RailRunner Terminal Anywhere Demo 2011

- RailRunner intermodal trains are assembled directly from the container-carrying RailRunner highway chassis, using compact specialized rail vehicles called "bogies." The chassis and container are coupled to the bogie. The highway wheels are raised pneumatically, allowing the highway wheels to clear the track, thus transforming the road vehicle to a rail vehicle in a matter of minutes. Train assembly requires no lifting of the shipping container, and is fast, simple and cost-efficient, comparing favorably with container unit loading times of traditional intermodal.

Well that’s one way to stop people hopping trains
Being a huge advocate of intermodal, the Rail Runner concept is indeed neat to watch and intriguing though I'd still likely prefer conventional intermodal equipment. But maybe something like this could work well in certain markets/lanes; especially short- to medium-haul intermodal.
Very nice that the coupling can not be observed in detail because of some people constantly standing in the shot!
これまた、素晴らしい動画をありがとうございます。日本国でもこういうのがもっと増えればいいのに、港湾鉄道は、日本ではほぼ絶滅してしまいました。貴国におかれましては、より一層の貨物列車の運行が発展するように願います。
Hope the chassis can accommodate sliding the highway bogie back when in road mode. It has to be way up ahead for the rail bogie to fit underneath for rail mode, but on the highway, it may need to be further back to meet legal weight requirements, and also to accommodate loading/unloading requirements at shipping docks where bogies must be all the way back to curtail suspension dive and dock creep. Otherwise, looks like a decent setup.
Can's are Notorious for being overweight most of all from asia.. It was always the main reason i refused to haul them.
If you need a heavy forklift, you may as well use a reach stacker with double-stack well cars. This is just slower and an addition of dead weight.
So these are like Roadrailers but with containers
Fitting choice of music
i wonder how do they connect air brake hose to those boggies..
it shows in the video the driver hooking up the line.
凄い合理的な編成ですよね。日本でもって思っても編成を組むためのスペースが確保出来ないし、これだとカーブの半径が大きそうなので、カーブが多い路線では走れない感じですよね。
this looks like a pretty dang fun job right here. 😂
Trucks on train trucks to make a truck train!
The first problem is these chassis have to dot bumper making them illegal for road use until they change the law which is not likely to happen. Secondly i dont see these things being able to hold the stress of pulling 50 or 60 loaded trailers down the track. These trailer frames are not that strong.
Hey question after you pull your head out of your ass and see that this is just a demo will you figure it out. I've seen these with normal dry vans so yeah your comment is void. Move along.
Norfolk Southerns roadrailer looks far superior
Agree
Unlike the old Railroaders, this new RailRunner set up allows the "front" of the chassis to be oriented to the front or rear of the consist, much like individual trailers on a standard F-89-4 or spine car. (A better video of how this system works is on the web site. railrunner.com)
Like the Roadrailer, this Railrunner will suffer from three items, 1) incompatibility with other chassis, 2) a lack of bogies when/where needed and 3) traffic imbalances.
If this system allowed for double stacking of same-sized containers, that could be a game-changer.
Is this suppose to replace the roadrailer trailers used by NS???
Great idea. But a reach stacker would be quicker loading rail cars. Jmo
If they can dubble stack them, That will save weight
Which country...
Nice
All you need is a Brandt Truck.
WOW
Nice
so do you know about the NS roadrailers there easyer to put togethe all you do is reverse a traile on to a truck
It's a good, but too much time spends on assembly and dissmentalation process
Has there been anymore developments in this?
1. the wellcar
2. spinecar
3. gantry cranes
4. NS Triple Crown
5. Triple E container ship
nope just copy cats of the TC ideal
❤Rodolocomotive karryl work trailer wagones congratulations pictures of you ❤.
Very inefficient process...
Not really when you compare it to the cost of operating an intermodal crane vs just a few yard tugs
Tell you the truth that seem to go fast. what it lacks in speed the even bigger cost savings on the amount of weight due to no major Chassis or the high cost of paying that Longshoreman or Union Crane operator to load the Cans into intermodule rail cars.
yes why that terrible music
Cause some folks like it. Some do not like it.
el futuro del trasporte de carretera ya.
Not a well explained video
This is too crazy to me
Music = Thumbs down
You may listen to that when you go to the movies. I like it
It’s a classic, better than all the shitty non-copyrighted dubstep you find in some videos.
I don't understand what you are saying. But to carry two high, OK
Was that type music really necessary? Railroading isn't quite elegant enough for this type of music.
There's always that 1 guy. I see you're him. Nobody gives a FK about the music. Watch it on mute like you do Horn Pub
