  • Learn how to take an old guitar, even one with a bad action, and raise the nut and saddle to make the perfect guitar for steel style playing. Lap style slide guitar is fun and not very hard to learn the basics. I tend to like the tuning DADDAD which is often used by Ben Harper. It lacks the 3rd of the chord and makes for a bold power-chord sound and style.
You can inexpensively buy a nut raiser on amazon for this very purpose here:

...but I used scrap aluminum to make both a nut raiser and a new saddle for my bridge.

You really found a cool way to make this Old Guitar playable again by making it into a Slide Guitar. It even sounds great w/ a Bottle Neck or even so a Glass Slide like what you were using.

That new Aluminum Nut reminds me of those Grover Converter Nuts.

Thanks for this bud! I've been trying to find a vid or some info on making the nut to raise the action, but every other stupid video is basically just a stupid ad for the grover nut converter, thingy. Which, I do think is awesome! But I want to make it myself, and do it now as opposed to waiting on something to come in the mail, plus I figured that would make it more special, and with the bonus of saving a few bucks. I didn't think it would be so hard to actually find something on here about doing it yourself, I mean, it's not like people back in the day had that cool specific gadget that just goes on top of the existing nut. I was think of using a 7mm brass shell casing, as it is the best thing i could find and think of just looking around the house for a few minutes..

Do you have a climbing wall in your bedroom?

It was in a garage/shop that had a climbing wall that I built. We've since moved and I miss it. On my channel there are some vids that show it more.

@@Grumdi hey thanks for reply. I was actually meaning the bottom part. I ended up using a big bolt (i think size m18). Was only $1.55 and it works perfectly! thought it would sound like crap but surprisingly it's alright.
