And each dancer makes the movements his. That's part of the charm. There is no explanation for the beauty of this piece. A simple series of replications and it is heavenly.
It's glorious...it contains dozens of excellent aspects all done supremely well, and all at once. And of course, as an ode to a recently deceased inspirational artist cherished by all of these dancers, no better way to pay your respects is there, than to embody her choreography with a genuine smile.
The funny thing is that on that day of Wenders' filming the air temperature, with the addition of the wind, was near freezing and the dancers were totally bundled up against the cold up until the time of the shooting. So here, when they enact the "winter" part of the dance, you can bet they're really feeling it!!
Answering my own question - and following a suggestion below: sounds like the Tin Roof Blues by Louis Armstrong and the Hot Five.....but a semitone up and a bit faster. help!

And I keep on wondering, where is that place?
Gigantic slag heaps from decades of mining...western Germany. With a sculpture by a well-known artist on the ridge-top.
