Because only I can Ronnie O'Sullivan's cocky 146 BBC

- When Ronnie O'Sullivan got to know about the prize money for the maximum, he decided to make a point. The amount of £10,000 was apparently "too cheap" for a maxi and so scored a 146 instead! Opinions are divided if it was the right thing to do. Did he make his point? Yes. Is it the most controversial break in snooker history? Probably! Will anyone or rather can anybody have done something like this? NO.

Making a 146 on purpose is more genius than getting the 147.
he's like 10k WHAT !, ill 146 this for a laugh
I bet its the fastest 146 in history as well*. In the unlikely event someone breaks his fastest 147 they won't be the greatest ever until they beat his 146...
* (televised, in a competitive match)
I came here to say that!
Genius at work
Totally agree
Ronnie when he was a kid would be on for a 147 on the final black in practice and just not bother potting the black to annoy the people watching him. Legend
What does "potting the black" mean?? Would it have awarded him additional points? And also why would it annoy people that he not participate in potting the black
@@logandevine4225 when you pot every ball in order without your opponent getting to the table and then potting the final black is potting the final ball to achieve 147 total points. This is an achievement that even a lot of professional players never accomplish in their careers let alone a kid doing it. Ronnie would not pot the final ball showing his skill level, confidence and near arrogance that he was so good and had so many 147 scores that he wasnt bothered achieving them anymore. This was when he was 12 years old!!!! So at 12 years old his skill and arrogance were higher than professional players. It annoyed people because even witnessing a 147 score in person is super super rare
@@logandevine4225 have you ever watched a snooker game?
@@josephdarby2871 when i made that comment i had seen about >5 games, and since then i have seen
he did the same against Mark King :D but he forced him to pot it :D
Ronnie: "remember when you used to get £147,00 for 147.....£10K? ...Nah!
Thing is ...that 146 will be remembered in front of every 147 he's made (barring the 5min 20sec one). But, you could see it on his face, about 2 mins into the break ...he KNEW he was going to deliberately miss the 147, in order to make a statement .... and he certainly did that! But he's the greatest ever snooker player in the history of the game ..THAT'S why he can do such things :-)
This is why I fucking love Ronnie! Fair game, the 147 prize money rolls over every tournament, so it's not as if he threw the money away, he just felt like the 147 prize should be higher, he even said he wanted to treat the crowd because he'd done so many 147's that seeing him do a somewhat controvertial 146 is probably something a crowd would rather witness. Would absolutely loved to have been there for this Ronnie at his most Ronnie-esque :')
The blue was one of the best shot I've ever seen... look at the perfect position on the pink after such a powerful shot.
@Carl Heslop IMHO the beauty of the shot was the perfect pace : hitting so hard with such amount of side and still making inch perfect position (so close to the pink) is amazing. Not to mention the pot of the blue...
It really was an amazing blue. The whole break was awesome, striking the white real crisp. Ronnie often harps on about cue action, or lack thereof, but back then in this break he was right on it. Almost inhuman and unplayable.
i couldnt believe it when that cue ball landed so perfectly lined up on the pink

Ronnie must have watched the dark night the evening before
to be fair, $10k isn't free lol
Ronnie: how much for the 147??
Commentator: erm....10K
Ronnie: Nevermind...I will hit 146 and annoy everyone :-) LEGEND!!!!
“In all fairness” (!), a 146 on purpose is even more remarkable. It’ll probably be the only one ever unless Ronnie does it again.
Willie handled that really well, instead of going on the offensive and attacking Ronnie for being disrespectful like alot of ex pro commentators would have done he made light of it, RIP Willie Thorne
@MP did you not watch the video? Surely I don’t have to explain the obvious
Nothing disrespectful about it calm down.
@@mmmcfc9332 that was exactly my point you tool, which is why I said Willie did the right thing lol
@@kiely4561 well you clearly had an impression it was disrespectful to even consider someone else thinking the same thing. Then when MP asked you what was disrespectful you just tell him to watch the video.
@MP hello, generally the 147 is regarded as a perfect play and rare in snooker, so it may feel like a disrespect if a player can achieve that but chooses not to because of reasons like the prize money is too low. However, Ronnie didn't care and by scoring 146 on purpose, this will be a highlight video for many years to come. Hope this helps!
There's no money left in snooker simply because of this genius
Nope , because of matchroom
Most amazing part of this for me is having 8 reds left on the table (score of 56) and asking for the 147 prize pot, he knew that point he had the 147 in the bag
When he played mark King he asked after one red and a black 😂
@@Joshdottee hahah yep and then just saying “thanks” after Taylor called him a genius, there’ll never be anyone like him
He also called a 147 after potting the first black. Now that is next level.
More people need to know about this. So legendary and makes me laugh hard every single time I watch it. Can you imagine all the snooker enthusiasts cheering as they’re going to see their first ever 147 & possibly the only one they’ll ever see. Pure excitement after every ball potted waiting in anticipation the bang….Ronnie deliberately misses just for the sake of it 😂 pure shithousery and I love it
He didn't miss any shot 🤔
@@charlielad6124 He means in the sense of not potting the black when he could have and instead choosing to pot the pink, he 'missed' the 147
It's harder to see a 146 than a 147. Legend of the sport.
Its no harder it's just pointless unless the point you're making is you're not being paid enough. The only difference is setting up a pink rather than the black
@@georgecroney6168 It's harder because you don't want to do it. It's purposely throwing the game. If you can get a 147, you'll want to do that.
I'd be more happy to witness a deliberate 146 than any 147 that deserved a massive 👏
In hindsight I absolutely agree. But in the moment, a lot of people probably never witnessed one 147 in person. But after they reflect on what happened it’s brilliant.
@@jrw0707 yeah I have to agree with you on that one to witness a 147 must be a fantastic feeling I'd still be happy to witness a 146 made in style
Absolutely legendary and how many people would have the minerals to do that in any sport.
Joe Davis, Steve Davis and Stephen Hendry are all past masters of snooker. But one player is able to take the game to a level people only dream about maximums, centuries and his sheer natural ability are what make him the greatest snooker player there ever has been or ever will be. Ronnie is the GOAT, and always will be.
Great commentary from Willie Thorne will be missed
I'm glad a random comment on a much bigger video led me here. This was fantastic. Legend!
Its 10k for a 147 because of ronnie. Few n far between years ago but they more common nowadays now he's raised the bar
"Twelve grand for a maximum?! Tight-arses."
He ain't wrong.
What a LEGEND ! if snooker had more players like him the game would attract way more fans and would generate way more money 💰
Exactly, most of the top players today are just robot. No personality, no charisma.. Nothing.!! Just boring fuckin snooker 😤
Willie Thorne RIP
"You gotta love him!"
Yes, I do!
R.I.P Willie.
At 3.15 his mind is on over drive knowing he's got it in the bag and either 146 or 147 it's his game and he's the best
The Boy is a Genius.
I think this is as good as any of the 147s , exhibition finish
We are so lucky. Watching Ronnie play like this is like watching Mozart compose.
Alot of pool players mock the so called "robotics" of snooker play. Well if it delivers perfection like Ronnie displays so be it.
This is as good as a 147 as it’s a real fingers up at Barry Hearn
He should take out the cheuqe book and inrease fhe money not taking it out
forget the titles and records, the fact that he can make a 147 on command whenever he wishes to is enough for me to call him the GOAT!!
Pinches hurt the most, he has 1 maximum only, and Ronnie waste a 147 in his face.
Nice
Desi's really getting a good workout in this frame

Have any of his maxi/clear ups been more than 10 mns?
Because I really like that ref a
I'd of given her one...
Fact : There are far less 146's than 147's in snooker history
Thanks Captain Obvious. Where would we be without you?
Far less? It's only one less. Far *fewer*, probably.
If they're not going to shell out for a 147, they ought to make a 155 (free ball mx) 155k prize. Something to go for again and it won't happen often.
Wonder what the Time would have been
In my opinion he made that up on the spot. He finished low on the black making it hard to top spin onto the black so he declined it and potted the pink
i`ll introduce you to snooker if you want.
I respectfully disagree.
Maximum break prizes used to be massive, can't blame Ronnie for letting it roll over.
Ronnie: wait, how much is the bonus for 147. Ref:1000 pound, ronnie. Ronnie: fuck it, don't want it. I will give you 146.

It would have been more annoying if he had just walked away without potting the last black.
who are the commentators on this? is one terry griffiths?
It is indeed, along with Willie Thorne
4 dislikes? Wow....
now 7? (9mos later.)
and dislikes are gone !
Barry Hearn can piss off with his outdated attitude. Players can play any shot they like.
Does he get the 2000 for highest break?
No because Ding made a 147
Nice flex, lol.
He could have given the Money to Charity......
Ore given it to me if he didnt twant it......
You fool.
LOL
Legendary what?
still think peter ebdon is a better player
good joke lol
It would have been equally memorable if he intentionally miss the black to get 140
thats less of a 'risk'. he was like 8 balls away from actually getting the 146 when he reveals his plan to screw the 147, and if he'd fluffed it after that pink he'd have looked like a right bell end, but he knew he could rely on his own skills that much more.
He gets lots of praise but he is self absored he cud have gave to charity
you don't know how much he's given to charities and stuff in the past.. who cares tho, it's his life lmao, his profession, his choices
