I have every piece in the elevated 2 white tail line Except the incinerator bibs and jacket.
Hands down, best hunting gear I’ve worn in the last 30 years of bow hunting.
    Keeps me concealed
    Keep me warm.
Keeps me in Treestand longer on those extreme cold hunts.
I’d say I wear the Stratus bibs and jacket and Fanatic Hoody more than any other piece.
I only wear the Fanatic bibs and jacket when temps are down in the low teens and below.
    I’m 5’10
    210 lbs
I wear size XL in everything
    Zero issues bow hunting

Thinking about buying stika but they are very expensive. Back a few years ago when I was a Driver/garbage picker, I picked up a orange mossy oak jacket at walmart for work. ill tell you I stayed 100% warm and dry everyday. Think I paid about $40/$60 for it.. cant recall the exact price.

Have you caved yet and picked up some Sitka gear? I splurged and got mine last year. Worth every cent! I also picked up some gear from Huntworth. I use my Huntworth gear for turkey hunting and early season whitetail. The quality of Huntworth is top of the line for cheaper gear but doesn't compare to Sitka. Whatever you can afford. I use those two. Good luck out there!

To each their own but I can't wrap my head around how your setup is any better than cheaper camo. I also live in indiana. I sit on a 5 gallon bucket under a tree and have worn army surplus camo or solid earth tone clothes (cargo pants, wool anorak, etc). Deer can't tell the difference between what you wear and what I wear.

I work out doors for a living, year round. Temps regularly hit single digits and negative temps in the winter and I wear cotton. It's worked for 17 years and I've yet to get frost bite or hypothermia. I don't find it restricting at all. Deer hunting is far less taxing than work. So my comment stands. Like I said though. To each their own.

You may have already answered this. You spoke briefly on the base layers, but do u have a problem with sweating in the base layers? Also to they wick quickly and help you stay warm. I have been seriously contemplating spending the money on the base layers. I am tired of walking deep in the woods and freezing because I have been sweating. Thanks brother great video !

    • @HoosierHunter
      @HoosierHunter  4 роки тому +2

No, as long as I do it right, I don't have any problem sweating. I dress as light as possible on my walks in. They do a great job of wicking away the sweat if I do get too hot on the hike in. I have been happy with using these over the last several years. Dress light on the walk in, take some breaks and use these with confidence. Appreciate you watching buddy!

I was debating exchanging the stratus jacket LT to XLT, although i wear everything else in LT. I am 6'-5" about 200lbs and the LT fits fine over my base layers with the fanatic hoodie, but there is zero room for additional layering beyond that (ie equinox hoodie or midi jacket). Interesting to see you went with a large fanatic vest though, do you wish you went with XL to fit over the stratus jacket or do you think that is a good combination the way you have it?

Should I get an xl in the fanatic vest? @Pitt Burgh While I certainly agree that the Sitka brand is expensive, the truth is that it works extremely well from the standpoint of design by keeping you warm all day without being super bulky - nice system to have when you are moving around during the hunt! I will use this analogy as well - its like shooting all day with a Beretta a400 extreme shotgun versus an inexpensive shotgun, they both will bring down the game but with the Beretta having a huge recoil reduction this gives you a much different & enjoyable experience! Buy the Sitka gear on sale after the season and buy the best gear that you can afford - like everything in life, some things are just better not necessarily a rip-off!!

The stuff is severely overpriced. Mostly made of polyester and spandex just like the stuff from Walmart. Also likely made in the same sweat shops in China. Look it up. You were sold on the marketing and the "system". Literally still layering just like before. Traditional bow hunting podcast has a video on why buy hunting clothes from Walmart. It has very valid points. After some research you will understand that you are swept up in the marketing and then try to justify way overspending on the same materials you get from Walmart. It's called conformation bias. Example; KUIU 93% polyester 7% spandex hoodie is $80. Gilden brand 93% polyester 7% spandex hoodie $12. Paying for the fancy name. Plenty of cups out there that do what a Yeti does, but people want or need that name on the side. It's Gucci Camo. That being said, great video and thorough review. Well presented.

@@Wiscobowhunt That's the thing. If you believe their million dollar marketing team then sure there is more to it. I'm not saying it's bad or against it. I'm saying it is overpriced. Literally the same things are out there made of the same materials for a fraction of the price. The reason being is it doesn't have Sitka printed or stitched to it. Just like a Yeti. Plenty of cups out there does what a yeti does at a fraction of the cost. But these companies know with the right marketing and "influencers" behind their product people will pay any price. It's just over priced. I like to use my old military gear. Any decent surplus store you can find top rate base layers, mid weight and water proof camo. And will be HUNDREDS less than Shitka.

Maybe it's just me but Sitka's polygene does not work for me.
I prefer wool base layers otherwise I stink before I get to my to my treestand. Your set up is extremely expensive (too expensive). I am a fellow Hoosier at the North end of the State (not sure where you are). Also got burrs to worry about.
Most people think that they need to spend a bunch for deer hunting. Military surpplus pants and jacket work if you want camo. From my experience that high end stuff ain't worth the price, I still get cold with that fancy stuff and I keep going back to my broke in Carhartts when it gets cold (for late November, December and January it's just as quite as that fanatic fleece). Tried that fanatic stuff last winter sent it back it ain't warm enough, I think it needed a hoody (might help). Sure without camo you don't have that 'cool' factor. That neck gaiter (had it gave it to a friend and he gave it back said it was worthless) would be better if it had windstopper. Cut the top of Carhartt hat and use that works better much cheaper. That gtx incenerator hat ain't warm with its berber fleece ( I know had it gave it away). My Carhartt stocking cap is way better.
Wool base layer, cotton shirt and fleece lined pants, down jacket and a fleece pullover top will get you to mid 30s. Add Carhartt bibs and coat to get down to 0.
For Western hunting Sitka and other mountain hunting companies make decent gear for deer hunting it's overrated and over priced.

Aaron Wilder I love it all and it works for me. To each their own. I didn’t pay full price for any piece by a long shot. Almost all 40-50% of full cost. Great stuff!! 👍

Glad to hear you didn't pay full price for stuff. 👍👍
If you're satisfied with it then I guess it's worth it to to you.
I would be less critical of the stuff if it wasn't made in China for the price that they charge.
I mean if I am paying for an item made in China I expect to pay a whole lot less not more.
      But to each their own.
I just hate to see people blow their hard earned money on stuff when there are cheaper options available.
I got a few things for Western hunting from Sitka heavily discounted (non camo so I can wear it every day). And for what I paid I am happy with it. Picked up the Jetstream jacket and a Puffy jacket for $75, I think that is closer to a fair price for those items. 👍
It's opening day tomorrow best of luck and happy hunting!

Excellent video. Sitka, huh? If I knew then what I know now, I would never have bought the incinerator jacket. Nothing in that jacket is worth $600. I've worn it twice and wish I could get rid of it! I'm 5' 7 at 155 pounds. Think I the medium would be perfect...NOT! Thing is to short even for me! Sleeve are to tight and most of the down shifts to the top of the arms leaving cold spots on the other side. $600. Oiy Vay! Next the jacket makes all kinds of unnatural noses when brush rubs against it! And it is only a walking sleeping bag when you are walking. Things I like: It is waterproof and of course windproof and it is relatively light weight. Don't buy into the sitka marketing scam. Their claims on this jacket, exaggerated to say the least. And customer service, you are SOL if you hate the it and want to return it. You only can if it's brand new so how the hell are you going to find out if it works? Sorry. Thanks for the $600. Have a nice life.
