    It's time to finish the gas install in our campervan! This is the second part of our setup after mounting the underslung LPG tank in the last video.
    We went for the Voyager 4500 cooker which has 2 hobs, a grill and an oven. We just need to make all the connections for our gas regulator, manifold and the oven itself now!
    We followed the British standard BS EN 1949:2001 and had all of our gas install in our campervan checked over by a Gas Safe engineer afterwards. Thanks to David from Leisure Heat for that!
    Will it pass the Gas Safe check so we can use our kettle for the first time and make our first cup of tea? We'll see!
    Thanks for watching! Any comments or questions? Let us know below!

    We've used our oven a lot on the road now and love it, it's been great to make copious amounts of tea up to a full Sunday roast and everything in between 😋If you're installing a similar setup then all the different bits of kit and products we used in the video should be linked in the description, and you can also find our diagrams there as well 👍
    We had our gas install checked over by David from Leisure Heat (www.leisureheat.com ) and can highly recommend him if you need something similar and are in the Plymouth/Exeter area!

    Great job 👏. Can you fit the worktop tight to the oven or do you need to leave 20mm around the oven?

    • @SelfBuiltStories
      @SelfBuiltStories  Місяць тому +1

      Cheers 🙂 And I wouldn't advise it, the air gap is important because of the heat of the oven. We did overhang ours slightly into the 20mm space to hide the plywood top of the cabinet and the aluminium sheet, but not by much. The hob burners need to be higher than the worktop as well so that the flame can't lick up the sides, so we spent a while figuring out the right height of the shelf when we built the cabinet so that the worktops sit lower than the top of the oven 👍

    I fitted a gas pressure meter, so I could periodically check for any possible leaks. And finally, added a solenoid gas valve under the body next to the tank, with an easily accessible control switch in the cab. This way it's easy to isolate gas whilst driving.

    Of all the fantastic and detailed work you've done on this van, the thing that really astonishes me is you pumping your own LPG. I wish we could do that here in the states. The places we go to have our tanks filled make it seem like you have to have a Doctorate to operate the valve. Many of them are even refusing to fill onboard tanks siting some "safety" crap. As if it is inherently unsafe to fill a tank attached to a vehicle. I can't even leave my tanks in then back of my pickup.
    Cheers. 🫖🍵

      Interesting, we did not know that! That does seem strange to us as we've filled up dozens of times now in multiple countries and almost all of them have been self service. Are there many places to have it filled up at least? And thanks a lot! 😀👍

    A very cool and tidy job. Everything takes longer than anticipated - you've been there before. Bending pipe, making connections, running wires - it just takes uo so much time. Add to that the setting up for the filming, the filming itself, the post production, the upload, comments and likes. Most people just do not realize, how much effort goes into these videos.
    Thanks for another job well done! 🏆
    Cheers and hugs from Germany - stay safe! 🚐☁🍀

    • @SelfBuiltStories
      @SelfBuiltStories  Місяць тому

      Definitely, we gave up trying to estimate how long everything would take. Just driving to and from Screwfix to get the extra pipe took an hour and a half that we hadn't planned for 😂 And yeah the filming and editing easily made the whole build 3-5x longer, so it's great that people are enjoying watching it to make that worthwhile! 😛

    Ok, first off, great video as usual. Your attention to detail is amazing. Great camera skills too. But being a Yank, why oh why would you put milk in tea???? Milk is for coffee!!!🤣 (actually cream or half and half if I'm being honest ...)
    Seriously though, while I have no desire to build a camper van like you two have, I've learned quite a lot about building just watching you work. Your willingness to jump right in and go for it is truly inspiring.
    But milk in tea? I guess if I were British it would make sense, but then I'd be a part of the milk first vs. milk after argument and I get into enough arguments as it is.

    • @SelfBuiltStories
      @SelfBuiltStories  Місяць тому

      Haha cheers, we've had quite a few comments about how we put the milk in our tea, but wasn't expecting this one! Pretty sure *not* having milk in it would be more controversial over here, and cream would be very odd 🤣 But yes tea is delicious with milk, the debate is whether it goes first or last! If you ordered a pot of tea over here and didn't get given a small jug of milk with it (usually with way more than you need for your cuppa) then there would be questions! To be fair there are those that favour a black tea, but the default would be with milk 😀 Glad you're enjoying the videos, thanks for watching!

It's not something we've really thought about as it's mounted quite high and a similar setup to the fuel tank. We check it every now and then when we go under there and the underbody paint we sprayed it with has been holding up really well, but we'll redo that every now and then peace of mind too 👍

      Cheers! We really like it and are very glad we went for a full gas oven as we use it a lot. Great to be able to have the variety to cook pretty much anything we would in the house (or just to bung a pizza in on a lazy day 😛). The hobs and the oven part work great, although being a small size for a campervan you do have to get a bit creative sometimes. So with pizza we often have to cut it in half and position each piece slightly off from the other or it won't fit and we can't close the door. But we usually have to cut in in half just to fit in in the fridge first anyway 😅 The grill is good but the element is right down the center only, so it doesn't really cook much on the sides. We've learnt to use it like that so if we make toast under the grill we'll just stick two pieces one behind the other in the middle. So it took a bit of getting used to because of the size, but we wouldn't be without it now!

      It would let you get to the back of it but the access would be a bit restricted as the cab seat on the other side is fixed. Hmm, the wiring regs say that it should connect to 'the main earthing terminal' (MET), which for us in the van is the earth bar in the consumer unit. We did consider connecting it somewhere else on the van chassis as it would have been a much shorter wiring run for us, and ultimately the earth bar is bonded to that anyway. But we decided against it in the end as we prefer to follow the specs as closely as possible.
      If you connect it via the socket then you're reliant on a secondary link (from the socket back to the consumer unit) to ensure the gas remains bonded, and if that socket was removed at some point then it would take the bond with it and you'd have to remember to put it somewhere else. For similar reasons in a domestic install the earth clamp must be within 600mm of where the gas pipe enters the property and before any branches, and it's not allowed to piggyback the bond via another already bonded pipe. It has to have its own dedicated wire so that removing any pipework from the install won't leave other parts of it un-bonded. You can run a single wire to multiple pipes, but it must be one continuous (unbroken) one going via them all because of that.
      A lot of things in the van are a bit of a grey area as the regs are primarily written for domestic settings where as a DIYer you wouldn't even be allowed to do any gas work yourself. So we would always advocate following everything to the letter as much as possible and getting it checked over by a Gas Safe engineer afterwards as well for peace of mind 👍

    Guys I followed some of your earlier tutorials but can’t believe you’re still working on this. I built mine in just over 3 months. Way more patience than me.

      We actually finished the build a long time ago now but still catching up with the videos. They take a lot of work to edit so have to find the time for that. Spent the last 3 months in Norway which didn't help 😎

      Haha thank you, we miss Norway already! But it is easier to get round to editing our videos here, we had planned to do more while we were over there but with the almost midnight sun we found ourselves outside most of the day instead 😍⛰
