- We finally have gotten a chance to use and review the Krause 4600 Series cultivator that we purchased last year. The K-tine shanks do an excellent job at moving soil without burying the crop. They flow residue very well also, EXCEPT, for mature morning glories!
Your fields are always SO beautiful!!!!!!!
Thanks Paul.
Beans look great! Its really cool to see organic farming thrive! Thank you for your stewardship to the land and the cool vids. Keep um coming.
Thanks so much 🙂
I wish my cousin could learn from you, he grows organic and you can’t tell he even has a crop planted for all the weeds. Your field is as clean as a whistle! Nice!
Thank you. During the learning period, I had some terrible looking fields as well, BUT, I never completely lost a crop!
Thank you for another great follow up video! I never get tired of seeing your multitude of weeding tools and techniques!
Thanks so much. Hope you got your fill ;). The cultivation is done for the year and the machines are cleaned/greased and back in the barn!
Those sure are some clean fields! I know growing organically isn't easy, but people who say it can't be done well need to see your fields!
We are doing another tour in August Chris. Out of our group of organic farmers, I am one of the poorer ones ;)!! When I need inspiration, I go to my friend's farm! Thanks for watching Chris!
Thanks for sharing Jack
There's alot of science into cultivating and you do a great job of explaining the setup.
Thank you.
Good day Boy good looking field. That velvet leaf is a bugger. Had it in 80's come in corn seed, Mennonite pulled it stood it in flower bed, it came up next yr> Thanks
The velvetleaf, foxtail, and morning glory never go away Don! They just sit around and wait for me to make a mistake so that they can prosper. Thanks for watching Don :)
@@GeigerFarm G day Jack u don't make mistakes ? LOL
@@donvoll2580 😉👍🏻😁
Perfect conditions. Love the look of a cultivated bean field. Just something about it.
Thanks Caleb. If you had to have just one cultivator to rescue a field, the Krause would be my recommendation!
Your fields look great! Organic beans sure have a steep learning curve. Some of my fields look ok, some look like they're being grown by someone with zero experience growing beans.
You have to see/address problems early!! 🙂👍🏻
Very interesting stuff. Really enjoy your videos. How do you controll insects and disease?
They are seldom an issue 🙂. If you focus on soil health, you are seldom troubled by insects or diseases 👍🏻
Looks great, I would like to get a semester of cultivating school from you. I was always in the mindset to plant just before a rain. I will be changing my weed plan in the future.
John, in order to get a stand that is weed free, NEVER plant before a rain! The longer this interval is, planting v rain, the better chance you have for a clean field. Think of seedbed prep through time and acquiring a stale seedbed. Then you can field cultivate, plant into moisture and give the crop every advantage. It took me years to learn this🙃, hopefully you can gain from my experience. As far as cultivating, go early, be right on the edge of hurting the crop, and have a sharp/well adjusted cultivator!!
@@GeigerFarm makes since now. Thanks for the videos. Great job
Some people collect guns Jack.... you collect cultivators;) I like that each tool is just a weapon in your arsenal. Honestly with all the moisture you’ve gotten, those beans look real clean
That is a great analogy!! To carry a bit further, it's not just owning lots of guns, it's knowing when and how to use them! My brother has a saying, a good carpenter has the ability to hide his mistakes ;) This year, I made a couple, but looks like I will be able to recoup about everything!
Thank goodness for a stretch of dry weather for those cultivated weed roots to get exposed and dry out 😊👍
👍🏻👍🏻
Those beans are real clean!
Thanks Dennis! Stay safe.
I am by far not an expert, but man those beans look amazing!! I love your details of how things are working and the explanations! I can imagine that's a full time job keeping it in the rows! I ask all kinds of silly questions, but how many if any more times will you cultivate? Thank you for the very interesting video, look fwd to more sir!!
We are done for the year and this is the last video! The die is cast for our weed control. If you looked down in the soybeans you could have seen a few blooms coming. I do not like to cultivate after they start blooming. Thanks for watching.
@@GeigerFarm Thank you very much for taking the time to explain that sir!!
Really nice cultivator! Would like to see it in action but I do understand what you’re saying about your task at hand of keeping the tractor in line . Those 30 inch rows ? Thanks for sharing, enjoyed watching!
Yup, 30"! Thanks Scott :)
Great video! What you running for sweep style and sizes? Thank you.
I am just using standard 10” sweeps I purchased from Shoup. 9” would work in my 30” rows 🤔👍🏻
Two row between distance
The row gap is 30 inches OR 762 mm👍🏻
