- Its here! and oh boy lads we're in for an hour long video!
This episode honestly destroyed me, the pixel animation was amazing and so much detail! Ive only had a second viewing and already from what people have pointed out to me there was a lot of cool easter eggs and hints i wasnt expecting! Of course again theres things ive missed out in this video since i got up at 4.50am but i really did love everything about this episode and it was well worth the wait.

my theory is that janus saw what was happening and created the skip button since logan was running his mouth, why in the world would logan create a skip button after saying that ignoring his words would be choosing ignorance? and especially at that particular moment? the skip button is even black and yellow if i remember correctly, im sure deceit was rather intrigued by the conversation but soon realised it was going downhill and had to step in.

I would understand if the sound is and us was realtively the same. But it's not. For me his name is Janice/Janis, if it's pronounce like that I don't see how a U would fit.
I'm getting flashbacks to when Virgil "ducked out". Roman is starting to feel that he isn't necessary and I hope he is okay. He's one of my favorite sides.

i feel like after this episode roman went to virgils room for two main reasons: 1) he was feeling anxious and not good enough and all of that fun stuff and 2) vigil has the most experience with deceit.

You know...Janus is a Roman God. Janus is the God of beginnings, gates, transitions, time, duality, doorways, passages and endings. He's often depicted as having two faces which I think that's what they were going for when they chose that name! It fits perfectly with Deceipt!!! btw...I also cried in this so you're not alone...
It also gives us the Latin word for door, ianua, and the name of January, which was named after Janus because it's the start of the year, the gateway to the new year.
He could also be seen as the gateway between the dark sides and the light sides. Remus didn't appear until Deceit allowed him to. It's a very good chance that he's also keeping the Orange side back

Theory time:
Deceit is HALF snake. His two-headed snake logo shows that there are multiple things parts of him. To simplify it, a ‘good’ (self-preservation) and ‘bad’ (lying in a bad way). Yes, he’s a ‘good’ side now, but all of the sides have ‘bad’ parts. If you say his human side of his face is ‘good’ and the snake side is ‘bad’, notice how, when he faces Thomas, most of the snake skin is hidden. But when he faces Roman, the human side is hidden. Maybe this is to show the audience how the person he is talking to views him. Roman views him as an evil snake and Thomas sees him as just human.
And/or it just so happen that the angle of Janus’s snake face was Roman’s angle too.

@@ClowncoreisCool This! Not to mention, we've had dark angsty moments with ALL of the characters, even the flash of orange in Logan. I imagine Virgil's probably next. We didn't see him at ALL this episode, I find that extremely odd because Thomas was worried throughout the entire thing, and he was ANXIOUS about what was happening. So, Thomas is extremely anxious and worried yet...Virgil is nowhere to be found in the video except as a small hint in one of the mini-game scenes? That's odd, isn't it? That the embodiment of anxiety isn't around at a time where Thomas is extremely anxious?
Okay you love Janus and so do I and my friends are asleep so I'm gonna ramble here-
(what Roman said was understandable, he was feeling threatened and confused and lashed out defensively)
But okay THE FACE JANUS MADE when Roman mocked his name. Shock, hurt, and you could see his shields going back up and he lashed out to defend himself. POOR SNEKLING LOOKED SO HURT. And he did this for Thomas, too! He was giving them a reason to trust him SO HE COULD HELP THOMAS, making himself extremely vulnerable, and Roman just mocks him immediately! And he looked scared to say reveal his name too, he looked like he really didn't want to but had to for Thomas and then no one reacts positively! No one does anything but stare until Roman bursts into laughter and mocks him. And no one defends him either; he has to defend himself!
But on the bright side he looked so happy during the last bit, joking with Thomas, he really seemed extremely happy to be accepted. He was genuinely laughing! Genuinely smiling!
Caelin the Great Pretty Sure Roman was doing that because he heard Janice, like I did. I paused the video and laughed, before I saw that Roman did, because I thought it was a joke since it didn’t fit at all with Deceit. I haven’t heard of the god Janus and, knowing Roman, he probably hasn’t either. I don’t get why people talk down Roman when describe that scene because his reaction made sense and didn’t have intentional ill will to Janus. Janus was the one that lashed out because he assumed malice when there wasn’t any
@@Lilac_Lilith Not sure about that. Roman is named after Romulus, the mythical founder of Rome (he was also the twin of Remus, who he killed), the culture Janus belonged to. You'll notice as well that Roman perfectly prenouces Janus' name with "NUS" at the end rather than "NEECE". So I'm not convinced he's ignorant about that.
Roman and Remus only exist as seperate entities because Thomas segmented them off as "good inspiration" and "bad inspiration" as Logan puts it, which reflected his black and white ideas of good and evil. Thus Roman became the embodiment of everything "good" and Remus everything "bad". That's the saddest part, because as he is currently, Roman literally can't comprehend why they wouldn't treat the Dark Sides as something to be cast out or ignored. Because to him they're "evil", and he is "good". He had the same attitude towards Virgil to begin with. And it's because he was made that way.
Janus clearly doesn't trust easily, and him to expose something personal about himself was a big step and gesture of trust towards them. Couple that with the fact he implies Remus makes fun of him as well in a mean spirited way. Roman was completely in the wrong to react as he did. It was rude, thoughtless and hurtful. Even if Janus' name was "Janice" that would still be the case. But of course due to him ltierally being the "white/good" side of creativity, he can't understand why he shouldn't put Janus down. It's why he got so defensive at the idea of Janus telling Thomas to reconsider his beliefs, and why the only argument he could fall back on to reject what Janus was saying was "he's evil."
I get what your saying, but Roman still thought Janus was a "bad guy" and wanted the best for Thomas. When nobody listened to him, he laughed at Janus' name. Not because he didn't like the name, but because he didn't feel listen to. The reason Roman got so offended When Janus compared him to his brother was because Roman is creativity and trys to be his best self 110% of the time. he thrives off of compliments Of others. But he's EXTREMELY insecure, and when Janus made that comment and no one stood up for him that made him feel awful. Because he felt like he wasn't being his best self. Janus (and the others) can take criticism way better than Roman can. And Roman was also trying to protect Thomas from bad things because he's his "hero" (as Thomas said In his own words) and roman is probably angry at Janus' for impersonating 2 of his friends, and manipulating him. He was also really set back on the fact that Patton litterally sided with Janus, even though Patton HATES lying. He might have been scared that he was manipulated as well. This also made him think that Thomas was regularly going to lie to himself, and roman needed to protect Thomas from that. But when the one side of Thomas (Patton) accepted Janus, Roman new there wasn't any hope in trying to change Thomas Now i still get it wasn't right for Roman to laugh at Janus, but I'm just looking at Romans POV.
1) At 17:53 on the numbers Remus is saying "BOOBS" and virgil saying "LIMITED"
2) at 18:23 virgils text changes to "BEING LOST"
3) at 18:31 it changes again to "PORLY SPENT"
4) at 18:37 it changes lastly to "WASTED"
5) and at last at 27:39 at the health bar there are numbress 07734 if we revere this numbress and flip them they spell out "HELLO" and it's orange! New side meaby?
Also I'm not the first to find this! I saw this on tik tok and I fell in love at how precise and how much work Thomas poots in it I'm so proud of put gay prince!

Deceit being called Denial is like Thomas being (in part) in denail of what/who deceit really is/stands for.

Like he's not only about lies, as he does care for Thomas and isn't always/actually deceitfull.
Roman's reaction to Deceit becoming 'part of the group' or listened to is the same one he had with Virgil in the beginning. I hope that in the next episode him and Virgil (maybe along with deceit) will be able to talk it out. I guess it stems from Remus, everything he doesn't want to be: so the agression and harsh way he react to the dark sides is pretty much instilled in him.
I wonder, I (personally) think Logan was there and switched Deceit in... but was he actually deceit the whole time? I'm confused. (Because while watching the premiere everyone was like hahahhahaha yes, 'Logan' is there, saying he was deceit the whole time.) But! LOGAN TALKS WHILE DECEIT IS UP THERE. So he did bring Deceit in! I'm pretty sure I got it right.
It’s during the scene when the yellow skip all button appears where Deceit comes in, as the cane he uses later drags Logan away(along with it being yellow).

I can't stop thinking though about how Virgil wasn't in this video, and how Patton and Thomas (and maybe Logan a little) seem to have accepted Janus more, and how that sets up some conflict next episode with Virgil still disliking Janus. I have so many questions, many thoughts head full

Possibly. In his present state it's literally a case of "good cannot comprehend evil." Because Roman and Remus only exist due to Thomas making them the "good" and "bad" guy. However the Dark Sides were never evil to begin with, they were just differently focused. Janus for example is commited to moral actions and justice like Patton is, but his focus is on what is just and fair to Thomas, rather than other people.
If Roman and Remus are to ever be anything other than the extremes of good and bad, then they need to reform on single entity of creativity, who gives pleasant and morbid inspiration equally. Or at the very least reconnect and recognise that they're not destined to be so rigid in what they represent.

"Fear is an emotion we are all feeling." My anxiety side when I saw this episode yesterday.
Personal Headcanon / what I _want_ to happen:
I'd like to think that after this event, Logan will ask Janus to help Thomas go down the right road as he feels he isn't capable to guide him right now [feels like he's too intrusive and that no one likes to hear him talk/have him there] and having had time to think about Janus's points and motivations [being on the sidelines and all], thinks they have very similar views in that regard/how to go about it.
Janus will agree and from then on he will talk on behalf of both himself and Logan's side of view, even if they are contradicting/different, and he will even defend Logan if the situation ever arises.
That is because he has found that they are a lot more alike than he thought [similar to Logan's realization - perhaps having already started when Logan agreed with him in this video about Thomas's mental health], and that he finds that this agreement provides them with a common ground.
I swear I'm not a shipper for this fandom but Loceit - or should I say Lonus now? - sounds really good right now. And if we're going down the effective altruism route, with Janus taking the temporary role of the mind and with Patton being the heart, we could have some Moceit goodness. [or would it be Monus now? Panus? Jatton?]
Anyway, now that I have got this scenario in my head I desperately want it to be true. In fact, consider this a prompt fanfic writers, I wanna read this.

It was Logan right up to when Patton pressed skip all on his facts. When Patton skips you can see a cane pull Logan off screen, that is the same cane that Janus is holding when he shows himself.

I think it’s also likely that Virgil and Roman will join together to argue against including Janus at the table. Because in SvS Virgil acted a lot like Roman did in this episode; so desperate that the others see him as the bad guy and that he needed to be gotten rid of. So I think next episode it’ll be Virgil and Roman against all the others because everyone else has accepted Janus (Remus I’d guess wouldn’t take sides because well- Remus- I’m not sure that he’d really care about all this stuff going on. He probably just likes the turmoil because it makes his influence on Thomas stronger).
I really hope Roman is okay :( and Logan also was upset that no one noticed he was impersonated, and he even said the others didn’t care if he was there anyway. Poor guy… and of course hopefully Virgil is doing alright and coming to understand that Thomas accepts him even as a former dark side. And Patton and Thomas had it rough in this episode too but it looks like they’ve recovered a bit.

Don’t worry friend, I wanted to chose this option as well.
We may have had a hint for a new side as well. During the video game segments each of the Side's responses to something is colour coded; Patton and Logan blue, Virgil purple, Roman red, Janus yellow, Remus green. At one point during the castle and prince metaphor there's green text in the corner that says 80085. The classic number version of the word "Boobs". However at the fighting/soup kitchen part there's an 8th colour, orange. And the it says "07734". In the letters that translates to "Hello" backwards. At the RPG part Thomas has a move called "Blinding Rage", and this text shows up during a game version of Thomas who's quite aggressive. On top of that at the start of the episode Thomas is pretty pissed off. So I think we've got a good guess what the next Side is, and I don't think he's gonna hold his punches.
Also, notice how Janus starts actually acting like the other side of Morality towards the end? Patton's premises have always been pretty black and white, with little room for consideration of mitigating factors, until Janus starts proposing those said factors. At which point Patton starts considering them as well. Thomas needs the snake boi ; - ;
It really does reflect how Thomas, the character, was brought up with very strong ideas about right and wrong, which is why the Dark Sides were demonised and rejected to begin with, despite the fact they were never evil.
I feel so bad for Logan. The way he says “not that any of you care, but I am unharmed. I just have one more fact to state and then I will do you all a favor and spare you my company.” (Or something like that.) Poor guy thinks the others don’t care about him or his wellbeing at all. But you could clearly see the concern on all of their faces! And you can see a slight second of relief on Patton’s face when Logan shows up, completely fine, but you quickly see that look of relief fade into a look of concern when Logan starts his sentence with “not that any of you care” 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Janus and Patton are the cutest! They are going to be the best of friends!
I honestly think that Janus is the perfect “other half” of Patton. Like when he said that he needed someone else in the car to help drive to the correct destination, I think the perfect side to be in the car with him would be Janus.
Janus balances him out so perfectly! He’s a sly, smart and sophisticated and puts Thomas’s safety first! Where Patton is all about feelings and what is the morally correct choice, and he’s basically a bouncing puppy that (usually) wears his emotions on his sleeves.

I’m just going to throw this theory into the comments. There’s a blank slot in the character section. The answer is pretty obvious. There are three Light Sides: Logan, Roman, and Patton. The three Dark Sides: Janus, Remus, and Virgil. Janus is the opposite of Patton because deceiving people is the opposite of being mindful of morals. Remus is the opposite of Roman because he’s the other side of creativity. Virgil is the opposite of Logan because he isn’t just anxiety, he’s paranoia. Paranoia is being anxious with no reason and logic. Thomas is technically a Light Side because he does his best to be good and the last Dark Side is everything that he doesn’t want to be.
When you’re too scared of rewatched the episode again alone so you watch reaction videos.

18:17 Cake is a slang term for, as Patton would call it, your butt or "b-hole", typically used for someone with a nice butt, here it would have a sexual connotation. Which is why Thomas wants Roman to check his phrasing. I think it is especially funny because of Roman's reaction, like he is offended that Thomas would think of that meaning. I mean really, Roman, did you doubt your brother wouldn't make Thomas think of it? Also, when Leslie is going to present the prize he turns his back on the camera as if he is about to present the other cake before bringing out the baked cake.

So lots of spoilers and theories beyond this point, and apologies on it being really long.
I think deceit is only a part of Janus, he seems to just be the embodiment of self preservation. When he lies or wants Thomas to lie, it’s to protect Thomas’s feelings or wellbeing (lying to lee and Mary lee would protect Thomas from rejection and let him do something he would really enjoy. While he was disguised as Logan this episode he actually came out with some really good information, that was factual and helped) but when Thomas needed the truth for his well-being, he gave it to him.
When Patton was feeling depressed and worthless and needed to hear otherwise, Janus’s instinct was to be sarcastic but by his facial expressions you can see his hesitation but he reeled it in and comforted Patton with truth. They interacted well with each other at the end after Patton accepted Janus as a part of Thomas.
I don’t think he lied to Roman when he nodded after Thomas said Roman was his hero, because it was something Roman needed to hear. But because Roman only sees Janus as deceit and “evil” he believes that everything he says and does is a lie. And when he made fun of Janus immediately after he made himself vulnerable, the self preservation kicked in and he lashed out.
His interactions with the rest of the sides is in direct correlation with how the others see him. Patton respected Janus when he called him out and the relationship between them instantly got more friendly, Thomas and Janus started to banter back and forth after He was accepted as a part of Thomas’s personality. I think Logan and Janus are a bit more neutral, edging on unfriendly but Logan sees the value in Virgil and Remus from an objective standpoint, and I’m willing to bet he’ll do the same with Janus.
Virgil doesn’t like Janus and Remus because they’re reminders of when he was (we think) “paranoia” -a part of his past that he hates more than anything.
As soon as the dark sides are more visible and can be looked at objectively, each of their individual contributions are examined and can be seen as helpful, they shift.
Even Remus, our hilarious trash panda.
Thomas is able to recognize that Remus’s contributions are a part of him, and is able to recognize that a lot of it is intrusive thoughts. And in the videos since his debut, Thomas and the sides are able to handle Remus and acknowledge that a lot of it is just any and all random chaotic thoughts, that can be put aside or dealt with head on. Remus highlights parts of Thomas he doesn’t like and (however indirectly) gives Thomas the opportunity to grow as a person.

Don't know how well versed you are in mythology. But Janus is a two faced roman god, the name is actually extreamly fitting.
I loved this episode so much since I loved Janus so much I was extremely happy to see him get redemption

Go back to the little minigame sections and look in the top corners, in the Mario parody there is a score and a time limit, the time limit is purple, and says things like "Time: Wasted" "Time: Not Well Spent", who do we know that likes purple and makes Thomas anxious

Ok I just realized something, ya know how all the light sides have their names ending with "n" (except Virgil but I'll talk about this in a sec) well with Jenus and Remus we can speculate that the mysterious dark side that hasn't been revealed yet will have "us" at the end of his name too, if that's so, Virgil will be the one with the most different name, that might symbolize he's not a dark nor light side, he's in the middle
There's a theory that Virgil's full name is virgilius and that's why he's been so secretive about his name,,,,
