Wow it must be great to receive RSM advice! Thank you very much for sharing this, especially with English subs that made the content understandable to me and many other players around the world! Thank you so much.
That's what Wang Hao's coach said.He couldn't place the ball down the line to save his life, not only with his backhand flick but even with his backhand open rally loop.He simply didn't practice backhand down the line shots in his training. It wasn't a tactical problem rather than an omission in his technique. Actually,if you watch the match you will notice RSM used his backhand block/shoto down the line more often than Wang did.He even hit clean winners which is crazy. RSM also used the reverse pendulum underspin serve as an ace up his sleeve. He secretly developed the reverse serve the year before and never used it in previous tournaments to keep the variation unexposed to serve analysis by Chinese coaches.
Not taking anything away from RSM but The Olympic finals was I think the only match Wang Hao ever lost to RSM in his entire career. The overall record stands at 21-1 in favour of Wang Hao.
Thanks! , I recently switched to J Pen last year because there is more control than shake hand but lost my forehand smash . Is think I can get it back now with good posture. :)
We need to see more JPEN players cos JPEN is no longer the favoured grip around the world and is dying at an alarming rate. RSM is the last top JPEN player. after his retirement, there is no more JPEN player in the world's top 10 and this is sad. good JPEN players are rare indeed... so when we see a good one, we get excited cos it is like they are the 'underdog' against the millions of handshake grip players. We love to cheer for the underdog...and go wild when a JPEN player wins against Handshake players. I am a JPEN Player and have been faithfully using JPEN for as long as I can remember. However, due to my tennis elbow injury caused by TABLE TENNIS with JPEN, I have to rest my JPEN for the time being and started to pick up Handshake grip. I can play handshake decently now....but my first love is still the JPEN. That is why once my Elbow recovers, I will play JPEN again...but at a more relaxed pace to avoid injury again. Players at my local club love playing against me cos I am one of the rare JPEN players there....and JPEN playing style is completely new to them. I am not a fan of CPEN as it is not as powerful a JPEN...all things being equal. JPEN blades are called 'Pocket Rockets' by many top players. a good example is when RSM unleashes his killer FH loops and smashes with his JPEN.
Yeah the CCTV5 documentary on this subject seems to portray the loss as a mental problem and not a tactical problem. At the same time, of course the Chinese would say that. Probably a combination of a few things honestly.
The Chinese said RSM was the best strategist in the game, though.Sometimes players hold back in less important events and come up with tactics in the important events.
What he taught here is GOLD! Thank you for the English subtitles!
Ryu gains a few pounds but his forms are so amazing to watch. Thank you for the English subtitles.
Wow, I just realized what is wrong with my game. I'm a big swinger only. Huge lesson learned in 5 minutes, thanks!

RSM explains really well and his hands on approach is what a learner needs to have from a coach to grow.

I play shakehand but these tips are GOLDEN!
4:27 If someone show that to Wang Hao, there's a chance he might cry. He was technically excellent but tactically rough.

@@dickn.ormous1064 Yes I remember those down the line blocks. Really did the traditional style proud.
