Kromaatikse must realize there are more than a 150 unprotected level crossings in the Netherlands and measures will be taken to avoid more of these accidents by the railway-authorities in the near future.

I see by the closeness of crossings in some places that train driver would have to be on the horn almost continually to give warning to slow moving machines to wait. Col, NZ
This must be terrible beyond belief for you, Vincent. All I can offer you is a virtual heartfelt hug og support. In the US farmers are men not children. They are willing to drive miles between different fields they own or farm. In my first postings I had been thinking in terms of the distances in the US. Objecting to a km or so out of the way journey is .... well, childish and selfish. I scaled it - the maximum the farmer could have saved going from the east side to west side of the tracks is about 3.3 km. Gated crossings are the only way to go with indications that the gates are fully down being presented to the cabs of the trains. That way a farmer would have warning not to cross. And if he started in the clear and got stuck the gate hitting the vehicle and not being down all the way would show an indication to the train driver so he can at least try to stop. Even if he can bring the speed down from 80 MPH to 40 MPH that's 1/4 the energy in a crash. The alternative is 2" of battle armor on the front of the trains. {^_^}

Het is dus absoluut niet zo dat de onbewaakte overwegen daar nodig zijn voor de bereikbaarbaarheid van de akkers. Onderhandelingen met Prorail liepen op niets uit want de boeren hadden er geen zin in om een stukje om te moeten rijden. In de beschrijving staat "de overweg waar een paar uur na deze opname een trein in botsing kwam met een landbouwvoertuig". De kans dat dezelfde machinist nog steeds met de trein reed na op ze'n mints al weer 1 keer van Zwolle naar Assen(ivm met Werkzaamheden bij Groningen) te zijn gereden is klein.
Weer een mooie video! Mij viel op dat de vertrekseinen op de perrons van Hoogeveen en Beilen knipperden. Het kan dat ik dat al eens eerder heb gevraagd, maar ik ken alleen de v-seinen met vast brandend licht (vertrek toegestaan) en gedoofd (vertrek niet toegestaan). Heeft het knipperen nog een andere betekenis? Of is dat alleen maar gedaan voor de betere zichtbaarheid?

@@UnshavenStatue It was a Sprinter train which had collided with the tractor killing the train driver on the spot, wasn't it? The crossing where it occurred was a small crossing. Ouch!!

@@hottestbrain those are known as "allotments" in the UK, popular with retired people who want to grow their own vegetables. They're often situated on land that's not really suitable for houses like near the railway or on the dividing strip of land between a residential and industrial area.
@@tech4pros1 And to complete the Dutch story: it used to be VERY normal for the owners of their allotments to walk or ride their bike (from the platform of a nearby station or level crossing) along the tracks to get to their property. (I've seen it happen, was normal about 10-15 years back, it's now almost a thing of the past as many of these patches have been either closed because of this, or now feature a safer entry by public road.
Aan de tijd op de klok in Assen zou deze trein normaal gesproken uit Rotterdam komen en naar Groningen rijden. I.v.m. werkzaamheden bij De Punt en in Groningen reed deze trein niet verder dan Assen.

Viel mij op dat u te Assen op spoor 1 binnen kwam rollen. Had dit een reden en dit gebeurd toch niet vaak?
Vanwege werkzaamheden reed de trein niet verder en zou vanaf 1 weer terugkeren.

Those are tiny plots of land used for growing vegetables. Each plot is used by a different person, sometimes with their own (tiny) shed.
