Okay, new video concept alert haha! I don't know if this was helpful and I might not have done it in the most efficient, clear way. But I hope you got something out of this video. I think it might be even better if I analyze someone else's speech in various situations... but we'll get there.

It was difficult to know how to do the subs for this video haha. But for the analyzing part, I decided to prioritize the Swedish words in the English subs. If you want to know the meaning of what I'm saying, you have that translation the first time I play that clip.
And yeah, I know, the video quality is shitty... I blame Zoom and my webcam.

I am learning all the Nordic / Germanic / Norse languages 2gether, and I noticed that in Norwegian those words like det and med and og / och are pronounced like they are pronounced in fast spoken Swedish - in Icelandic og (och) is also pronounced o when spoken normally or fast and ég is pronounced ye, just like in Swedish och and jag are pronounced o and ya, though mä is kinda new to me, I didn’t know that med in Swedish can also be pronounced ma with an A sound!
@@FrozenMermaid666 I’ve also studied most Germanic languages to some extent (it was initially my degree at university in the US before I went to uni in Sweden). Linguistically, what you see Swedish doing is called elision (or reduction). I suspect we see this more in Swedish due to the large influence of French in the 1700s, but that’s just a guess.
@@vantrointeresting, I’m French, and given Sweden’s history with France (and the many other influences), I have suspected the same thing!

This is an amazing way of teaching! One of the hardest parts when learning Swedish is the fact that there are no formal rules on what to pronounce and what not, you just struggle a lot until you get used to it! This video is brilliant 😊

This has got to be one of the most amazing videos I have ever stumbled upon on learning Swedish. I studied Swedish a long time but the one thing I struggle with is when people talk fast. This videos feels like the ultimate guide to finally overcoming that obstacle. I understood everything you said at the end of the video perfectly. Thanks!

Listening to you speak (slowly) I think it does!!! At some point my brain will switch into higher gear for the normal paced speaking, your work here is appreciated.

Wow!!! I can actually understand quite a bit of Swedish, by all means not at 100%. I have studied a little bit of Swedish. Luckily for us native English speakers, there’s similar grammar structures and words.

Jag har lärt mig svenska i snart ett år nu, och problemet jag har är att tempot i det talade språket antingen är för högt eller för långsamt för mig. Jag har letat efter den här typen av lektioner ganska länge. Tack, du har gjort mitt liv mycket lättare.

För mig, den här videon funkar ganska bra för att jag kan lyssna på hur du skulle prata och sen förklarar du långsamt videon och då förstår jag vad hade jag inte förstått förut.

Videons quality var inte dålig, oroar dig inte. Jag lyssnade med hörlurar, för att min tvs ljud är inte så bra, ljudet var bra. Mikrofonen nära munnen hjälper att ha tydligt ljud.
Jag tror att patreon är ett bra sätt för att många som gör svenska material gör samma saker.

Tack ca mycket. Jag bor in Kanada och arbetade for en svensk foretag var jag borjade lara mig svenska. Nu, jag arbeta i en Americanskt foretag - ingen svenska. Din videos hjalpe mig kom ihag svenska; det har video mycket! Min fru och jag ska resa till Sverige for den Fjallraven Classic i augusti.

Also just so people know, everyone in Sweden pretty much speaks perfect English so even living here now for 6 months I have not really needed it, just in case anyone is afraid of a language barrier. I still believe one should always learn the language of any country they are spending any time in - even if it's for a month or two - at least some basics - but just realistically you almost never need it. ;)
The GOOD thing is some words like apelsin and reklaam we have in Estonian as loan words so while Swedish is extremely different - a completely different language tree in fact - Sweden's influence in the region meant that we took some loan words - not many but some - from Swedish. I was surprised to first arrive in Sweden and find a sign saying "no advertising" on the door where I lived and realizing I could read it. Can't understand pretty much everything else but at least a few words ; )

Hi Katrin! You do very great job by revealing us the spoken Swedish. Actually, it is a bit sad. I think that swedes should be more careful with keeping your language. Consonants form the language structure and butchering them for the sake of simplicity actually makes minds more simple as well. Babies use mostly vowels in the beginning and consonants comes in time.
Of course we will learn how use "De ä o mä", but I think that having big amount of new people swedes have a great opportunity to retain Swedish language intact through teaching them the "academic" Swedish with deT äR and so on :)
I’m here to help people understand spoken Swedish. Not to preserve a language. I’m sure people are learning the academic, correct words as well. But that doesn’t help you communicate if you don’t understand what people are saying. I care more about people understanding the language than “keeping the language academic and correct.” 😊

I don't know why Swedish is called such an easy language to learn when so many things are not spelled at all how they're pronounced (like the word for turtle). I taught myself Mandarin Chinese as an English speaker and I LIVE IN Sweden for the last 6 months going to university here and I have barely learned anything - MAINLY because I don't have any time to dedicate to a language that realistically I will never use again after I finish my Masters program here. Still, I would feel embarrassed if I finish it in a year and a half from now and can't speak ANY Swedish despite having lived here for 2 years. The only things i know I have absorbed passively just from existing in the environment. I am thinking this summer I may dedicate a month or two of very intensive study nd see where that gets me. Probably would take at lest a year to reach a decent level but I'll be curious to see how far I can get in a couple months if I'm listening, repeating, learning etc for 3 to 4 hours a day. The SOUNDS are hard for me though - not all of them since I can speak Estonian but the vowels are pronounced quite differently in some cases.
Anyway, tack så mycket for your videos - I appreciate that it's here and I'll probably dedicate more time to it this summer when I have more time away from school!
