Illustrations from old children's books are often so beautiful. I have a wonderful book collecting Russian illustrators together - the colour palettes and techniques are so inspiring.
Would you mind sharing one of your favourite Russian illustrators? You made me curious!
Of course! The ones featured in my book “Inside the Rainbow- Russian Children’s Literature 1920-35: Beautiful Books, Terrible Times” are Alexander Deineka, Tatiana Glebova, Daniil Kharms, Vladimir Lebedev, El Lissitzky, Osip Mandelstam, Samuil Marshak and Vladimir Mayakovsky and more. All are wonderful but my favourites are probably Tatiana Glebova and Yevgeny (or Evgeny) Charushin. If you can find the book, it is very special. Edited by Julian Rothenstein and Olga Budashevskaya and published in 2013 by Redstone Press London.

Such a serotonin boost seeing this! Today I am working on packing my apartment up. I will be moving to my own home at the end of the month. It’s so stressful but your videos inspire me and help me feel excited about decorating my new place. I own it so I have more choices about everything. We don’t really have such distinct seasons here and we are in Spring now heading towards Summer. Day Light Saving has started so we have more light in the evenings but thankfully it’s not hot yet. I love the book club and noticing how the art inspires you in your beautiful work. Thanks for the video.
So happy to hear that you moved to the new apartment. Moving is stressful but also with lots of sweet moments such as seeing everything coming together and turning an empty space into your very own palette and personality.
