Keisha Buchanan on founding Sugababes & traumatic replacement by Jade Ewen (BBC Radio 4, March 2019)

- In March 2019, Keisha Buchanan was interviewed on BBC Radio 4's Saturday Live. She discusses the origins of the band, being signed by London Records at 13, and the writing of One Touch with Mutya and Siobhan (with whom she used to have a 'tricky relationship'). Keisha also talks about her 'brutal' firing/being replaced by Jade Ewen within 72 hours, and how she has now forgiven Heidi and Amelle.
Flowers was such an amazing track. I can’t wait to see what Sugababes comeback with in 2021.
It’s a shame we didn’t see an official release of any of the 50+ leaks we got. I feel they were undercut by the industry...again. It’s a cruel fate.
What do we have here then? Insightful questions. Interviewers who don’t interrupt the guest.
And thus we got brilliant nuggets of information from the lovely Keisha that I bet even long term fans of S.B didn’t know
👏👏
These recent interviews with the Sugababes are amazing!
Lately, the interviewers have been asking very intelligent questions and are surprisingly sweet and sympathetic :)
Keisha was basically the soul of the Sugababes. She has the best vocals. She has the looks and the attitude. during live performances, she was the one always keeping it going and interacting with the crowd/audience “make some noise people”.
When Keisha left. Sugababes should have split. You can't have the Original band name with not a SINGLE original member left! After Keisha left Sugababes the band became completely irrelevant and somewhat a joke. Glad Mutya, Keisha and Siobhan have reunited again x
Right
They actually had a few good songs after the original members left, but you are right, it was better with Siobhan, Keisha, and Mutya. Also Jade was wasted in that band.
Whatever the cause of Keisha leaving/terminated from the band, it was an insult for them to think they could use the Sugababes as a brand and carry on. It seemed cheap and empty when you compare it to how they started back in 2000
You’re fun
That was a great interview. Loved her honesty. Everything she said about siobhan was really nice to hear. I really hope they are all getting on well and are happy because I feel like their voices complement each other's so well
there would be no Sugababes without Keisha Buchanan. she's the rock of the Sugababes.
Ironically, she's the reason the group collapse since Keisha couldn't be decent to anyone that wasn't her bestie Mutya.
@@Nocturne22the rollout of Sweet 7 and what’s happened since says otherwise.
Who you here for then ? Heidi ? Lol @Nocturne22
Love Keisha.
She is the true heart of the Sugababes.
love the frienship of Mutya and Keisha
I really hope that all this is leading up to new music.
I had no idea this interview existed. Wow, she’s REALLY vulnerable and spills everything here. It’s so admirable how honest she is. Really fascinating insight tbh
I love how honest she is here. I'm glad she has put the past behind her. It means she's moving forward. 👍
WITHOUT KEISHA and MUTYA THERE WOULD NOT BE NO SUGABABES. After they left the band was sh*t and that’s the truth.
100% truth 100000000%
This might be one of the best ever interviews I have heard with any Sugababe or of the Sugababes line-ups. Great questions and really like reacting to what Keisha said and moving with that. Superb journalism. And of course Keisha just comes off so wonderfully as well. So warm and funny
I love Keisha. She's so beautiful, so talented, so honest and the best member the sugababes ever had in my opinion. Witnessing her honesty makes me love her even more. I find her honesty so inspiring, so inspirational and well worth admiring. I was never honest or mature when I was growing up. I had the competence, I would only put my mind to things whenever I wanted to.
hearing her speaking and saying "the soud it was very London"....London was always the place to be ,already since the 70s,80s,90s to today...i should have been grown up there ,hopefully next lifetime :D
Brilliant interview.
Very good interview. Best wishes for next chapter in 2021
What a beautiful, articulate young lady. She sounds like she’s in a good place right now, and honestly, she really deserves it.
Keisha is so sweet... so humble very inspiring
Love this interview, can’t wait to see what’s coming soon :)
Nothing. They just sing all the songs from the heidi line up. 😭 😆
Great interview, keisha . Really enjoyed it.
Really moving account. Especially when she talks about her depression and her mum praying for her and stuff.
Keisha is so real. Love that
i'm so sad they made her feellike a bad person... i wish i could protect her from all that but as she says here this experience helped her improve and i'm very proud of her, so in a way i think it did her more good than harm. the only thing i ever believed was her having hurt siobhan (i'm not in the position to invalidate someone's depression, they both acknowledged it and also she left relatively quickly unlike the other two who worked with her for years until they didn't) but 1. i put that down to age (imatturity on both of them, it can be difficult to process things, communicate, empathise etc. at such a young age) which she seems to confirm in this interview and 2. they have discussed and reconciled and today they have a beautiful relationship. so of course i feel bad for small siobhan previously being hurt but also feel so much for small keisha having gone through so much difficulty of her own and for such a long time. everything else about her being mean or difficult i think was just rumor. i think at most she might be strong willed or standing up for herself and that's not a flaw, it doesn't equal to being a bully. sure they had a largely moody image but keisha always came off as a nice person overall and today she's even more wonderful than ever.
would love to know what keisha discovered about why she was forced out through legal stuff
Great interview ❤️
I had no interest in Sugababes after Keisha left.
What a great interview 😀
KEISHA U ARE AMAZING,../ GO GIRLS I LOVE YOUR STYLE AND VOICE A BIG HUGE BUENOS AIRES...
A Argentina 💪💪
Sugababes is my favorite girl band in Britain. They are better than Kesha Rose from America and Kylie Minogue from Australia.
Bless her! 💞💞💞
You call me romantic but i still Think they are going to release a new album with the leaked tracks 🙏🙏
Hello, somebody tell me is sugababes usa will anounce a new song or album or something...i need answers..thank you
They won’t , they had plans to release new music this year but keisha confirmed on her UA-cam page that those plans are canceled. I don’t think they could make a comeback
@@ludi2628 oh really? So sad...how come not new music, any specific reasons?
The Sugababes official insta account still reacts to Mutya and Keisha’s new posts, so maybe not 🤷🏾♂️
@@oOoPesciolinoNemooOo new song out now on UA-cam and their insta. New music and album this year.
@@keepingitreal.5539 oh thank you for letting me know *__*
What a cool chick. Really great interview.
I think the line up with Jade could have worked out better if they just rebranded with a new name.
This suddenly made me like Keisha :)
When was this recorded?
March 2019 😇
I wonder what happened to the girls who replaced them?
"Is it harder for women?"
JESUS CHRIST. CAN THE BBC TRY AND ASK AN ORIGINAL QUESTION?
Hmm Keisha didn't mention about Heidi...
She sure looks 25.
Love the girls ❤
KEISHA ZO GOOD 😎❤💯💥
Her story is very interesting and I did love it. However, I don’t know, would I want any child of mine in a studio recording at that young age, I don’t think I would. All of the girls were obviously very well looked after but, even so, I don’t think I would be that eager at such a young age. 🤔
Are you Keisha?! I wish I was in the room :)
Hedi honestly should have left when she did they never recovered when they most .mutya n kesha
Heidi did leave after Amelle. Management followed them.
@@ayanp353 I can not believe that there's actually people who believe that Heidi left the group along with Amelle or sometime later. I have to chuckle.
@@iampause that is what happened though. Amelle left the group and Heidi followed her so then management told the girls Keisha was being kicked out and replaced. But it is confirmed Amelle left. Which if it was true, she should have left and Jade could have replaced Amelle.
She spent 10 years making Heidi's life miserable but Heidi hasn't tried to create a narrative about how she's a victim. And Keisha was so awful to Amelle that she had to go a mental facility to recover from it. Keisha will never fully admit how she was a BULLY to each of those girls.
just makes me wonder how long the revamp of the original girls will last before she kicks off again
Love u girls
Why can't girls in music bands just get on!!!??? It's about the music not frigging Egos . LOL.
U dont smile in model pics...
That ruins them.
Because she's real unlike most other "stars". That's why she's so good. She does what she wants and what she feels like. That's a very strong personality trait. Most people go along with all they're told. That makes them all the same en boring.
That makes the sugababes unique.
Keisha didn't "leave" she was sacked after Heidi and Amelle were bullied to the point they left and then management sacked her and brought in Jade.
She bullied Siobhan first then her own friend Mutya because Mutya wanted a break with her new child.
And they told you this first hand did they? 😂
People love to push this narrative about Keisha without any evidence.
I agree Keisha was definitely a problem if 3 out of the 4 Sugababes she worked with wanted to get away from her.
Agree
@@jemzzlove to be fair, when Siobhan left she did say it was Keisha. There’s an interview somewhere. So there must be some truth in it, but I don’t think she’s a horrible person. She was young. Heidi deserves more credit though in this band
@@jemzzlove Where there smoke there's usually some fire 🔥 i dont think it was a conspiracy that everyone had an issue with Keisha. I think she was probably a bit of a diva but i like her anyway.
Keisha was totally the villain of the sugababes.
I wouldn't say villain, but they disagreed and Keisha was the assertive one.
No she wasn’t, the press lied
@@lamarg3783 not what the other original girls said before they all made up...
@@nicolelooton6134 i don’t believe it unless u heard it
@@nicolelooton6134 What "other original girls"? Mutya left the group in late 2005 because she was going through a depression and the management & record label wouldn't let her take a break to recover after the promotions for their 4th came to an end. If you haven't do your research about something that you're going talk about, then just do not. Embarrassing.
She didn't like being called a bully so she decided it was racist. Former band members both told management they wouldn't work with her because she's a bully so they sacked Keisha and replaced her with someone else. I'm not sure who first coined the term 'angry black woman' but I feel like the only time I hear it is when a black people say it. Perhaps they're referring to the portrayal of black women in film and tv, but surely every utterance of this term is detrimental to black woman and really oppressive, woman of any colour are entitled to be angry for whatever reason whenever they like. Let's not take a basic human emotion (like anger) and make it a 'racist' bad word.
Classic case of white man judging how a black women is or should be. Also how white men rewrite history to suit their own warped idea of what happened
@@TheSpiciestGinger I'm not white, but I am a man and men of any race don't need anyones approval to feel anger. It's a mans given right to be angry, why is it so different for women? Now black women are not going to want to appear angry when they probably have every right to be because of this 'ABW' thing. And people need to be accountable for themselves, is it racist of me to say Naomi Campbell might have anger management issues, or that Azealia Banks is extremely volatile? Or that Nina Simone was angry when she wrote her best hits? Enlighten me.. 3 girls quit the group because of her, yeah she sounds really nice and easy to get along with
@@TheSpiciestGinger Exactly.
Please shhhh because you don’t know what black women go thru in the industry so u have no say in anything
@@lamarg3783 Everyone is entitled to an opinion and not everyone has to buy this crap. If I was a black woman now I wouldn't have experienced 'what black woman have been through in the history', thank god, why carry all of that history with you rather than live in the now? Racism does exist, I'm fully aware and tbh just recently when my black and white female friends were out shopping, only my black friend was asked to show her bag to security.. but people still need to be accountable for their behaviour, and the guy that asked was black. After seeing what she had to say, I don't buy it and she does come across as someone that wouldn't be nice to work with, the only reason this is a race issue is because she happens to be black. The facts are three girls left the group because of her
