Turning the tables on this special episode of Table Talk with Jo where Nidhi Razdan takes over the seat as the anchor. She interviews editor and veteran journalist Chander Mohan and Jyotsna Mohan on their new book, Pratap A Defiant Newspaper.
Based on the family newspaper, the iconic Urdu Pratap, launched in Lahore just days before the Jallianwala massacre, the book also chronicles the life of the founder’s son Virendra who once walked shoulder to shoulder with stalwarts like Bhagat Singh. The pen picked up by Virendra later as the editor of Pratap and its Hindi sister Vir Pratap was equally fearless despite threats by the colonial government, Indira Gandhi’s Emergency and a parcel bomb sent to Pratap's office during terrorism in Punjab.
In poet Gulzar's words, " Pratap was like a freedom flag in the battle for independence. It was respected like the conscience of India."

Heart touching..How beautifully Mr. Mohan spoke about spreading love and ending the hatred, even after being a victim of it. And being courageous enough to speak truth in difficult times. Salute to Chander Mohan ji and Jyotsna … think first read about Pratap in the Bipin Chandra edited book on the freedom struggle … also, have always wondered at the lack of dislike and general rancour among the people of Punjab and Bengal for those across the border, two provinces most impacted by partition and where nearly all families directly suffered in some way.

Thanks for this book … my grand father Mr. Charan Das puri was close friend in Mahashya Krishan ji … he lost his eyes in his last days and I used to read aloud to him.

Bengal & Punjab had so much of commonalities during the freedom struggle and as a Bengali, we have great respect for Bhagat Singh. But the current regime is trying to erase the name of those legends and making an effort in portraying the coward ( read Savarkar) as a larger than life image.

@jyotsnamohanbhargava6949 surely, l will read the book. I am now 62 and when Mr. Mohan mentioned an incident where the barber went to shave off the head and almost broke down, it really brought tears to my eyes, even at this age.
