Brilliant tip, thank you. This idea looks like it would work on percussion too but would you say it's better to use a clipper for Drums/Percs and keep this limiter trick for mid bass/leads etc?
yeah i think you are right but with "edm" (hate that term lol) this trance track would be better suited to his method. all depends on the track use your ears. if you soft clipped groups in a trance track it would sound too harsh maybe with the unwanted distortion build up. but in a modern dubstep or trap music it would sound better
Hey Tony. Glad you found the tip useful! I haven't ever used it on percussions I usually use a compressor to control my peaks. With percussive elements they are short sharp hits so dynamic range between them isn't super high. Even with percussion loops generally..a compressor should do the trick. In the bassline I have here there is a high dynamic range so easier to control peaks with a limiter. Can happen with leads too.
@@sac5608 Lol also don't like the term EDM but algorithms on UA-cam. I use the term to mean "Electronic Music" which is maybe what I can also call these tips as they can branch into many genres. Not sure what you mean by "Soft clipped groups" - In groups I generally use a compressor to control dynamics but you want to control the dynamics on the channel first - if they are very dynamic then do this first then let the compressor clean up the rest

@@laxandlokesh what you do is perfectly fine and correct i was just worried he was going to clip all his instruments
@@sac5608 Got you. Makes sense :)
