Beautiful images. You're soooo dope for sharing so much of your shooting process. Community over competition all day and tomorrow
My pleasure!!
These cameras are so sick! Sometimes I get scans back from my Elan II and wonder why I’m still shooting medium format.
Yes I'm still partial to my 6x7 though haha
You have inspired me to bring out my Canon Eos 3 film camera very simular to the Elan 7 but just a few more features like 1/8000 sutter speed. The Canon digital cameras are nice but the just lack in character in the final files. Your Elan 7 and Portra shoots look incridible and I really love the results you got!
I have te EOS 3 too! It's a beast.
Great images, films killing it!!
Really nice portraits Mitch, and she has some great looks
Love the video and love the photos dude
Cheers!!
Nice bro love these shots!!
Thanks Skyler!
Great shots.
Thank you!
Better autofocus than the new Z6 iii 😂.
Ever try the Minolta A9 ? Their last attempt to dethrone the Nikon F pro cameras. Stunning build quality, amazing metering, auto focus and the highest shutter speed of any film camera, 1/12000 sec. I've got one mated to a Minolta 50 1.4. Pictures stunned me first time I got them back. I thought they were from my digital Fuji!
quite an interesting video, i always loved shooting film except one thing, the cost of film and development + scan was pretty costly. It does make you slow down and think about the photo. I found a compromise, which is to shoot jpeg on my r6mk2 + a filmic or portra 400 like picture style. Save some money but still get the same filmic effect. I just don't shoot raw anymore and these jpegs+ filmic picture styles are quite nice
jpgs are becoming more popular since I've found that people have gravitated away from over the top editing. I actually like it too.
Nice work again Mitch, please make more videos using films (and different rolls). I'm using an Olympus SP 35 as my story teller with Kodak Gold 200 for everyday shots, Illford HP5 B&W. The camera forces me to use all manual. The grainy output is an amazing re-interpretation of the subject. The Olympus goes with me to scenic spots\landscape aside my main digicam.
I’ve got a couple of my dad’s old film cameras knocking about which I’ve been wanting to take for a spin and definitely have the inspiration to now.
Didn’t actually know that a lot of older film cameras are limited by speed so will be a fun challenge.
What film stocks do you recommend?
super nice shot mitch, by the way, all the photos you take is it all over the exposure or under ?
Thanks :) Slightly overexpose on the portra!
Yet another awesome video!! Thanks so much for this!! I love old film cameras and I was not aware of this Canon camera at all!!! Until now!!! Thanks! Now where can I find it?? Update: I found it on Ebay and purchased it!! There is just something about film cameras!! I never heard of this camera, wow Thank you for this video again!! Oh and if you are hot while doing a shoot just take off your shirt!! haha I have done this numerous times but I do live in Texas!!! 😉
love the photos. did you shoot this at usyd?
Good stuff Mitch. Love the colors - I just picked up a 1V, can’t wait to shoot some film. How did you meter for the portra 400?
I used the R6 I had to get a rough idea for settings and then slightly overexposed for cleaner shadows.
awesome vid again Mitch! what happened to your EOS 1N or the EOS 3?
I still have it. I still need to shoot another test roll with it to make sure it’s working perfectly before I take it out again. Was struggling with focus so it could have been the lens I was using or something to do with the focusing screen because I’ve heard others getting really good results whereas mine were all front focused.
how do you get your photos developed? and how do you digitize them?
Just high res scans from the lab I use. They do it all for you and send you the jpgs. I then slightly tweak the jpgs contrast and white balance if needed.
@@MitchLally awesome thanks. I’m finding these cameras for ~$200 on eBay. Definitely grabbing one
I have a similar Elan 7n... what meter mode or technique did you use to meter her face on those backlit shots? It looks like you would get close to her face to lock exposure and then back up.
I used the digital camera to get approximate metering. I think an incident light meter is the best but pointing the camera at the shadows and then overexposing on the evaluative mode by 1-2 stops I've found gives pretty solid results.
Beautiful photos! I have a question: do DSLR lenses for EF mount work on such a camera?
They do!
Wow so eye control been Around, I thought the R3 was the first with it
No the EOS 5 was the first one back in 1993. I do own one and shoots splendid photos
Sold by this haha the boys even made it in
Ytb
That's mine! Ive got a near mint one from Japan as well. Works very well.
That's sick! Mine was pretty mint - helps that its only 20 years old!
Loved this one Mitch. Cam is super cool. Can't believe the shutter can go that high.
Cheers Stan!
They managed to stuff a lot of technology into that film body. Dream 35mm camera to shoot with
Yeah it's awesome and you can find it on ebay decently cheap (for now lol)
When shooting in this type of bright daylight you should give Portra 160 a try instead of 400. Grain is finer and it has a lovely "nostalgic" look to it.
100% would - in fact I have p160 in there now. I bought a 5 pack of p400 for this trip so I was sorta locked in to that speed as I had to shoot it all before I got on the flight home to avoid having it all xrayed.
@@MitchLally Nice. You should avoid having it x-rayed after shooting it too. It's still sensitive.
@@stew_redman Yep - had it all developed before leaving and had the negs mailed to me :)
@@MitchLally Perfect ☺
First Fuji because of the clicks and now film? Next stop Leica?
been shooting film for years ya wanker
