  • Coral bells are not only eye-catching foliate plants available in a rainbow of colors but also excellent cut flowers, where their stems of tiny white to pink to coral bells make an excellent, long-lasting filler in flower arrangements. Watch this video with Noelle, Horticulturist, and Education Director with Petitti Garden Centers, to learn more about the benefits of growing Heuchera in your garden. Along with beautiful blooms, there is so much more coral bells have to offer. Similar to Hosta, they are perfect foliage for shade gardens and can even tolerate sunny spots in the garden and they require very little maintenance. Another thing they offer that we don’t find often in the shade garden is their bell-shaped flowers that attract hummingbirds! If you are looking for green coral bells, check out varieties like Electric Lime and Dolce® Appletini. If you prefer dark purple varieties, look for Primo® Black Pearl, Obsidian, Forever Purple, Plum Pudding, or Midnight Rose. Forever Red, Primo® Wild Rose, and Fire Chief are beautiful, vibrant red foliage plants. For more orange/rust color interest check out Peach Flambe or Caramel.

    Coral bells are one of the only shade tolerant *perennial plants that looks good almost all year, unlike plants that are just greenery when the flowers die. I'm SO glad I planted them in the front of my home. (Northeast facing.)

      Another great one for the shade is Purple Dragon Spotted Deadnettle. There are other varieties, but they have beautiful foilage as well.

      @@b.p.9936 I have that too. Love it. It doesn't like to be watered either. Whatever type I have had two tone whitish green sage colored leaves and purple flowers.

    For my humid area (6B-Southern Indiana) the Villosa variety are the best. They do very well.

    I am new to these plants and bought some on a whim at the garden center. They have quickly become one of my favorites. I have a mix of extreme sun and shade in my front landscaping, so these are perfect for me. I am thinking of making a hedge out of them. I have them mixed with hostas and dusty millers. The garden has such a feel of whimsy. Your discussion was so helpful to me. Thank you. I am in Zone 7, by the way.

    I am slowly getting 1 a week now to add under a giant oak tree we have, all mine have to be keep in large pots until we get our oak trimmed up. Then I get to remake the flowerbed for all my hosta and coral bells.

    I wish I was near you. Have been to so many garden centers and they only have the same coral bells all the time. No varieties.

    I bought some coral bells and was about to plant them, but I have heavy clay soil. I've amended it in the past, but when I dig down, I see clay again. Is this something I have to do every single year? Or every couple of years?

    • @PetittiGardenCenters
      @PetittiGardenCenters  Рік тому +2

      Applying Soil Perfector to heavy clay soils will persist forever, so if you can add that every time you plant something new in the hole, it will help. Also, adding organic amendments (composts, planting mix, peat, manure, etc.) with help increase drainage and soil workability, but it doesn't persist like the Soil Perfector does. With coral bells, they are shallow rooted, so a deep planting is not needed, keeping their crown about 1-2 inches above the ground level. Regular deep watering 1x per week and mulching afterward are very beneficial. shop.petittigardencenter.com/products/soil-perfector-reg--1cf-368.html

    Just planted Black Sea Cora bells. They’re totally wilted! I watered well. I think they’re dying 😢

    What’s the difference from Heucherella and Tiarella?

    • @PetittiGardenCenters
      @PetittiGardenCenters  3 роки тому

      A Heucherella is a combination of a Heuchera and Tiarella. They combine the disease resistance of tiarellas with the desirable foliage of heucheras.
