This time around we get to see a glimpse of how Majestic Midways rebuilt this Space Shuttle Ride from the ground up using parts from the defunct Dutch Wonderland Space Shuttle ride.
I'm fascinated by the way carnival rides are engineered to fold up and stow away for storage and travel and I seem to learn a new trick with each ride.
Thanks to Jay and the crew from Majestic Midways for giving me the opportunity to document the setup of this classic carnival ride.

You'st to be on the fair grounds so good to see the old rides out and about
Freaking awesome!! The set up is just like the zipper, except this ride has more assembling .. thank you for another awesome video. ❤
This is cool to see how much work is involved in these rides. It's like literally seeing a brand new ride after everything they did. Great job everyone.
Nice to see a company put this kind of work into a ride
I Enjoy Seeing how Things Work Behind The Scenes it Really Takes A lot of Work And People To Set Up Rides I Find It very Interesting Thank You So Much For posting this Video And I’m looking forward to Seeing More Videos Soon ☺️👍🏻
Thank you for another great video. Always a joy to hear your commentary describing the steps, long enough to get the process, not too long to get boring.
Thanks, I really enjoyed that set up video. Lot of interesting details. Thumbs up to the people who conceived such a complicated puzzle.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Talented and hard working crew.
really interesting seeing the two different signs the ride had, love seeing stuff like that
Thanks for sharing this, I have always wondered how they set up this one
Another great video Pete, Thank you! They did a great job! Keep the videos coming!!
Great video Pete! They did a fantastic job restoring the ride! Just the stripping and painting of the ride must have been a MONUMENTAL task hats off to them!!
I pass your house all the time Pete, my family was involved with Henry T. Cole shows and they stored a few rides up at majestic midways a few times. Love the videos Pete
I'm surprised Majestic did not use the ride signage from the Dutch Wonderland ride. Personally, I think the Space Shuttle sign and the hub sign (moon) on the Wonderland ride was more aesthetically pleasing. Maybe the Star Ship signage looks better at night because of the neon and that's why?
Fascinating that the drive tire pops up and down during the ride cycle. Instead of have a motor reverse directions it just pops down and waits for the return swing.
Gracias por tomarse el tiempo de editar el video para poder ver el detalle que lleva esta obra maestra.
This is very cool Pete. I had no idea that Chance ever built a swing ride like this. Its smaller than their Pirate Ship if I am remembering correctly. The hand pump hydraulic leveling jacks are the same on a Yo-Yo ride. The back drop art is amazing. I hope you can get Pics of the Shuttle art after its installed.
Awesome videos! If you ever get the opportunity, I would love to see a Pharaoh's Fury or similar setup video. Even better would be a two trailer Sea Dragon setup!
I love your videos, thank you for sharing this journey!
Thanks for watching!
In such aww with that restoration....I missed another Dark Ride buy...still on my list Pete....great episode!!!
Sorry to hear that. I promised my wife no more rides until what we have are handled, but if a dark ride became available, I would have to make an exception for that. Always wanted one.
Thanks for sharing this great vid, it is a perfect inspiration for a working scale-modell in 1:14
Ooh i loved dutch wonderland! The roller coaster they had way back in like 96 was my first and favorite ride… what was it called the sky princess maybe
The North Pole near Colorado Springs has one of these. Had never seen one before.
Yes!!!! I've actually been wanting to see a swinging ship setup! Thank's so much, Pete!!!
You're welcome!
Nice vid, thank you!
I grew up in the carnival life, i set up tons of rides and worked in many games. I can go on forever on how all the games work from 3 stages back in the day from the Hanky pank, which is just a store. Back then, you paid .25 cents for a shoot till you win for a .5 cent toy then theres the aliby witch more complicated but you could still win to the Flat store were you had to be 18 or older to play. They controlled it, and there was no way to win unless they wanted to give you a little something. The feds came in, and it was on 20 20 and that was the end, and it is no longer any more. If you're a true carny like me from back in the day you know exactly what I'm talking about. Something about it,but I still love watching rides being set up. I suggest not playing the games. Just like Vagas, they are not set up for you to win, trust me, or they would not be in business if they were. But you can still impress your lady for trying. My grandma made many of the stuffed animals for the games and I remember cutting up many foams for the material for them till my fingers bleed lol.I thought it was gonna be my calling, but no. I'm a pressman now printing things like all your turtle wax boxes and many more. This business has hit rock bottom and we don't do it anymore.
could you please do a setup of the power surge ride or cliffhanger ride? Thanks
It's cool that you're in with them so good that theyll let you film them so much. Theres a story here on how that relationship started and developed. Did you just show up randomly during their setting up one day asking to film and they figured allowing this random youtuber to film them that day could be some good publicity? Or what? Maybe well get a brief story in a later video. Apologies if it was in a prior video abd i missed it.
long time nothing new from you, great vlog very enjoyed
Love these vids ❤
Great video
excellent video as always. would love to know how the drive wheel assembly works and what triggers it to go up and down. is there something that tells it where the arm position is?
DP amusements out Evansville used to have one
So much of a similar ride to the Pirate Ship/Pharaoh’s Fury rides. Is this like a jr. to their major?
Interesting video. Gambill Amusements used to have one, maybe still do as it's been years since I've been to the fair. I don't know how these things work but it seemed like they replaced a paratrooper ride with it. One year they had the Paratroopers then the next year it was the Space Shuttle. Never saw the Paratrooper ride again.
Didn't realize there only about 20 built. One ride I would like more info on is the Roll-o-Whirl. That used to be a staple of the fair in my home town as a kid in the late 70s and early 80s.
@@gpmccartney I believe this was actually Gambill’s Space Shuttle.
It was indeed gambols space shuttle lol
@@PeteRondeau Well road that one many times then. Last time I saw it was around 2009 at the Pumpkin Festival in Milton WV.
I remember seeing a ride just like this at joyland amusement park in Lubbock Texas, I know they recently went out of business. Is that where they bought the 2nd complete rocket ship ride?
I operatred this ride at Dutch Wonderland.
Do you know if they were able to restore the on board audio that used to play during the ride?
They've done an amazing job at restoring this one..!
Question: when these rides are new, do they come with 'assembly' instructions (akin to IKEA instructions) as they appear to be massively complex in setting up.
They really did do a nice job. Most rides this size come with a rather extensive manual in a 3 ring binder. Has all the setup instructions as well as mechanical and electrical drawings. I recently purchased a manual for a rather rare ride- I'll share it in an upcoming video, it is a fairly typical sample of how ride manuals are laid out.
great setup video Pete, loved it.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Is there a reason they keep the old dayton spider rims on the trailer? Those rims really suck because they wobble down the road and the bias ply tires really suck and are dangerous! They must not run very far outside there base . Thank you so much for this channel i have always been obsessed with carnival rides because there all on semi trailers
What does it take to fix the lighting? It looks like my old half-working Christmas lights.
I love the decorative design of the railings around the platform
Yes, has a real old school look to them.
I kind of cringed after they kept working under the tower as it was being raised. Putting a lot of faith in an old hydraulic system...
They do a ton of things unsafe that would get oshas attention in an industrial site
I've noticed the same on Pete's Ferris Wheel setup video. One cylinder failing could be catastrophic
Hydraulic cylinders catastrophically failing isn't really a thing. Look at large mobile cranes. The entire boom arm is held up by a massive cylinder on the bottom. Normally it's just one cylinder.
@@themagiccoasterlover Right... and that's why you shouldn't stand underneath a load held by a crane either.
Glad I’m not the only one lol
Mr. Rondeau Jeff Barry from Lebanon again I know this probably took about eight hours to put together but how long does it take to disassemble them and get them back ready for on the road
Same as the pirate ship, just another theme and smaller.
I Would Like to See Old Rides Get redone and Running Again.
Wow that is a Great looking ride and so many braces to install it really seems very safe and well made.
It really is, and they did a great job with the rebuild.
can you do setting up the chance wipeout ride
Huh I’ve never seen this one before
Es parecido al sistema de el Zipper
I think I like it without the graphics on the shuttle. Great video Pete!
Thanks Gene!
I remember years ago drago amusements used to have one of these
Does this ride go upside down or is it more like a pirate ship type ride?
It's like a tame pirate ship.
So cool
Seasoned crew 😊
It's crazy how much labor goes into setting up a ride that looks so lame.
Before NASA will hire you you have to work on the shuttle first
