My father was terminally ill with aggressive cancer and my brothers and I restored his old gasser and it was a surprise gift for him. We took to race it on a weekend. He raced all kinds of old gassers and all of us kids and, grandkids, great grandkids and my mother watched that old man feel alive again.
That's awesome you were able to do that for your father. You both will remember that forever. Both of my parents were taken by aggressive Cancer as well, there wasn't much time for any enjoyment. But on the bright side they had a great long life and got all the fun stuff out of the way while they were still young enough.
Thanks, 80 been watching your videos for years they're always exciting they're always awesome. Couldn't believe I just saw one to 211 mile per hour wow.
Thank you so much buddy, I appreciate it. Yes, I've been seeing a few races recently where the cars were going over 200mph. I need to get a video together of that race soon, so cool. Also I saw a Jet car go almost 300mph, and I guess on a good run that guy can actually hit 300mph in the quarter mile. Crazy...
Any of youse old schoolers remember Wild Bill Borch who drove a fuel altered and he'd always drive with his left arm on the door sill? That was until he ran over the Christmas tree! He went on to pilot top fuel funny cars and since he sat in the middle, he couldn't reach his arm to the door sill so he attached a fake arm there! Man, them were the days! I attended the Winternationals in Pomona 3 times, twice crewed with the Spaghetti Benders of the San Paulo brothers out of Salinas. Their tow and push car as a mid-60[s Pontiac wagon. They hauled the blown alcohol rail (front engine) with that old Pontiac, open trailer and all! I just tried calling them and nobody answered. I got Linda "Miss Hurst Golden Shifter's autograph on her poster at the 1976 Winternationals.. My mom tossed it thinking it was too graphic 'cause of her huge Dagmars! That was in '76. That's the spirit!
Hey! This is how it was mostly back in the day... Top fuelers were still considered as experimental, dangerous, and extremely expensive to race! Gassers were the more affordable "meat & potatoes" level of competition from the mid/late 50s to the early 70s... Unfortunately, unleaded, unleaded gasoline/nitrous, and nitrous/racing fuel mixtures were coming more into play in Pro and Super Pro levels... Also, Top Fuelers were getting much faster, more advanced in engine and drive technology, and pricey enough to attract the bigger, more well known names on sponsorships... The NHRA stopped sanctioning Classic Gasser Racing in 1972... Nowadays, Gasser competition is more held at the discretion of outside organizations and local venues such as Great Lakes Dragway featured above...
This what we need to go back to. To hell with all this No Prep bs. And Promods. Gasser racing is much more fun to watch and thers no jjdaboss bullshit.
Y love it the gasseur is just the cars in grand dade in toujours aussi good look yeeer sorie in frenchy no speak english just leteel is problem for mie
It still looks like bracket racing to me or else those are some of the worst reaction times I've ever seen. A few of those drivers could use a sundial to measure their reaction time. For sure it isn't the old time heads up gasser racing.
