I have learned Apple has a bucket of new features, which they release slowly every product release, to entice you to upgrade. @@Spangeeplays Samsung burned me also with their exynos lol, they only do the snapdragon in the ultra version (s23 onwards) in the UK. So the s25 ultra may entice me. I use the base iPhone 15 but it’s a tool for me, and won’t upgrade until it no longer serves its purpose.
It's not a flop if you don't update every year and wait 3 years... quit setting the expectation to upgrade every year. I went from a 13 to the 16 and love it.
I'm using the iPhone 13 Pro Max and there is nothing on this phone I wish was better. If I can get another two or three years out of this "old phone," I'll be happy!
I'm on an iPhone 13 Pro and think there's enough difference to warrant an upgrade. The problem is that I really prefer how my 13 Pro looks vs what's available for the 16 Pro. If I wait, I'll likely skip the 17 as well and wait for the 18.
I traded in my 13 Pro and mostly satisfied, new button is kinda useless but overall it's a good phone. Probably go for a change if 17 is giving us lots of new features but I kinda like 4-5 year period when getting a new one. Updating if you own newer model than 13 Pro is pointless.
Coming from an iP15 Pro user, if you still have the 13 Pro, there’s no reason for you to upgrade. Dynamic Island and the Action button are just gimmicky and no real world use. I’m assuming it’s the same with the 16 Pro.
The whole Apple event unveiling the new iPhones was called 'It's Glowtime.' And yet a month later, Siri on my iPhone still doesn't glow lol. At a minimum, that should have been a day one feature.
I literally use the same mid-range ANDROID phone from 2018, and it gets the job done fine. OLED 6.7 screen? Check Responsiveness? Check Free Spotify and UA-cam with an APK? Check 5,000 Battery? Check USB C? Check Whatsapp? Check I literally spent $250 six years ago for a perfectly fine phone that gets the job done PERFECTLY FINE TODAY.
I'm still using an iPhone 6S. Amazingly the apps I use are still supporting it and until they don't, not in a rush to upgrade. But if it died in the next few months, I'd still just look at getting the iPhone 15 or maybe the new SE if it's released in the spring.
I just got the 16 coming from a 13 with some charging and little other issues. So having a usb-c and no more lighting cable for me is already a massive improvement. I see a 16 just as a new phone with no issue pretty similar to my previous 13 (traded in).
After 4 years with the iPhone 12 base model it was time for an upgrade, My phone was glitchy and starting to lose its battery life fast. I will use my 16 for another 4 years, then upgrade again once this one hits the bag

My 3 year old iPhone 13 Pro was suddenly losing battery health, it had little scratches all over the screen and a couple of small dings around the edges. I still got £270 trade in for a 16 pro with interest free credit. For that I get all the updates of the last 3 years, the most significant being USB-C, 5x zoom lens, Action button which handles a really useful shortcut and a much brighter screen. And no 60hz refresh rate, which is the main reason I can’t go back to standard iPhones.
and the AOD helps me a lot ,i used to have it years ago when i had an android phone pixel 2XL and glad is on apple phones too now (a bit late in a way tho )
Upgraded from 14 pro max to 16 pro max. I definitely notice the smaller bezels, bigger screen, and slightly different body style. I’ve been enjoying it and I’m really excited for AI, I don’t mind to wait as long as can polish up what they have ready and have it work almost perfectly. I’m happy with mine.
2:03 iPhone 13 mini user here. It's a great phone. I likely won't be upgrading until they make another similarly sized iPhone because the 16 feels too big. My ideal iPhone would be the size of the iPhone 5. If they made an iPhone with all the features of the current models in a package the size of the iPhone 5, I'd snap that up.
My 3 year old 13 mini started showing multiple horizontal lines today. Just unusable. Always used original accessories to charge. Now it’s just a paperweight bcz Apple is charging 300 buck to repair something that their update created.
This video makes no sense. If anything, the standard models have caught up too much with the pro models. The gap between standard and “pro” feels smaller than ever. This is the first time an iPhone cycle has made me feel like the standard version is actually more attractive than a pro model, and most major media outlets and content creators report that sentiment.
I consider myself a tech nerd who knows every tiny detail about a new phone and i'm still holding onto a regular iPhone 12. Granted, i planned on upgrading this year, but Apple really failed to convince me, so I'll hold out for the 17 and get it without a second thought.
I keep my phone between 4 and 6 years each. Right now I have a 12 pro max and it's beginning to lose battery life so I'm considering the 16. have to wait and see.

The idea "Is it a flop and should I avoid it" is silly. Is it a bad phone and should I avoid it is a totally valid question. But whether or not others are buying it has nothing to do with whether or not it's a good upgrade. Personally, I got the 16 Pro and love it. But not having even the initial Apple Intelligence features is a bummer.
You might be right about the reasons for the iPhone 16 sales, but I can’t help but think that the UA-camrs are partly responsible for they keep banging on about wait for the iPhone 17 with its rumoured supposedly new design and thinness and this is was even before the iPhone 16 lineup had came out and in some cases a few months before they were due to be released.
Automobiles, Refrigerators. Washer and dryers. Televisions. And now… smartphones. All of these products, and more, come out with a new version every year. And then, when necessary, there’s a drastic redesign. NOBODY, and I mean, NOBODY, buys a fridge, car, TV every year when the new model comes out. And FOR A LONG TIME now, smartphones have been in the same category. I’m a tech nerd, so I upgrade more than most. But is the 16 an improvement from the 15? YES! Does it compel tech nerds to upgrade from the 15? If you’re like me, yes (I pay $150-$300 for a new phone because I sell my old one, one year later - no trade-in for the rip-off, only eBay or direct sale, no carrier crap, no installments, I pay outright and sell the old one). But no one buys a new car every year, no one buys a new TV every year and the MAJORITY don’t buy a new phone every year. So is the 16 a flop? Not if you’re coming from a 11, 12, 13 or 14. Only tech UA-camrs spread this garbage to make money.
My iPhone upgrade happens every two or three years, but this one is the most significant yet by far, I would say ever for me. There are many firsts for me with my iPhone 16, the very first time I get a brand new, just launched iPhone after it very recently hit the market, my largest iPhone yet, the very first Face ID, gesture-based, full screen iPhone, largest iPhone battery and the most RAM I've ever had, and of course, all the soon to come features, that soon to come part is also disappointing for me. But as far as my general opinion of this device is concern, I think it exceeded my expectations in pretty much every way possible except for still not polished enough software. Great battery life, great speed boost, less app refreshing issues, Face ID and all the gestures along with the side button playing more role in my day to day iPhone operation are all easy to get use to, and the larger more immersive speakers, very important for blind individuals like myself. And I'm coming from an iPhone SE 3 as well, so you can understand now how big of a deal this is for me along with all the above-mentioned factors. The iPhone 16 is definitely a huge advancement for me and I love it a lot. Although I would agree that if you already have any of the iPhone 15 series models, or even the 14, upgrading won't be a smart move unless you really value what Apple Intelligence will be bringing to the table, and would like to future-proof yourself if it even make sense to do so.
I just got a 15 pro max for 10 buck a month for 36 months at Verizon. Its no wonder 16 as a whole is struggling when 15 pros are being blown out the door.
Is the market for those upgrading yearly really that high? I go two years before an upgrade. Then, my son gets the old one and uses it for another two. Then, my husband gets it! These phones last 6 years. Actually just replaced the screen and battery in the 12 pro my husband uses, it will last as long as that new battery lasts, probably 4 more years.
I bought an android with 120hz screen oled, now when i use the 60 hz on iphone, its too choppy and unusable. I suggest users to upgrade to android 120hz if you dont have money for pro. You wont regret and never go back.
Are you serious? iPhone 16 is a huge upgrade over 13. Also, Pro phones have great telephoto lenses, Promotion 120hz and Always On. They also have much faster USB C. Visual Intelligence is coming THIS year. I think iOS 18.2 in December will make a big case for Apple Intelligence. And yes, I upgraded to a 16 Pro Max.
If you’re switching every year, it’s gonna seem like a minimal upgrade. But if you’re coming from a iPhone 12 or older, it’s a huge upgrade. The iPhone 16 is a solid upgrade for anyone who has a iPhone 13 or older.
I upgraded to a 16 PM for battery, USB-C and Camera but I really thought many people would just get the regular 16 unless they had to have what you note. If I didn't want the new video mode and battery I would have gotten the 16 simply for the color, lol!
I just upgraded from my iPhone 14 mainly because I wanted USB C. I was going to get a 15 to save money but ATT is running a promotion where the 16 is actually cheaper than the 15 so I went for the black 256GB version.

I upgraded to a 16Pro from my 12Mini and I"m so happy with my device. I'm loving the 2000nits outdoors, my 12mini was so dim. And I haven't noticed the screen dimming from overheating, so the improved heat dissipation has really made a difference in my use. It is kinda heavy compared with my 12mini, but I'm getting used to that (it's been 2wks).
I went from IPhone 15ProMax to 16Pro… Love being back to a smaller phone but having all the camera features that were not in the 15Pro. So I am happy with the 16Pro. In saying this I tend to agree that the 16 line is mineable change to the 15Pro. My partner had a IPhone 12pro and I got her too the 16Pro and she loves it. Speed… Camera…. Features…. etc…
I know of a big company that is upgrading the phones for employees from Iphone 8 to Iphone 14 (no pro) right now. Companies and governmental agencies are afraid of how AI even hosted by Apple may steal confidential company owned information and data from the phones of their employees - this does not get covered by YT channels that are so focused on consumer and private end uses of these devices.
@@princessadora I am not sure if a company can do that and over-ride the menu to not allow employees access. Since they do not know all the implications some of these companies just choose to study it, kick the can and buy phones without the AI capabilities and prevent apps from 3rd parties being installed.
I came from an iPhone SE (3rd Gen) and the 16 feels like a big upgrade to me. It’s faster, the larger screen size is great and I love the major improvement in the photo quality and camera control functions.
I had a XR long back. Used it till 2022, and shifted to Android just cause my old Macbook Air (2015) gave up. Traded up 3 Androids from 2022 to 2024, but no amount of change would bring the happy smile back. Pulled the trigger on an iPhone 16 (512) 2 weeks ago and I am all smiling again. Now I wait for iPhone 19 before considering any upgrade. Happy 3 years ahead.
Funnily enough I still have my 13 and it’s currently at 87% battery health, I’m somewhat tempted to get a 16 pro soon and then it’s looking like I won’t upgrade for years to come. At this point the phones aren’t upgrades of past generations, more like a coat of new paint.
Good video. Am a casual user and am of the mindset that I replace life expired devices rather than upgrading from a good one. I think you hit most of the points. I would say I am not excited about AI, I really don't see how it would make my life easier, not saying I won't use it one day but ...Apple kind of "Osborned" the iPhone 16 by marketing it as built from the ground up for AI when it's not ready yet. I think the issue is that phones are now mature devices and honestly my iPhone 14 Pro is really good at what I need it for and every day I find even more uses.

I’m on a 2 year upgrade. I am happy to finally have ProRes 4K shooting directly to my USB C external. With my old iPhone 14 Pro I could only do ProRes in 1080 and no USB C 📱
the iphones arent holding as much value i feel like. i bought my 12 pro for $2100 and listed it for sale $750-850 and offered it at auction for $650. i couldnt sell it and tried many times. a big reseller selling them for 650 as well (poorer condition than mine without known histories). mine is in mint condition so feeling gutted. phone company offering $497 for trade in so i'll probably go that route.
I think it would’ve been better if they released the phone and the Apple Intelligence features at the same time. I think the phones will eventually sell like hotcakes when all of the advanced features drop
I purchased a pro and returned it at the end of two weeks and then brought a second hand 13 mini. Can't justify the cost, and it was just too big - all the convenience of having usb C, an action button, etc was canceled out by the inconvenience of its size. The 13 mini has been a very good update to my gen 1 SE.

Android users are broke I really want an iPhone but they can’t afford one so they have to settle for Google spying on them with lacklustre app quality and inferior versions to the iOS counterparts. Android phones also lose value and depreciate way quicker than an iPhone and also iPhones have far better privacy.
I have a 13, and it is still holding up. Would I like to upgrade? Yes. Do I have money? No. The carrier deals would be beneficial to help, but still the initial costs are a bit much. I would like the 16 pro, because I am an intermediate photographer and would like the macro option and higher quality pics.
I have an iPhone 13 and it’s fine, it gets the job done. I’m taking it to Apple and see what I can do about my battery not functioning properly. But I got AppleCare+ so hopefully they give me a new battery. If they do that, I’ll be happy. I worked extra hours so I got the $1,200 for the Pro Max but if I can squeeze out another year out this phone I’ll just wait for the 17 next year. The iPhone Pros have all pretty much looked the same and too similar for me to spend that much money on it.
I’d generally agree with all this. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a year where almost all the marketed features don’t come on the new phone at launch. By the time the new Siri and all the AI features are available, we’ll be gearing up for iOS 19 betas and dubdub. Ridiculous.
Another reason to pick the 16 Pros over the base 16 is the usb c transfer speeds. 480Mb/s on the base 16 vs 10Gb/s on the Pros. Huge difference if you're backing up photos/videos to an external ssd.
I have one 14 pro max. I was about to switch to 16 and then I learnt that Apple Intelligence will not rollout in any EU territory and also I would lose the always on features and losing features when you change the phone to a higher version really sucks. The other option is to pay 250 euros more in the 16 pro just for keeping always on and that’s definitely far from a good deal.
The 16 is horrible having a premium phone with a 60Htz screen is criminal. My wife got it and the judder when scrolling any webpage makes it unusable. She got the Pro and is much happier.
biggest reason i'm getting 16 pro over 16 is style. i like the 3 camera look and the shade of white looks brighter. i have a 15 because pink but i'm upgrading my 12 pro.
My wife has an 11, I have a 12 pro. Had both batteries replaced a couple years ago. Besides the cost of the phones I will need to buy new usb-c chargers and cables for the house and cars. I heard using a low powered usb-a charger can prematurely degrade the battery. Maybe a sales gimmick. We will never use all the new features. Will probably wait until new batteries needed or software not supported.

I got the new one as I do every year and I feel underwhelmed. They released it and don’t even really have AI functionality in it. Once it gets the AI I might think differently
I thought the switch from a 14PM to a 15PM was a really worthy upgrade. It was much lighter, because of the titanium, had a nice finish, slightly nicer shape and had that great 5x zoom. This year, there ain’t much reason to upgrade. New photographic styles? Why can’t that be on older devices? That’s just Apple’s cynical marketing. Also, on the 60hz refresh rate, they apparently cap the Pro screens at 80hz anyway!
Most of the excitement lately is not in hardware specs but software specs. Reputable camera experts note that the Iphone spec bumps are not any better than prior models (see Tony Northrup). What is irritating to me is therefore why get the 16 when the best feature AI , is not rolling out until November with not all features coming after that? Why not wait for the 17 when AI is finally backed into the software. Apple has done this with other OS improvements (not releasing until well after new model launches). - Remmember the days when everything was released that they promised for that cycle in September of each year?

Here’s a thought: with the dwindling of differences between the mainstream vs Pro iPhones in the last couple of releases, perhaps it’s time for Apple to streamline the iPhone lineup and retire the Pro models to concentrate on just the main iPhone (with different colors and sizes). For those who need the additional “Pro features” like the additional camera, LIDAR, 4K/slo-mo, …, etc, such features could be offered in an optional clip-on/MagSafe accessory with its own SD-card storage that could double up as a power/data bank. Better yet, such an accessory could be developed with an established camera/accessory maker. The company could then concentrate on a single line of iPhones - even experiment with potential meaningful models such as future SEs (as usual based on previous designs powered by current processors), foldable units (although I for one don’t see a need for one?), … But plz: not the rumored “Air” model!
The phone is following the computer/laptop market. The form factor is mostly set (save for foldable), cameras are good enough for decent photos/videos, screens are good enough for most day to day tasks and use cases, internal hardware improvements are imperceptible by 99% of users. Unless something new comes along the phone isn’t going to be revolutionary like the original iPhone and the few following generation were.

These are not flops. They will still sell tens of millions. Even though they will sell less than last year, it will sell a lot. Flop from an investor standpoint, yes but not a bad phone at all. And the cheaper versions will sell less because iPhone users keep their phones a long time so when they upgrade many people get the best versions. It's the same now with Galaxy users. Phones have gotten really good. There is no such thing as a bad phone
"Run iPhone 13 into the ground". Hmmm... I'm running an iPhone 12 Pro Max, and it works very well. I don't feel like I'm running it into the ground. SoC performance is not an issue at all. The main reason I'd upgrade to the iPhone 17 Pro Max next year is because it'd be nice to have a new camera setup. I'd pass the 12 Pro Max down to my kid, although I'd consider getting the battery replaced by then. (So far the battery hasn't been an issue for me, but a refreshed battery would extend that phone's life by several more years.)
The Apple intelligence features only available on the new iPhones and last year’s iPhone 15 Pro models are going to be revolutionary. As the months go by, that device will reward you with more and more new capabilities.

It's worth upgrading from my iPhone X. However, most UA-camrs are reviewing the Pro models to encourage potential buyers. That's annoying.
My 3 year old iPhone 13 Pro was suddenly losing battery health, it had little scratches all over the screen and a couple of small dings around the edges. I still got £270 trade in for a 16 pro with interest free credit. For that I get all the updates of the last 3 years, the most significant being USB-C, 5x zoom lens, Action button which handles a really useful shortcut and a much brighter screen. And no 60hz refresh rate, which is the main reason I can’t go back to standard iPhones.
and the AOD helps me a lot ,i used to have it years ago when i had an android phone pixel 2XL and glad is on apple phones too now (a bit late in a way tho )
Upgraded from 14 pro max to 16 pro max. I definitely notice the smaller bezels, bigger screen, and slightly different body style. I’ve been enjoying it and I’m really excited for AI, I don’t mind to wait as long as can polish up what they have ready and have it work almost perfectly. I’m happy with mine.

My ideal iPhone would be the size of the iPhone 5. If they made an iPhone with all the features of the current models in a package the size of the iPhone 5, I'd snap that up.
My 3 year old 13 mini started showing multiple horizontal lines today. Just unusable. Always used original accessories to charge. Now it’s just a paperweight bcz Apple is charging 300 buck to repair something that their update created.

This video makes no sense. If anything, the standard models have caught up too much with the pro models. The gap between standard and “pro” feels smaller than ever. This is the first time an iPhone cycle has made me feel like the standard version is actually more attractive than a pro model, and most major media outlets and content creators report that sentiment.
With the 16 coming out , 15 models dropped price and picked up a 15 plus … more then happy and will wait 2 or 3 years until I purchase a new one .

I consider myself a tech nerd who knows every tiny detail about a new phone and i'm still holding onto a regular iPhone 12. Granted, i planned on upgrading this year, but Apple really failed to convince me, so I'll hold out for the 17 and get it without a second thought.

I keep my phone between 4 and 6 years each. Right now I have a 12 pro max and it's beginning to lose battery life so I'm considering the 16. have to wait and see.

The idea "Is it a flop and should I avoid it" is silly. Is it a bad phone and should I avoid it is a totally valid question. But whether or not others are buying it has nothing to do with whether or not it's a good upgrade. Personally, I got the 16 Pro and love it. But not having even the initial Apple Intelligence features is a bummer.
You might be right about the reasons for the iPhone 16 sales, but I can’t help but think that the UA-camrs are partly responsible for they keep banging on about wait for the iPhone 17 with its rumoured supposedly new design and thinness and this is was even before the iPhone 16 lineup had came out and in some cases a few months before they were due to be released.
Automobiles, Refrigerators. Washer and dryers. Televisions. And now… smartphones. All of these products, and more, come out with a new version every year. And then, when necessary, there’s a drastic redesign. NOBODY, and I mean, NOBODY, buys a fridge, car, TV every year when the new model comes out. And FOR A LONG TIME now, smartphones have been in the same category. I’m a tech nerd, so I upgrade more than most. But is the 16 an improvement from the 15? YES! Does it compel tech nerds to upgrade from the 15? If you’re like me, yes (I pay $150-$300 for a new phone because I sell my old one, one year later - no trade-in for the rip-off, only eBay or direct sale, no carrier crap, no installments, I pay outright and sell the old one). But no one buys a new car every year, no one buys a new TV every year and the MAJORITY don’t buy a new phone every year. So is the 16 a flop? Not if you’re coming from a 11, 12, 13 or 14. Only tech UA-camrs spread this garbage to make money.

I just bought my wife a iPhone 16 standard. She has been using a flip phone for years so she doesn't need a pro.
My iPhone upgrade happens every two or three years, but this one is the most significant yet by far, I would say ever for me. There are many firsts for me with my iPhone 16, the very first time I get a brand new, just launched iPhone after it very recently hit the market, my largest iPhone yet, the very first Face ID, gesture-based, full screen iPhone, largest iPhone battery and the most RAM I've ever had, and of course, all the soon to come features, that soon to come part is also disappointing for me.
But as far as my general opinion of this device is concern, I think it exceeded my expectations in pretty much every way possible except for still not polished enough software. Great battery life, great speed boost, less app refreshing issues, Face ID and all the gestures along with the side button playing more role in my day to day iPhone operation are all easy to get use to, and the larger more immersive speakers, very important for blind individuals like myself.
And I'm coming from an iPhone SE 3 as well, so you can understand now how big of a deal this is for me along with all the above-mentioned factors. The iPhone 16 is definitely a huge advancement for me and I love it a lot.
Although I would agree that if you already have any of the iPhone 15 series models, or even the 14, upgrading won't be a smart move unless you really value what Apple Intelligence will be bringing to the table, and would like to future-proof yourself if it even make sense to do so.
I just got a 15 pro max for 10 buck a month for 36 months at Verizon. Its no wonder 16 as a whole is struggling when 15 pros are being blown out the door.
After getting the 16 Pro Max this year, this would be my last time upgrading every two years. I will keep using it until I get no more updates.
Is the market for those upgrading yearly really that high? I go two years before an upgrade. Then, my son gets the old one and uses it for another two. Then, my husband gets it! These phones last 6 years. Actually just replaced the screen and battery in the 12 pro my husband uses, it will last as long as that new battery lasts, probably 4 more years.
Sadly, yes. Apple has amassed a fortune because of it. My 11 Pro Max is still working great. Until I start having battery issues, I’m keeping it.
Base 16 is plenty good. I don't think it's worth going pro/pro-max. Maybe worth getting the 16 plus.

I bought an android with 120hz screen oled, now when i use the 60 hz on iphone, its too choppy and unusable.
I suggest users to upgrade to android 120hz if you dont have money for pro. You wont regret and never go back.
Are you serious? iPhone 16 is a huge upgrade over 13.
Also, Pro phones have great telephoto lenses, Promotion 120hz and Always On. They also have much faster USB C.
Visual Intelligence is coming THIS year. I think iOS 18.2 in December will make a big case for Apple Intelligence. And yes, I upgraded to a 16 Pro Max.
If you’re switching every year, it’s gonna seem like a minimal upgrade. But if you’re coming from a iPhone 12 or older, it’s a huge upgrade. The iPhone 16 is a solid upgrade for anyone who has a iPhone 13 or older.
I upgraded to a 16 PM for battery, USB-C and Camera but I really thought many people would just get the regular 16 unless they had to have what you note. If I didn't want the new video mode and battery I would have gotten the 16 simply for the color, lol!
I just upgraded from my iPhone 14 mainly because I wanted USB C. I was going to get a 15 to save money but ATT is running a promotion where the 16 is actually cheaper than the 15 so I went for the black 256GB version.
Same and honestly really happy from 14 to 16!
This promotions cost you more on the long term because the data plans required are more expensive.

I upgraded to a 16Pro from my 12Mini and I"m so happy with my device. I'm loving the 2000nits outdoors, my 12mini was so dim. And I haven't noticed the screen dimming from overheating, so the improved heat dissipation has really made a difference in my use. It is kinda heavy compared with my 12mini, but I'm getting used to that (it's been 2wks).

I went from IPhone 15ProMax to 16Pro… Love being back to a smaller phone but having all the camera features that were not in the 15Pro. So I am happy with the 16Pro. In saying this I tend to agree that the 16 line is mineable change to the 15Pro. My partner had a IPhone 12pro and I got her too the 16Pro and she loves it. Speed… Camera…. Features…. etc…
I know of a big company that is upgrading the phones for employees from Iphone 8 to Iphone 14 (no pro) right now. Companies and governmental agencies are afraid of how AI even hosted by Apple may steal confidential company owned information and data from the phones of their employees - this does not get covered by YT channels that are so focused on consumer and private end uses of these devices.

@@princessadora I am not sure if a company can do that and over-ride the menu to not allow employees access. Since they do not know all the implications some of these companies just choose to study it, kick the can and buy phones without the AI capabilities and prevent apps from 3rd parties being installed.
I came from an iPhone SE (3rd Gen) and the 16 feels like a big upgrade to me. It’s faster, the larger screen size is great and I love the major improvement in the photo quality and camera control functions.
AI was the main selling point. Complete F up by Apple on this. Friends with 16/16Pro are very disappointed.
I had a XR long back. Used it till 2022, and shifted to Android just cause my old Macbook Air (2015) gave up. Traded up 3 Androids from 2022 to 2024, but no amount of change would bring the happy smile back. Pulled the trigger on an iPhone 16 (512) 2 weeks ago and I am all smiling again. Now I wait for iPhone 19 before considering any upgrade. Happy 3 years ahead.
Funnily enough I still have my 13 and it’s currently at 87% battery health, I’m somewhat tempted to get a 16 pro soon and then it’s looking like I won’t upgrade for years to come.
At this point the phones aren’t upgrades of past generations, more like a coat of new paint.
Good video. Am a casual user and am of the mindset that I replace life expired devices rather than upgrading from a good one. I think you hit most of the points. I would say I am not excited about AI, I really don't see how it would make my life easier, not saying I won't use it one day but ...Apple kind of "Osborned" the iPhone 16 by marketing it as built from the ground up for AI when it's not ready yet. I think the issue is that phones are now mature devices and honestly my iPhone 14 Pro is really good at what I need it for and every day I find even more uses.
The worth upgrading from iPhone 15. Adding a camera button was dumb and now people complaining about it pushing it accidentally. I wish Apple would get rid of all buttons

I’m on a 2 year upgrade. I am happy to finally have ProRes 4K shooting directly to my USB C external. With my old iPhone 14 Pro I could only do ProRes in 1080 and no USB C 📱
the iphones arent holding as much value i feel like. i bought my 12 pro for $2100 and listed it for sale $750-850 and offered it at auction for $650. i couldnt sell it and tried many times. a big reseller selling them for 650 as well (poorer condition than mine without known histories). mine is in mint condition so feeling gutted. phone company offering $497 for trade in so i'll probably go that route.

I think it would’ve been better if they released the phone and the Apple Intelligence features at the same time. I think the phones will eventually sell like hotcakes when all of the advanced features drop
I purchased a pro and returned it at the end of two weeks and then brought a second hand 13 mini. Can't justify the cost, and it was just too big - all the convenience of having usb C, an action button, etc was canceled out by the inconvenience of its size. The 13 mini has been a very good update to my gen 1 SE.

Android users are broke I really want an iPhone but they can’t afford one so they have to settle for Google spying on them with lacklustre app quality and inferior versions to the iOS counterparts. Android phones also lose value and depreciate way quicker than an iPhone and also iPhones have far better privacy.
I have a 13, and it is still holding up. Would I like to upgrade? Yes. Do I have money? No. The carrier deals would be beneficial to help, but still the initial costs are a bit much. I would like the 16 pro, because I am an intermediate photographer and would like the macro option and higher quality pics.
I have an iPhone 13 and it’s fine, it gets the job done. I’m taking it to Apple and see what I can do about my battery not functioning properly. But I got AppleCare+ so hopefully they give me a new battery. If they do that, I’ll be happy. I worked extra hours so I got the $1,200 for the Pro Max but if I can squeeze out another year out this phone I’ll just wait for the 17 next year. The iPhone Pros have all pretty much looked the same and too similar for me to spend that much money on it.

I’d generally agree with all this. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a year where almost all the marketed features don’t come on the new phone at launch. By the time the new Siri and all the AI features are available, we’ll be gearing up for iOS 19 betas and dubdub. Ridiculous.
Another reason to pick the 16 Pros over the base 16 is the usb c transfer speeds. 480Mb/s on the base 16 vs 10Gb/s on the Pros. Huge difference if you're backing up photos/videos to an external ssd.
As someone who just bought the iPhone 15, the iPhone 16 is a big leap…many new features that my phone lacks

I have one 14 pro max. I was about to switch to 16 and then I learnt that Apple Intelligence will not rollout in any EU territory and also I would lose the always on features and losing features when you change the phone to a higher version really sucks. The other option is to pay 250 euros more in the 16 pro just for keeping always on and that’s definitely far from a good deal.
At 14 Pro Max atm and in EU without AI in sight, I think I'll wait another year. Not many reasons to pay for a new phone right now
The 16 is horrible having a premium phone with a 60Htz screen is criminal. My wife got it and the judder when scrolling any webpage makes it unusable. She got the Pro and is much happier.
biggest reason i'm getting 16 pro over 16 is style. i like the 3 camera look and the shade of white looks brighter. i have a 15 because pink but i'm upgrading my 12 pro.
My wife has an 11, I have a 12 pro. Had both batteries replaced a couple years ago. Besides the cost of the phones I will need to buy new usb-c chargers and cables for the house and cars. I heard using a low powered usb-a charger can prematurely degrade the battery. Maybe a sales gimmick. We will never use all the new features. Will probably wait until new batteries needed or software not supported.

I went from a 12 pro max to the 16 pro max, I love it , I mainly did to for the camera and I wasn’t let down , excellent phone (I don’t even think anyone knows or has an idea of what to do next in the smart phone market it’s all at a bit of a standstill)

I got the new one as I do every year and I feel underwhelmed. They released it and don’t even really have AI functionality in it. Once it gets the AI I might think differently

I thought the switch from a 14PM to a 15PM was a really worthy upgrade. It was much lighter, because of the titanium, had a nice finish, slightly nicer shape and had that great 5x zoom.
This year, there ain’t much reason to upgrade. New photographic styles? Why can’t that be on older devices? That’s just Apple’s cynical marketing.
Also, on the 60hz refresh rate, they apparently cap the Pro screens at 80hz anyway!
Most of the excitement lately is not in hardware specs but software specs. Reputable camera experts note that the Iphone spec bumps are not any better than prior models (see Tony Northrup). What is irritating to me is therefore why get the 16 when the best feature AI , is not rolling out until November with not all features coming after that? Why not wait for the 17 when AI is finally backed into the software. Apple has done this with other OS improvements (not releasing until well after new model launches). - Remmember the days when everything was released that they promised for that cycle in September of each year?
I recently jumped from the 12 mini to the 16 Pro. My first ever “Pro” phone (previously jumped from the iPhone 8 to the 12 mini) so I like it.
No reason to update the iPhone 16; it still doesn't have a 120 Hz refresh rate, which is ridiculous.

We upgraded from the 13 PM and love the differences. I got a pro and he bought a PM.
Here’s a thought: with the dwindling of differences between the mainstream vs Pro iPhones in the last couple of releases, perhaps it’s time for Apple to streamline the iPhone lineup and retire the Pro models to concentrate on just the main iPhone (with different colors and sizes). For those who need the additional “Pro features” like the additional camera, LIDAR, 4K/slo-mo, …, etc, such features could be offered in an optional clip-on/MagSafe accessory with its own SD-card storage that could double up as a power/data bank. Better yet, such an accessory could be developed with an established camera/accessory maker. The company could then concentrate on a single line of iPhones - even experiment with potential meaningful models such as future SEs (as usual based on previous designs powered by current processors), foldable units (although I for one don’t see a need for one?), … But plz: not the rumored “Air” model!

The phone is following the computer/laptop market. The form factor is mostly set (save for foldable), cameras are good enough for decent photos/videos, screens are good enough for most day to day tasks and use cases, internal hardware improvements are imperceptible by 99% of users. Unless something new comes along the phone isn’t going to be revolutionary like the original iPhone and the few following generation were.

These are not flops. They will still sell tens of millions. Even though they will sell less than last year, it will sell a lot. Flop from an investor standpoint, yes but not a bad phone at all. And the cheaper versions will sell less because iPhone users keep their phones a long time so when they upgrade many people get the best versions. It's the same now with Galaxy users. Phones have gotten really good. There is no such thing as a bad phone

"Run iPhone 13 into the ground". Hmmm... I'm running an iPhone 12 Pro Max, and it works very well. I don't feel like I'm running it into the ground. SoC performance is not an issue at all. The main reason I'd upgrade to the iPhone 17 Pro Max next year is because it'd be nice to have a new camera setup. I'd pass the 12 Pro Max down to my kid, although I'd consider getting the battery replaced by then. (So far the battery hasn't been an issue for me, but a refreshed battery would extend that phone's life by several more years.)

The Apple intelligence features only available on the new iPhones and last year’s iPhone 15 Pro models are going to be revolutionary. As the months go by, that device will reward you with more and more new capabilities.
A still have my iPhone 13 Pro Max as my first iPhone. So far I don’t see a need to upgrade.
