ok..so. even 20 minutes ago if you were to ask me if i liked any sort of music like this i would've said absolutely not. I clicked on this video coming from helms alee playing at kexp and christ i am floored. some of the music gave me goosebumps. well done gentlemen. well done.
LOL , this ain't the 60's anymore Most analogue eurorack ( a lot of eurorack stuff is digital ) , but most of todays analogue stuff have extremely stable oscilators
fucking 4:50 is the catalyst . this is the most raw unadulterated example of what TRUE electronic music is . the simple reverberation of particular frequencies of rhythm. The most basic universal language.

One of the best live acts we've ever hosted at Decibel Festival and one of the better KEXP in-studios I've seen. Bravo on capturing this brilliant performance and asking some very interesting and pertinent questions. Alex Ruder is the man!
Experts in sound! Came across these guys a few years ago somehow and loved it! Until I watched this video I had no idea they were creating music on a system like this. As a baseline and d&b lover, this stuff is crazy awesome!!
If i had heard this album from mp3 or such, i wouldn't had paid any attention to this stuff whatsoever. But i had the great luck to see this live a couple of weeks ago.. after a guy who was playing on two Apple laptops.. i cried! incredible sonore and engaging experience!
I prefer this set to the album version. All the little distortions and harmonizing oscillators are much more noticeable. Praise and accolades for making pure electronic music with a warm and funky sound.
This (and all other SMD videos) make me wish I was seeing them live again sometime soon. Complete and utter craft mastery is just a regular day for these two. (They're amazingly nice and down to earth too.)
I cannot wrap my head around how they are doing this. The way they're moving the dials up and down a fraction, twisting three things and pressing buttons all at once whilst also head-bobbing, I just cannot deal.
Came here because PDIDDY put James to sleep at his freak off parties . Boy got laceddddddddddd and was ktfo. Prayers for you
I send this video to anyone who thinks electronic music is simple.
Isaac Arnold lol, hear/here
but its just two guys farting around
It's different dude, DJ shit is so freaking simple but this one is masterpiece
To be fair, as far as electronic music goes, this is relatively simple. That's not to say it isn't good.
wow..................
so much talent................
i'm overwhelmed with how good they are at plating COMPUTERS...........
PURE ANALOGUE MAGIC!!! I LOVE IT!!! 🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶
MAN THIS IS SO ADDICTIVE I KEEP COMING BACK FOR MORE!!! 🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵

Listen to the actual album. I would argue that it may be their best take of the mix.
Attack, sustain, decay, release
wholesome comment
@@temporary_terpenes I love the album but I prefer the mix on this video
-This is officially my most Favorite recorded show on KEXP.
6 years later, I still think it’s one of the best live electronic music sessions, ever
i like to think the reason they took so long to drop it is because they needed the oscillators to warm up so it could sound 10/10
LOL , this ain't the 60's anymore
Most analogue eurorack ( a lot of eurorack stuff is digital ) , but most of todays analogue stuff have extremely stable oscilators
@MWay saw the official vid and its... fucken dope i must say
Man I'm so sad they're on hiatus. There's few bands I'm sad about never seeing live, but these guys are at the top of that list.
This gives me a nostalgia for electronic music for a time before I was even born...
+gumdrops27 felt the same man..!!
Were you born in 2007? Their debut album is from 2007.
How do you not get lost in that sea of knobs and wires? This is amazing.
I love how they even brought out the office chairs
DOCTORS/PROFESSORS OF SYNTHESIS AND INSTRUMENTATION!!!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
WONDERFUL WAVEFORMS, FREQUENCIES AND TEXTURES!!!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
"Getting the most out of a closed system"-- love it!!
I love how they bob in time without looking at each other
it's the beat :)
fucking 4:50 is the catalyst . this is the most raw unadulterated example of what TRUE electronic music is . the simple reverberation of particular frequencies of rhythm. The most basic universal language.
Max Murphy try 9:35
Rodrigo Varela yeah, juicy cliksNclaks
great composition at 4:50 - seriously beautiful. 9:35 is fine, but forgettable.
Your comment was electronic poetry.
Om
love the baseline on the very first music, it loops so intensely
What instrument do you play? Oh, i play the atomic switchboard.
I Play 'The Generator' Myself!!!🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵
And Why Not!!!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Ohhh I just press play on my mp3 player and troll everyone setting up wildly wire-y modular synths

W-O-W + ZOWIE!!! I HAVE GOT NO IDEA OF WHAT I JUST SAW, HEARD AND EXPERIENCED BUT IT WERE G-R-E-A-T ANYWAY!!!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
KEXP: So before we start, what instruments do you need?
SMD: Yes
This got the belly laugh dude
I can’t believe that this channel only has 1m subscribers!; the whole world should be following their fantastic work!
One of the best live acts we've ever hosted at Decibel Festival and one of the better KEXP in-studios I've seen. Bravo on capturing this brilliant performance and asking some very interesting and pertinent questions. Alex Ruder is the man!

Beyond brilliant, these guys really set the bench mark for electronic music today!!!
If i had heard this album from mp3 or such, i wouldn't had paid any attention to this stuff whatsoever. But i had the great luck to see this live a couple of weeks ago.. after a guy who was playing on two Apple laptops.. i cried! incredible sonore and engaging experience!
I belive what I need to belive - their music message is perenial
Perfect tunes for listening to at work to keep me chilled.
They should make an album out of this Live take at your show because it is really good, I love it.
Beautifully strange and attractive sound.
I'm so glad I found this performance produced by KEXP! What a find! I've always admired SMD for their music and interesting music videos.
nice!!! Favorite Act this year... by far!
Oh man! This is brilliant! The second part (after the interview) is my favorite!
I prefer this set to the album version. All the little distortions and harmonizing oscillators are much more noticeable. Praise and accolades for making pure electronic music with a warm and funky sound.
JUST GROOVIN' ON DOWN WITH SIMIAN MOBILE DISCO!!! 🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶
It looks like they are flying a spaseship
hahaha I was just thinking the same.
that's the 'mobile' part
I know right? LMAO
music for the planetary masses
if daft punk had a spaceship they would probably be the pilots
i can't wait to see them in Bogota in 2016
This is why intelliligel modular is cooler than you're average DJ on a turntable. Listen to those lovely sounds!
This (and all other SMD videos) make me wish I was seeing them live again sometime soon. Complete and utter craft mastery is just a regular day for these two. (They're amazingly nice and down to earth too.)
Can't wait to see them in Newcastle this February! x_x
Cirklon + Modular = WIN! Love this show... watched it a gazillion times
It is like R2-D2 and C3PO are sitting in a lounge, on the road to the Death Star, having a blast on the electronic music's past.
It looks like when a BT engineer has opened the exchange box at the end of the road!
utterly amazing, just wow
just amazing
and the music is smooth and wonderfully crafted
I LIKE THE WAY THE DRUM MACHINE COMES IN AT 4:55 👍👍👍
really love Whorl and these tracks performed live are superb..
THE BUCHLA IS A WONDERFUL SYNTH!!!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Last friday of October with this on the headphones. it feels good. #SimianMobileDisco
Geniouses
This is the definition of art
THIS IS SPACE MUSIC!!!🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶
love these guys such great tunes and all that modular gear *drool*
Saw them in person several years ago - they were great!
Is excellent!!
No computers! All synced thru MIDI (or maybe not, just LFO's) ! This is true electronic music!
A lot of their stuff looks homemade too!
Pure bs. Like a classical guy saying electronic music is not music.
Oh, and also, you do not actually know what a computer is. Because I saw a couple on the video. So, please gtfo.
they definitely use digital for some of their sequences. this specific production wouldn't exist without computers.
plus, digital music can/has beeen produced with as much intention and detail as analog. true musicianship exists in the people creating it, not how.
amazing
Thanks for the pleasure you give me. This is one of my favorite performances.
ON THE SPACE MACHINE:- SIMIAN MOBILE DISCO!!! 🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶
JUST THE KINDA KNOB TWIDDLING I LIKE!!! VERY SUBLIME!!!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Nice composition, well done.

WHO NEEDS A ROCKETSHIP TO GET TO MARS WHEN YOU HAVE GOT THIS!!!🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵
these two immediately earn Ensign ranking on any federation starship :)
I cannot wrap my head around how they are doing this. The way they're moving the dials up and down a fraction, twisting three things and pressing buttons all at once whilst also head-bobbing, I just cannot deal.
Ishbel McL that’s exactly how I would describe my ex’s blowjob form. Too much shit going on. Chill Brenda!!!

You cannot get more geeky (looking) that James Ford, the dude with the afro. I'm curious as to what has he created with Depeche Mode.
lovely
found out why mod gear is so hard to find. because Simian Mobile Disco has it aLL
I had heard OF these guys before but I popped over here today to see if I should check them out at Latitude '17. That'll be a resounding 'YES' then.
Yeah that was fantastic!
@29 min pure bliss
Reminds me a lot of Boards of Canada and Tosca... Good stuff!
This is what im talking about...serious analog gear...unique...
Superb
you guys should do more video work like this. great stuff. the shots you chose really complimented your subject. :)
