should certainty have a disclaimer for every show
I’m not suggesting that what is being shared on his podcast is truthful information but we have a right to speech that is free. To suggest it’s harmful misinformation is to suggest that what the medical profession teaches us is 100% accurate and that’s not truth, that’s as much opinion as the ideas of his guests. People should question if what they’re being told is true regardless of who offers that information. The most dangerous thing a person can do is to feel in their gut that what they’re being told is inaccurate and going along with it out of fear of challenging a person believed to be an expert on the matter.
Last time I checked the guy is not put in jail. Free speech doesn't mean you go unchallenged. If he's so confident in his ideas I am sure he can argue for them successfully in the 'marketplace of ideas'. However it's important to realise that these ideas can spread like wildfire and the vast majority of people don't have the time, computational capacity, or background knowledge to evaluate them critically. Good luck to everyone out there. May the smartest of us survive
Consider this: it is well documented that easy lies get more clicks than hard facts, and subsequently, disinformation spreads easily. But also as an entrepreneur, I now know that I can make more money hosting snake-oil salesmen than actual dieticians. Nobody here is saying that this man shouldn't be allowed to have his platform and choose his guests. Rather, we are calling attention to the fact that currently he should not be considered a reliable source of information. Entertain and opine away, but cross the line into medical advice at your jurisdictional discretion.

They’ve hosted plenty of controversial figures on the BBC. They even had Alex Jones on one time. The BBC just doesn’t allow anyone a free pass like Steven Bartlett does.
@@TheReadycjAlex Jones was only selected to make the BBC look like the sensible grown ups. It works like this. Take any opinion the BBC wants to promote. Get two lunatics on representing the extreme ends of that opinion, then have the BBC presenter representing the grown up and moderate opinion. Every 'debate' is carefully framed like this beforehand. Alex Jones was brought in because the BBC believed he represented a lunatic fringe, on the other side they had some lunatic Guardian journo. Andrew Neil of course representing the grown up and sensible middle ground. There are plenty of sensible people the BBC could have invited on to give alternative opinions - but this would not fit their framing and agenda.
They missed the bit where Dr Seyfried says you may be able to lower your chemo dose with an appropriate glucose/ketone index. They are spreading misinformation...and they are also serious.
Where is the evidence for example that the ketogenic diet cannot benefit cancer patients which you would have to provide in order to claim the information is falsely claimed?
Why will he challenge any of it. He is not an expert to challenge their statements. He is just a moderator of a podcast. I think he is just bringing different perspectives to the public so they make their own informed decisions. We all appreciate that.
There is so much more to the statements his guest said.. alternative medicine can potentially work for earlier stages of cancer not later.. usually a person misses the red flags given out by thier own body.. That's the time when one has to listen to the body, reevaluate the life style and dietary choices.. we are what we eat! ..instead of putting in all kinds of medicines.. that makes the whole internal system go worse.. that's when keto comes in... this is well versed in vedic sciences too ... and we all know how big the pharma and cancer business is.. they are the ones playing with lives of the people.. making them wait until it degrades and then put them to chemo for life.. my friend had a stage 1 breast cancer , she asked for the surgery to be done right away..she was advised by a top hospital in CA that the lump wasnt big enough to operate.. meanwhile what she needs to do ...have heavy dose medicines and start chemo.. what?? She is 25!! she is a lawyer, the medicines caused her to go downhill with all sorts of side effects to the point of depression.. thanks to her determination.. she took a pause and she went to india, opted for alternative medicine.. changed her diet, started yoga , yes she was suffering, but it was better than torturing her mental health from those medicines and when she was better she got operated and actually cured her cancer... thankfully it hasn't relapsed yet.. that's how the doctor's approach should be.. yes the patients are exposed to all sorts of information.. what do docs do when you go into thier clinic.. today doctors' don't want to spend time with the patients and know their history .. just make a list of symptoms, order tests and prescribe medicines.. all the high level doctors just want to write off others.. I've gone through a tragic personal loss because of the same BS approach during covid.. and then in the patients later stages they want to be all emphatic.. it's so sad to see! .. and as for Stephen's team.. good response! People who watch these things should make an effort to research on their own too and not just blindly accept all information that's coming across even what the doctor says.. learn to listen to your body!!🙏
Oh, leave him alone FFS! This channel is in NO place to throw stones, considering the decades of heinous actions you've covered up. It's all public information.
@natashabourne2167 yes but the morons go and refuse to give their kids a polio vaccine or whatever and they you go a nipper in leg braces like the 1970s. Everything should be fact checked
Correct me if i m wrong, Wasn't there a famous study where patients fasted 24 hours before undergoing chemotherapy had much lower side effects? It s different from Keto diet but is the mechanism similar ?
Valter Long has done clinical trials testing The fast mimicking diet in conjunction with chemotherapy. A really big difference would be FMD greatly reduces protein intake whereas keto definitely foes not do that.
Unfortunately, far too many millions, mostly Americans, get every single bit of their information from these podcasts. This guy, that big headed muscle dude Dr. Mike, Joe Rogan, Ben Shapiro, the list goes on.

Keto diet, and even better - Carnivore diet , will give the best chance of curing any disease. Sugar is a major player in the causation of cancer no matter what the spokeswoman for the big drug companies in the yellow top said.
Well, no doctors are honest neither the industry, so people are now learning from those who dare to speak the truth and thank you Steven for providing a platform to those people so we get straightforward information.
Steven has every right to invite and interview anyone he chooses. I was wondering how long it would be before you came for him. If he is increasingly sharing more ‘controversial’ information it’s because he’s awakening and realising that the information you deem ok to share is actually counter to public health and not in the highest interest of the community. Steven is doing amazing things for humanity and long may it continue ✌🏽
No one is disputing that, but if you're shifting from interviewing entrepreneurs to health experts, you have to be much more careful. The podcast has made him rich, he has the time and means to: 1) know his guests talking points 2) consult those with opposing view points to give those guests some challenge 3) responsibility as someone who reaches a lot of the public to put disclaimers and anything else to not only protect those viewers, but to protect himself. Otherwise he's just being a fool with an open mic. Is he hosting people with controversial views or is he hosting people with potentially dangerous views. I'd argue there's a big difference in the two.
By all means, eat sugar and processed foods and wait years to see a doctor while the very diet you are eating could be contributing to your problem. Yes, if you use a 60 second clip to self treat, well then you’re an idiot. It’s just info, some of it feels like quackery, some is legit. People have to do their own research.
Tons of BBC interviews with politicians, where your journalists do not confront many of their views, what about Covid and the investigative journalism? not to mention that you wouldn't ever confront the monarch about anything, for sure not about monarchy or their estates, while the consequences of policies politicians implement affect millions not few individuals. It’s not a view to say false things. A “view” is that I think hot dogs are a sandwich or pineapple is okay on pizza. What’s dangerous here is spreading misinformation and incorrect information in a public way that can inform people’s choices. If I said that it is safe for someone to bungee jump from a 50 floor building with no rope or cord or net, that is not a view, it’s a dangerous spreading of incorrect information.
While everyone is entitled to share their views, the issue arises when misinformation spreads and reaches a large audience. Freedom of speech doesn’t absolve people from responsibility for the consequences of their words, especially when those words can influence actions, beliefs, or public health. It’s important to allow differing opinions, but equally important to challenge misinformation, as the truth has a much higher stake in these discussions.
@@UncleBuZ Many things that we at first thought to be 'misinformation' turned out to be accurate. People like you, who want to suppress free speech, are the real danger.
I've been on Keto and Carnivore for 7 years (62M)... Totally changed my life for the better in every way... The reason Steven did not 'challenge' theses peoples ideas is that THEIR IDEAS ARE CORRECT... We have been (literally) fed this BS "Food Pyramid' crap for decades now, with 'carbs' as the base of our eating. Well look around you, how is that working out for the huge numbers becoming diabetic or suffering some other metabolic disease (or the over 50% of Americans who are obese)... I have ZERO doubt that if we ever make 'Big-Foods' for-profit propaganda illegal, Sugar and starchy carbs will be marked as 'addictive' and not a beneficial source of nutrition.
There's important information that you'd bear in mind. Any surplus of Amino Acids (Building blocs of proteins) are systematically converted to Glucose (there's also a metabolic pathway from Glucose to most Amino Acids) and from then to lipids... some leftovers of these reactions might cause accumulatively (=over time) Gout in the Joints, metabolic acidosis and other Nutrional Disease such as constipation IF Fibers (in Veggies and Fat-based grains) are not daily consumed... ESPECIALLY, if someone have a sedentary lifestyle and doesn't get hydrated enough , this is when it becomes EXTREMELY dangerous!
I'll never fault anybody for clean eating, but there's a difference between promoting a better lifestyle and utter quackery like saying it can treat cancer.
@@arseface2k934 the guy even doesn't know metastasis or other oncological mechanisms... all that continuous research spread out over decades is thrown out of the window... One of the main reasons is ignorance of some medical notions (simplifying médecine and biology for general public is somehow important) and the widespread distrust of conventional institutions due to several scandals like manipulation of scientific research to be weaponized as a tool for advertisements, especially in the US where advertisements is nearly unregulated and rarely put into scrutiny... the FDA is another agent for Industrial Processed Food lobby! All of that gives birth to irrational, baseless statements that's increasingly and seamlessly assimilated by the general public. Many found an opportunity to sell their own pseudo medical products!
Really tired of irresponsible, immoral people prioritizing their popularity and wealth over others. And the platforms that end up cultivating such behavior.
Free speech does not mean what has been shared cannot be challenged. Misinformation is a huge problem but your idol is not fact checking (he has zero capacity for that) and just lets his guests run with anything. There are people who are gullible enough to believe it and die because of these alternative therapies.

I began investing in stocks and Def earlier this year, and it is the best choice I've ever made. My portfolio is rounding up to almost a million and I have realized that when a stock makes it to the news, chances are you're quite late to the party, the idea is to get in early on blue chips before it becomes public. There are lots of life changing opportunities in the market, and maximize it.
This is just a matter of the researchers on the podcasts have to give a disclaimer of 'this is ongoing research and must be taken with own discretion and based on personal condition rather than taken as universal confirmed facts' then this would resolve this investigation. If something could potentially help someone then they should not have the freedom of speech taken away because in the event it may not work for someone else, or also this information could be undertaken in conjunction with mainstream practice and could enhance healing/ health. - with this being said don't fall for scams/ do not pay for anything all the information can be found for free, someone might compile the information and put it all in one place for convenience such as a course or book etc. and put it behind a pay wall for there effort of compiling, however this information can be found for free and check reviews and ask what is included and don't pay high prices say more than the cost of a book.
I think the biggest claims she’s made here: 60 second advice people are taking. No they’re doing research. Sugar does contribute to a lot of conditions that can amplify cancer cutting sugar out should always be the first thing you do. The doctors they mentioned aren’t selling supplements they’re providing some useful info. Do proper research
"In an analysis of 15 health-related podcast episodes, BBC World Service found each contained an average of 14 harmful health claims that went against extensive scientific evidence," BBC claims without offering any scientific evidence.
There's so much mistrust with the medical industry, from diagnostic mistakes, long waiting lists, stretched staffing, clinicians being promoted to early which often leads to poor medical practice...people will look elsewhere for 'expert advice'

Steven Bartlett is not a doctor, he’s not going to be able to challenge his guests like you suggest. Listen, the biggest threat to people’s health is not managing to see a GP or consultant in a timely manner, and a crumbling NHS. Let people decide what they listen to.
Then he shouldn't bring the guests on and talk about medicine and health. Do you think more people will see a GP after watching his video where someone says keto diet can cure cancer? Wake up moron
They are not even gonna go to doctor (until it's too late) if they think keto can prevent/cure cancer. There are far too many pseudo scientific health influencers who often make their beliefs/claims seem genuine and based in studies they had misinterpreted
Surely by your logic then, he shouldn't be having these people on if he's not an expert. But seeing as he does have these guests on, I'll argue he is able to give challenge based on: he will know his guests talking points beforehand and a man of his means is surely able to consult those with opposing views to his guests. At this point he's just becoming a grifter.
No, it doesn't. It means he has a lot more work to do. If he won't challenge his guests, then he should put disclaimers to not only help his viewers, but to also help himself from instances like this.
stopped watching his podcast a while back, when I realised that most of his so called health experts sounded more like quackery. People should stay in their lane.
Yes, please stay in your lane, you arent a health expert, so dont have an opinion on what health experts have to say. Which experts do you choose to listen to? Which ones do you decide are the real experts and the quacks? What gives you the ability to say which is which? Lest you be a total hypocrite?
He is getting attacked for 2 reasons. One obviously is his ethnicity and success and the other is he is bringing on guest that fought big pharma. Dr Hyman teached me lots and helped me. Sickening to see him attacked
Wait, about the cancer guy, he put the disclaimer several times that the keto diet is an extra to the medication! Meaning people shouldnt stop taking the medication! He wasn’t irresponsible… quite the opposite.
Not according to western law….it is one of the reasons the BBC can publish articles that are wrong, then retract them 2 days later. He, the host, is not making any statements or guarantees. He is interviewing someone.
Not really. He is no expert. He wouldn’t have a clue if something some guest said is wrong or not. Best he can do is move on to the next question. If you had some random guy talk to you about how in neurology, the neurons have a haptic curve at the end that senses where it is extending, and that they exploit that to grow biological neural networks, you really can only say “wow, that’s cool” and either forget about it in a second or regurgitate what you’ve heard in parties to sound smart.
@12q8 oh come off of it. Anyone could challenge someone who is recommending a ketogenic diet over chemo for those suffering from cancer. If you are inviting someone onto a podcast to talk about x research, you should surely know their talking points beforehand and should want to challenge them on some things. The podcast host isn't some regular guy struggling to make ends meet. He has the luxury of time and is able to consult others with opposing views to his guests so that some points can be challenged.
@ you haven’t even watched the episode, the context, or anything. Also, you don’t know his life to claim he has the luxury of time, and it is not his job to find an expert on every subject, for every episode.
Seyfried repeatedly suggests you should work with your oncologist and that chemo doses can often be lower/less toxic for patients with a therapeutic glucose/ketone index. The BBC SUCKS.
Well I don’t think that it’s Steven’s job to be an ivestigative journalist or something and challange every single thing a guest says - no one would come to his podcast that way 😂 also that would be very hard as Steven is not a health expert. I believe Steven does a great job on getting opinions out of guests and I believe it’s a resposibility of a podcast listener to fact check a guest and come to their own conclusions.
Sounds like Steven's not much of anything except another self appointed UA-cam lightweight. If 'edgar' likes just hearing trash talk, where Steven doesn't do the homework of the honest, then go for it!
It's not that no one would come to his podcast, but rather people with actual substance would only be interested in coming to his podcast. You can flesh people's opinions on any matter by giving them some challenge. He isn't some regular guy, he has the luxury of time and is able to consult people with opposing views to his guests. He also knows the guests talking points beforehand as well, it's not like they just show up at his podcast and he's scrambling for things to speak about. I'd agree with you on him not needing to be an investigative journalist if he's just asking business people what they did to succeed etc, but once you go into the field of health, then absolutely have to be.

This worries me about the authenticity of BBC now. I've seen that episode and at no point does he simplify it to just cutting out sugar, and juicing. He also doesn't advocate that you don't do chemo, he just tells you that it is in fact harmful (that's why it works so you can't really deny that fact). He also doesn't push ANY supplements or pills. In fact he encourages more study of the subject based off of what his studies show. He wants REAL scientists and Dr's to look at what he's saying from a point of understanding not simply refuting because your peers say don't look at the data. I have never be on the level of a conspiracy theorist but this is giving me MAJOR cover-up vibes.... and BTW he LITERALLY said the same thing this DR said in that there isn't a magic bullet to cure cancer which is more proof that you either didn't listen to the podcast or are deliberately omitting or cherry picking what you want from it. This is real clownery frfr. Yall think we all stupid huh.

Wait, you expect HIM to challenge his guests when he has no medical background?
All he can do is not recommend, which is what he does.
He simply has a chat with this guests.
Yes so he is actively platforming liars and scammers and that's a problem too.
@ definitely not your problem
either he likes or not he is pushing all kinds of claims that people will listen to
Anyone who is in the business of interviewing needs to have the brains to identify the grifters, conspiracy theorists and phonies.
Also ho doesn't say dont do chemo , he says you can use it in conjunction with chemo at a lower dose
Eww, just the tone of this hit piece highlights why the "news" is no longer the main source of info/tainment. I wonder if this aired on TV.
This is laughable.
BBC is a fraud
I don't think Steven needs to challenge his guests (as they are supposed to be experts in their field) but he should certainty have a disclaimer for every show
i think this is a fair response
Here’s a funny joke: what’s the difference between misinformation and information?
Answer: about 6 months 😂
This is becoming a ubiquitous phrase among people who confuse fiction with facts.
Tell that to a cancer patient getting fleeced and or dying inadvertently. Free speech doesn't give you the right to shout Fire Fire in a crowded room.
@@peznino1 This. Free speech doesn't mean freedom from consequences. Shouting "Fire!" in a crowded theater is one example of this

They’ve hosted plenty of controversial figures on the BBC. They even had Alex Jones on one time. The BBC just doesn’t allow anyone a free pass like Steven Bartlett does.

Even if they are not correct in the podcast why can’t they say their opinion on these health topics.

Did you see how well that worked for Alex Jones?
Persons of prominence that share their view can be very harmful.

Yes. You are so right!
