    Hi John
    Thanks for the update, great to see the million views.
    In June our 12kWp East West system produced 1462kWh of which 679kWh was exported. We imported 89kWh up to the 7th and then have been grid free since. Using solar and the batteries has saved us £495 for the month. Look forward to your video on the ASHP.

      Thanks Mark for watching and your stats. That's a great saving each month. ASHP video series is in the edit.

    Hi John. Like England, Victoria BC had a great June which is reflected in my Solar Array producing 2.48 MWh. My best day was a 99.2 kWh and like you have invested in a Heat Pump for the home. Really enjoying your videos, Cheers

      Thanks Steve, almost 100kWh in a day, brilliant. Glad to hear you enjoy the videos.

      Thanks Mark. I have loads of heat pump footage!

    I would personally use the Heat pump for hot water once the battery comes full. I would use Home assistant to program the heat pump to start the hot water cycle once the powerwall reaches 80%. This makes sure it doesn’t drain the battery when it’s not sunny. Your not wasting the power then as your getting a better efficiency. Since the zappi runs once it reaches 100% full, you are also prioritising the hot water. That’s what I would do.

    Good numbers 😊
    My 7kW array in Cambridgeshire has yielded 949kWh this month of June, well pleased 😁

      Thanks Roel, just short of the magic 1MW I see, still 949 is very impressive.

    brilliant figures John congrats on all the views definately looking to your heat pump videos, maybee time to add a second powerwall as well ??, my 4kw array generated last quarter 1,924 kw a nice juicy £489.98 FITs from Octopus :)

      Thanjs Kevin. Yes the second Powerwall has been considered. Well done on your FiT generation.

    We have a heat pump with an iboost (Eddy equivalent). The heat pump hasn't been on since start of May - the diverter has been covering the HW needs since then. We've had to put the HW on to a timer to stop the pump kicking in whenever the water temp drops knowing that the diverter will heat the water sufficiently later in the day. British gas only give us 6p for export so the difference between buying in and the export amount is way more than 3.5x so it still makes sense to use the diverter for that. Come the winter when there isn't enough excess solar it'll switch to "always on" via the heat pump.

      Thanks Jonathan, your approach makes perfect sense and mirrors my thoughts and circumstances, except we get a deemed export as we're on the FiT.

    Congrats on the million views. June was the best month of solar in the past 12 years for me, a total of 898.6kWh from my E/W split 7.56kWh solar PV. Best day 14th June at 43.2kWh. House used 1029kWh. Net grid use of 159.3kWh with 53.1 exported.
    I have fully sorted my home assistant when triggered by Eddi, that it will turn off Eddi, turn on the Heat Pump DHW and this is using 1 to 2 kWh, rather than the 6 to 8 kWh the Eddi had been consuming. So as not fully working in June, 24kWh used on my ASHP and 88.1kWh from Eddi. Hoping my automation will now start to work properly and that I can see an improvement for July.
    Due to the cost of moving to 3 phase, my plan for extra solar to become more off grid has been put on hold. I am looking forward to Kirk Hill coming online next year to see how that will help.

      Thanks for watching. Good numbers for you too!
      I looked last getting our heat pump into HA but currently need to be on the My Vaillant app rather than the SensoApp. Waiting for Viallant to migrate my account across to the new platform, then I can drop it into HA and do similar. We're still as the initial setup and config with the heat pump, so no rush to put in the same automation as you , but it's a great idea which I shall be stealing.
      Yeah Kirk Hill will be a saviour for us too.

    Hi John, are you having issues downloading the data from the app? I am not being prompted to send the CSV. It is rather annoying

    • @johntisbury
      @johntisbury  Місяць тому

      Just tried it this second and it's fine. Shows as data Text document but it is actually a CSV file.

    I get the same annoying pop up on the Renault app. My app however does show the up to the minute state of my Zoe, but I do have a more modern Zoe ( about 18 months from new), maybe a software issue? I am assuming the obvious that you have “pulled” down the screen on the app to refresh?

    • @johntisbury
      @johntisbury  Рік тому

      Thanks for the info Peter, yes I've done the refresh. I may delete the app and reinstall it. It's not essential to be fair, just a minor annoyance.

    I'm considering getting solar panels and a battery. I do have a Tesla Model Y, and wondering whether the Tesla Powerwall itself is the battery I should go for? When I speak to solar pv companies, they recommend other newer batteries and say they as more efficient than a powerwall, any thoughts?

    • @johntisbury
      @johntisbury  Рік тому

      You may find that those companies cannot get hold of stock of Powerwalls and are therefore suggesting an alternative without saying so in so many words.
      The Powerwall is the battery to beat as a market leader however it depends on your needs whether it's the ideal choice for you. What I mean by that is if you need a battery that can supply 5kW instantly with no reliance on a grid pull because of a slow ramp up then the Powerwall is the one to go to. Its reaction times are instant.
      Off-grid capabilities is available from a a few other batteries, however none do it as well as the Powerwall IMHO.
      The Powerwall will also seamlessly integrate into your Tesla app and work in harmony with your Model Y rather than having a separate app for the battery.
      You pay top dollar for a Powerwall, there's a reason for that. I would not hesitate in buying one again.
      The downside if there is one to the Powerwall is that it uses an algorithm to decide when to charge from the grid. There's 2 modes, self-powered (charged from solar only) usually used in the Spring/Summer months. Time Based Control, used in the Autumn/Winter to charge overnight on cheap rate electricity to power you during the day. The algorithm gets it right for Time Based Control most of the time, but on the odd occasion it fails to charge. If you want a set it and forget it then the Powerwall is awesome. If you like to tinker then it's perhaps not the best option. Although there are those who have managed to use the API and control it through smart home apps like Home Assistant.

      This did indeed work. Seems the previous owner had done this before too as the fuse was installed upside down. 01 rather than 10.
