More a love song. A song for lovers. Other songs they rocked out more. They had a lot of great songs though. They were much better than I think a lot of people realised. Not just another pop group.
When I first heard this on the radio, I thought it was ELO. The harmonies and all. But each time I heard it, I knew it wasn't them. Turned out to be Sweet
Still a favorite of mine after all these decades - always gets me going . Every time I hear it I can't help but think of ELO as the arrangement just sounds perefect for them ( lead vocals aside ) .
At heart, the Sweet were a hard rock band, Chinn and Chapman got them recognition with their bubblegum ( but still impressive) chart oriented singles. If you listen to some album tracks and B sides, you could easily confuse them with Led Zeppelin or even early Iron Maiden (Set me Free, have a listen, you'll see what I mean) They never got the recognition they deserved. And the instrumental break in this track is very 'Tubular Bells'!👍👍👍
So glad you reacted to the Live extended version. Pure magic. Bizarre the new appreciation for Sweet after adulthood. In the 70's spent my time listening to same ol, same ol..Eagles, Fleetwood Mac...etc. These guys were just tooooo different.
Just LOVE Sweet, & they've never gotten the respect they deserve. This song really shows their versatility & talent. They're also responsible for one of my all time faves, "Fox On The Run". Back in the day, that's what my friends & I THOUGHT we were - "foxes on the run"! Thanks for this reaction, sir!
At was at a Home Depot a few weeks back... this tune came over the store speaker system. I just stood there... under the nearest speaker... just soaking it in. I've always loved The Sweet... with this tune being my favorite of theirs. Great, great underrated band. Thanks Dude... great selection of 🎶!!
This was a fun band. Not too many of their songs became hits but those that did were monsters. Thanks for bringing back that era for me tonight, Harri. Nicely done.
The Sweet were masters at reinventing their sound and image. The started out as a Bubblegum band playing Chin and Chapman songs, then they started branching out into a more Bubblegum/Glam Rock sound. This then metamorphosed into Glam/Metal followed by this more Prog sound.
If you listen carefully, there is one voice much higher than the rest. That's the gruff looking guy with the beard on lead guitar. Everybody in this band had an amazing singing voice.
This is one of those songs that I identify with my very early teen years when it was released. I have never been a huge fan and I don't have any of their vinyl albums, but I really liked this song then and I still really like it now. You could say it's timeless.
Recently You had mentioned that English Glam bands on that era never seemed to do well in America, I said of them all the Sweet did the best with songs like Fox on the Run and Little Willy, they always had superior musicianship, but this was their Magnum Opus it an amazing display of talent from a pop band
Thanks, Harri! This is my very favorite by Sweet ... when I first heard this on the radio, I literally had to pull my car over to concentrate on it... it's so beautiful and intricate... I'm glad you played the extended version - that's certainly not what I first heard.. took me years to get to it... (of course, I know their other hits... but this is "the one" for me)....
I had a rough time finding this extended version when creating a playlist back in the early days of smartphones. Found out there are a few versions of this song floating around out there. Needless to say, this version is the definitive one.
Love The Sweet! I’ll be honest, I’m a late comer and I don’t understand how this band escaped me. Anyway, I sure glad I finally heard their music. Sadly, the last member just passed away not too long ago.
Great reaction, Harri. The full-length track was played on album-oriented-rock (AOR) radio stations back in the day (and a shorter version was played on pop radio). I'm glad you enjoyed the middle instrumental section and the fade-out at the end. Such great vocals and harmony, superb musicianship and an all-around cool-sounding production! I've heard some people say that they always thought this one was an ELO song. :-)
True it's not the same as ballroom blitz but some of there other songs have a a Carribbean feel I was the only black boy in school liking the way these guys drop some tunes.
Love this song, more 'Prog Rock'. I love their early 'Glam Rock' stuff like 'Ballroom Blitz' etc, but from what I've heard, they didn't, it wasn't the music they wanted to play but were made to by the record company. After a lot of success, they were given more control and this style started emerging. Unfortunately this line up only lasted about another year until the singer Brian Connelly left. Great reaction as usual Harri.
The Sweet are amazing, great memories of songs playing on the radio in the 70's when I was a kid, like January by Pilot, I'm Not In Love by 10cc, I Love The Sound of Breaking Glass by Nick Lowe, How Long by Ace and A Horse With No Name by America.
Another one from this channel I'm going to have to add to the playlist. I think I get more stuff I've never heard, or haven't been reminded of in years, from this channel than any other at this point. With a driving job it really helps keep the sanity! :D
It's been a long time. I forgot just how much I loved the album version. I bought 10" vinyl back then, recorded them to cassette. Got the singles versions on the radio. Love Is Like Oxygen was the second track on side 1 of the album Level Headed. By the January 1978 release, the album art referred to the bans as "Sweet" Love Is Like Oxygen was the band's last top ten hit
When you listen to much bad songs you hear greatness you don’t how listen to all the bad reactions music then listen to music like and understand great music
This unfortunately was there last hit in 1979/80, Brian Connolly was the lead singer and was with the band since they started. Brian's drug and alcohol abuse basically wrecked the band and they eventually kicked him out. The band was never the same again.
I read online on Wikipedia that the band started off as The Sweet Shop ... and then shortened their name to The Sweet for their first album cover ... and then shortend their name even more to just Sweet by their second album cover. I think people in England and Europe still prefer to call them The Sweet, while Americans know them better as Sweet.
This is considered glam rock & they were really big in the 1970's. Their biggest hit was "The Ballroom Blitz". Other songs are "Funny Funny", "Block Buster!", "Hell Raiser", Teenage Rampage", "Turn It Down", "Fox On The Run" etc.
Nothing to do with this band but most everyone has heard the song smokin in the boys room the original was by Brownsville station but they have a not as well known song called Martian Boogie or the Martian Boogie cant remember but I think it would be a good one for you to do 👍
Andy Scott, who wrote the bulk of the song, sang all the vocals for the chorus and Brain Connolly sang all the verses, so yeah it was different to their usual arrangement.
Criminally underrated. I'm not their biggest fan, but I've loved every song I've heard.
Who puts a musical piece like that in a pop hit ? The 70’s were just another level .
Sweet owned the 70s, best band ever.👌🥂❤️🙏
Sweet ! Superb ! Only Andy left but they’ll never be forgotten as a great band ! ⚡️🕺⚡️💚
Sweet were doing those harmonies years before elo
My no 1 song from Sweet, especially the long version, original line up and it shows the musicianship of all 4 members ❤❤❤
Yes, Debra! Their very best!
Still a favorite of mine after all these decades - always gets me going . Every time I hear it I can't help but think of ELO as the arrangement just sounds perefect for them ( lead vocals aside ) .

This was my first time hearing the extended version. The extended part made this song even more beautiful. Thank you for reacting to this.
So glad you reacted to the Live extended version. Pure magic. Bizarre the new appreciation for Sweet after adulthood. In the 70's spent my time listening to same ol, same ol..Eagles, Fleetwood Mac...etc. These guys were just tooooo different.
Holy crap. How have I never heard this version before??
Just LOVE Sweet, & they've never gotten the respect they deserve. This song really shows their versatility & talent. They're also responsible for one of my all time faves, "Fox On The Run". Back in the day, that's what my friends & I THOUGHT we were - "foxes on the run"! Thanks for this reaction, sir!
my favourite band - All could sing - all great. really love their long version of so many of their songs
Harri, what a great freakin' song!!! Iconic riff!!
Yeah, I was 10 when this came out, and that guitar riff really hooked me. Became my favorite song for a while.
Sounds a lot like ELO never really noticed it before.
Love love this song! We used a clip of this song in a video we made. A group of friends that met as littles in the 70s.......
The Sweet were masters at reinventing their sound and image. The started out as a Bubblegum band playing Chin and Chapman songs, then they started branching out into a more Bubblegum/Glam Rock sound. This then metamorphosed into Glam/Metal followed by this more Prog sound.
Interesting. I never really checked them out. Thanks.
If you listen carefully, there is one voice much higher than the rest. That's the gruff looking guy with the beard on lead guitar. Everybody in this band had an amazing singing voice.

Please! Please! Please! React to Six Teens by Sweet. Fantastic song.
I highly recommend The Sweet's song "Fox On The Run."
Fox on the run is My personal favorite from The Sweet. So catchy.
love your appreciation of these talented musicians. Your non bias opinion is refreshing, subbed.
Check out "No You Don't", the official video version from 1974. Great song, lot's of energy, fun to watch! 🙂
Recently You had mentioned that English Glam bands on that era never seemed to do well in America, I said of them all the Sweet did the best with songs like Fox on the Run and Little Willy, they always had superior musicianship, but this was their Magnum Opus it an amazing display of talent from a pop band
Don't forget Ballroom Blitz
Thanks, Harri! This is my very favorite by Sweet ... when I first heard this on the radio, I literally had to pull my car over to concentrate on it... it's so beautiful and intricate... Cool extended version, which I hadn't heard before. Thanks, Marcus & Harri!
Steve Priest and that funky, funky bass.
I had a rough time finding this extended version when creating a playlist back in the early days of smartphones. Found out there are a few versions of this song floating around out there.
Needless to say, this version is the definitive one.
This song appeared in the late 70's raunchy movie the Stud, from a book by Jackie Collins, and starred her sister Joan, with Oliver Tobias
First time hearing the extended version. The middle section reminded me of 'Tubular Bells' by Mike Oldfield.
Pamietam iak 1978roku krytyk muzyczny w Polsce powiedzial ze zaden zespol nie jest w stanie tak zaspiewac.Pelna zgoda .
The album version has a kind of a Mike Oldfield style....Very nice!!!!.....They were just great!!!!!.....
The whole Level Headed Album was brilliant!
This was a masterpiece when I was a kid. Either it was between 1971 to 1974 when I was 11-14 years old.🎸😎
It came out in 78 at the end of their run.
the middle melody makes me feel good
Love The Sweet! I’ll be honest, I’m a late comer and I don’t understand how this band
escaped me. Anyway, I sure glad I finally heard their music. Sadly, the last member
just passed away not too long ago.
There is still one original member left Andy Scott. :-)
@@scottyh8494 wow..I didn’t know that! Thanks!
For years, I always thought this song was by 10CC. Boy, was I wrong.
Being a huge ELO fam myself, maybe that's why I loved it back in '78 and still love it now.
Great suggestion sir, Sweet was a fantastic band.
Slade's "Fox on the Run" sounds similar to Jeff Lynne's, The Move / ELO song "Do Ya".
Had never heard the entire version. Thanks for turning me on to it.
Their albums, especially Sweet Fanny Adams, are much harder rock than their sugary sweet singles.
You should check that album out.
True it's not the same as ballroom blitz but some of there other songs have a a Carribbean feel I was the only black boy in school liking the way these guys drop some tunes.

One of the best bands on the 70's
Yes! My fave by them! So happy you reacted to it :) Keep On Rockin'
Great track great guitar riff
I used to think this was ELO,sounds very similar to them, great tune
Da
Thanks for the extended version... I loved it!
Great reaction Harri. I’ve never heard the album version before. Try Sweets Fox on the Run.
Great song 🎶
Great band 🤘
Life is better with Sweet-Music 🥰
The Sweet are amazing, great memories of songs playing on the radio in the 70's when I was a kid, like January by Pilot, I'm Not In Love by 10cc, I Love The Sound of Breaking Glass by Nick Lowe, How Long by Ace and A Horse With No Name by America.
Agreed Harri. This is not a bit like Wig Wam Bam lol !!!
This is the only version to listen to, the long version
Harri, I'm sorry I missed this reaction from you, yesterday........unique song!
Years ago, when I first heard this song, I thought it was ELO.
Da
Another one from this channel I'm going to have to add to the playlist. I think I get more stuff I've never heard, or haven't been reminded of in years, from this channel than any other at this point. With a driving job it really helps keep the sanity! :D
Classic Riff and drum fill after the extended break. Remember it well from back when it came out.
It's been a long time. I forgot just how much I loved the album version.
I bought 10" vinyl back then, recorded them to cassette. Got the singles versions on the radio.
Love Is Like Oxygen was the second track on side 1 of the album Level Headed. By the January 1978 release, the album art referred to the bans as "Sweet"
Love Is Like Oxygen was the band's last top ten hit
Class
I remember The sound and Voices from ELO, is truth. Sweet had great songs , this and others how Ballromm Blitz, Papá Joe.
Everyone sings, bass so out there.
Music while laying at the pool watching the women and getting stoned.
Try Ac/Dc, yesterdays rain, cockroach and my favorite by them Healer
This was a fun song, I totally forgot about it
Wow....bringing back memories from high school
The album version is a prog/pop masterpiece.
only version I ever heard.
Good 👍🔥😊😊😊😊😊😊👍🔥🥵😊☺️🙂😌😘😙
When you listen to much bad songs you hear greatness you don’t how listen to all the bad reactions music then listen to music like and understand great music
I love watching your reactions. Also, the band is "Sweet", not "The Sweet".
Keep up the great videos.
The band was originally the Sweetshop, then The Sweet and then, finally, just Sweet.
This sounds an awful lot like my favorite band. 10cc.
Love 10cc. Great analogy and I bet at the time this came out Gouldman and Stewart were thinking, "damn, why didn't we write that????"
I wish ELO would cover this song.
Mindblowing stuff 🖖🏾
This unfortunately was there last hit in 1979/80, Brian Connolly was the lead singer and was with the band since they started. Brian's drug and alcohol abuse basically wrecked the band and they eventually kicked him out. The band was never the same again.
Brians problems started when he got badly hurt by some idiots that actually kicked his throat in. He was never the same after that.
Little fact about Oxygen... Too much oxygen is also toxic.
Nice
did chris eaubank sr grow dreadlocks? lol. great song btw
You must watch,Joe Walsh,Turn to Stone,live.
No The in their name. Just SWEET
Very similar and I’m sure influenced by the fabulous English group 10cc.
Get real
Anybody else hear ELO?
Definitely.
For sure
A little bit. But if there are no Cello's then it's probably not ELO.
give a listen to the "sixteens" and fox on the run....
Quick little bit of info on this song: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Love_Is_Like_Oxygen
Best band ever.
Hey brother please check out sweet lies in your eyes trust its another killer tune by them
Ballroom Blitz!!!
nuff said!!
Good 👍🔥🥵
This is considered glam rock & they were really big in the 1970's. Their biggest hit was "The Ballroom Blitz". Other songs are "Funny Funny", "Block Buster!", "Hell Raiser", Teenage Rampage", "Turn It Down", "Fox On The Run" etc.

Pun not intended lol
Who sings that bass?
Steve Priest played Bass. He passed away last year or the year before. The only one still alive is the Guitarist.
Disco or rock or both ?
Arggggh! Their name is "Sweet!" Just "Sweet!" Why are Harri and a bunch of you adding a "The?"
Vh
Andy Scott, who wrote the bulk of the song, sang all the vocals for the chorus and Brain Connolly sang all the verses, so yeah it was different to their usual arrangement.
Agree with you about the soft section in the middle; beautiful, should've been a song on its own.
