One Foot in the Grave is classic British comedy. You have 2 great Fr Ted episodes to go. The reason why Fr Ted didn't air in the States is because, TV stations in America didn't get Irish, Satire comedy. In Ireland, Fr Ted is so woven into societies fabric, if you say 1 line from Fr Ted, instantly the next person you're talking to gets it, and has another Fr Ted quote to reply. It's class.
Well you say that, but here are two Americans enjoying the show :) It may have been the presumption of TV executives on one side of the Atlantic or both that US audiences wouldn't find it funny, but such people are often wrong.
For this episode all you really need to know about One Foot in the Grave is that from season 2 the protagonist has the catchphrase “I don’t believe it!” said in an exasperated tone. It’s a sitcom.
Worth adding that it was extremely popular in the 90's, with ratings as high as 18 million in the UK (according to Google; though the official ratings are only available for the last series which peaked at 12 million). So the show was incredibly well known to the British audience. Less important is that it was remade for America, where it was retitled as Cosby (1996-2000). Though from what little I've seen of 'Cosby' the two shows ended up vastly different.
@@adamcashin4021 It's often the case that American TV networks think they have to redo a British show, rather than just airing the original. I think they could simply save their money and trust that a foreign audience will enjoy the original, just as British people enjoy American shows.
@@danyoutube7491 Its practically a given now that American Networks wont air a foreign show in prime time. As far as I understand it wasn't always that way. The Avengers (the ITV) was filmed in colour before the UK even had colour TV because it was also airing in America on ABC (Ironically the ITV franchise was also called ABC, Associated British Cinemas). The final season actually aired in America before it aired in Britain. Likewise Stingray, Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet et al were filmed in colour before Britain had colour tv's with a view to sell them to the US. Thunderbirds was cancelled despite strong UK ratings after failing to get a purchase from a major US network. All three though were Syndicated in the US. But all that was back in the 60's and the British Invasion. I believe the Avengers was the last British show to ever air in Primetime on a Major American network. There were other attempts. S5 of Allo Allo has 26 episodes (rather than 6-10 of the others) because there was hope of selling to an American network and they would expect a significant number of episodes a year. It wasn't successful. And perhaps that might indicate why American networks now remake shows rather than show the original. We don't run continuous productions in this country (other than soaps), shows air 6-13 episodes each series and have gaps of years between production. That just doesn't suit the American networks.
All you need to know about One Foot In The Grave is that the lead character Victor Meldrew, played by Richard Wilson who appears in this episode, says “I DONT BEELIEEVE ITT” quite a lot.
Fun fact KB. In One foot in the Grave, Victor and his wife Margaret get new neighbours, Patrick & Pippa. Pippa is played by Janine Duvitski, who played the swinger Jackie in Benidorm. 😀
You might like one foot in the grave the series starts as the protagonist Victor Meldrew retires after a lifetime of hard work and has to start dealing with retirement old age infirmity and increasingly inane conversations with people he can't be bothered with.
Basically, One Foot in the Grave is about a guy who has retired and is a miserable old thing that is always complaining about something. Usually things like people dropping trash on his front lawn or poor customer service or something and his response is often ridiculously over the top like if someone drops their candy bar wrappers on his lawn, he will pick them up, go to their house, and put the trash through the mail slot in the front door.

"Laying on top of them until the filth arrived" I have never noticed her calling the police "the filth" until now 😅
Really glad u guys didn't miss this episode, and ure in for a TREAT with the next one it's hilarious! This is my fav Americans react channel by far! And King Boomer love the Kentucky Colonel look with the beard 😂😁👍
Think they already did the next one in the series as their streaming site got the eps in the wrong order without the Boomers knowing until we pointed it out.
I was falling asleep and that intro really woke me up.
One foot in the grave is class.
So this is where Inside no 9 got the fight over the dinner bill idea from.
Watch One Foot in the Grave after this!! Proper comedy like Father Ted
Eric Idle from Monty Python sang the theme song for One Foot in the Grave
Thank you guy's great video as always makes my day.
The crows taking fr. Jack's glasses ... First time I saw that I fell around laughing, " fecking birds" . Once Fr. Ted is over you got to do one foot in the grave....
I didnt know my own strength, until I heard his arm snap !!!!! and then it was just a case of lying on top of him, until the filth arrived.. ROFL !!!! I forgot about that one..XD
Oh “I don’t believe it” is a one foot in a grave reference 1990 Viktor Meldrew
Having watched One Foot in the Grave is a prerequisite for this.
