This. I don't like it when people who don't have autism say the r word personally, (I have autism dw) but if you're in a group of friends, and someone there is autistic and chill with it, you should feel free to say it and definitely choose your friends over appealing to a bunch of kids on twitter. Like, you should care for other's feelings if they don't like it, and not force yourself if they do, and that's it.
Fun fact: "idiot" and "moron" were used to describe intellectually disabled people until the 1960s. The "r-word" replaced them as a *polite* alternative. After that, "handicapped" and "disabled" became more common. We still use "idiot" and "moron" in the same way as the r-slur, but for some reason, they don't have the same negative connotation. Language is weird, I wish people could come to a permanent agreement for once.

Ok but why is every single word that’s ever been used as an offensive term trying to have a “reclaim” moment? It’s like “pick me” people but for words. It feels like every single community is just trying to have their own “n-word” so they can feel like they were oppressed then feel like the shit when they say whatever word they “reclaimed”.
i understand why u would think this, but other slurs have their own histories too! like the f-slur comes from when gay people were wrapped in rugs and burned, the r-slur comes from how it used to be a medical term and then was used to shame and tear down disabled people as a derogatory word - it has more weight than the word 'stupid' because it is a word specifically used against disabled people (anyone could be called 'stupid', that's just a word)

Not on the same level as slurs that actually have to be censored, like the N word in the west or the K-word in South Africa. Those words originated entirely as a label intended to make people feel less-than-human. It was a method of degradation and control that manifested in the form of language. In this case the word was originally a medical term that was adopted colloquially as an insult because it was correlated with incompetence. It's history is no different than dumb or stupid. It just happens to have transitioned most recently, and it's original meaning was somewhat more severe. I tend not to use it because people I care about are sensitive to it and don't share my point of view, but using the word isn't inherently morally bankrupt. Especially not when used in regards to oneself.

Black people have reclaimed the word since then. If they are insulting a person with disorder or health problems, your fucking horrible, you should not call a person that when they can't help their fucking problems(disorders etc.) As someone that's has family members and friends and I have ADHD and Anger issues and got threatened and bullied for it. It's not cute to insult someone with disorders. I dislike it, but me and my friends/family members don't mind people saying "retard" as a joke. I usually actually use the word. Kinda hate the thought that children 10-16 think that they have fucking power to control and make decisions for people that they don't know. It's basically obsessive and toxic. Also even gatekeeping people from talking to their "Favorite idols/youtubers". That's why I love Seige 6 content such as misfits and lunch club. late but I agree It has one hell of a ugly past I personally rlly don't give a shit if someone uses it unless if your insulting someone with a mental disability\disorder go fuck yourself Forgive but never forget about what the medical world has used it for We shouldn't normalize but rather not give the word any power like any other word to degrades someone's intelligence If you take it out of proportions or say it isn't a slur is pretty retarded give it some time before it becomes a word like any other traditional insult I've been called the word several times before just because of these tics I have (I have ADHD) I'm not saying its okay to use the word, I'm saying the past is the past, forgive but never forget we can change its meaning for what it was said back then its the future is what awaits if your then just saying the word just to be edgy that's extremely cringe Destroying the words whole form of being used as a medical term to put down a whole group of people and instead using it as like a insult like stupid or idiot is a good way to destroy its way to belittle the group of people. Another way its also just don't say it if your with people irl who dislike the word, its a lot more different from the internet for obvious reasons. There are people who despise the word and any word to degrades someone's intelligence its a valid opinion honestly. Destroying the word for its very meaning to put down a group of people and making it a traditional insult or make the word lose meaning once again is a good thing we should tbh. The word is not worth cancelling for at all. Its like that one South park episode about the f slur, they literally destroyed the word's meaning against gay people and transformed it for inconsiderate people. The moral is destroying a word and changing its very meaning will remove of its awful nature to put down a group of people. Forgive but not forget about the medical's world gritty past, destroy the word's meaning to demean others, don't normalize since people some may forget its gritty history and use it to insult someone with a mental disability/disorder and either don't say it, use it infrequently and for the love of god someone can find things offensive or not. Also don't be a twittertard and start trynna blow it out of proportions.
I understand when people get offended when others are actually directing this word at them, but if theyre just saying it as like a joke or something not meant to be offensive then why is it a problem? I get what you mean but I think ignoring the history the word holds and just treating it like its a joke is also disrespectful, as someone on the spectrum i am not personally offended by it but it just feels like they aren't making any actual points about slurs or autism they're just saying what makes people mad. I'm sure some people get value out of that but I dont think making people mad by using slurs is really doing anything other than being a little annoying and obnoxious

Disabled people don't like it to be used, so please don't use it. That being said, "cancelling" someone for saying it instead of telling them what it actually means and why it's not a good term to use is idiotic

exactly Remember that one south park episode where they literally destroy the meaning of the f slur and how it was used to target gays but then literally got changed to mean annoying and inconsiderate people? even tho its south park it still holds a pretty strong moral. If we destroy the word for whats its worth to degrade a whole group of people with mental disabilities/disorders then it be like destroying the whole fundamentals for what the word was used for. If we destroy the word retard and make it as more of a traditional insult or a new meaning it rude remove its horrible connotations as a medical term to degrade someone with a mental disorder/disabilities it would remove its power of doing so. The history in the medical world in the world is pretty gritty I'll def agree on that. But like they say forgive but never forget its horrible history. Normalizing is not the best for someone who doesn't rlly know the word and suddenly use it actually derogatorily, more or so destroy its original meaning of demeaning others and not giving the word any power. SWAGGER YOU MADLAD
I love swagger so much
Not on the same level as slurs that actually have to be censored, like the N word in the west or the K-word in South Africa.
You know that the word Nigga (Idk how you say it) is from latin (nigro) witch means black. Only time made it a slur for some reason..
@@tomasvrana1703 Nigga is technically the slang version, I believe. Nigger is the one you're referring to and the one that's generally considered the more offensive way to say it
@@tomasvrana1703 well it’s a lot more complex than that. The n-word was used frequently to refer to black people by white people for a long time. It’s what white people would call black slaves, and would continue using it when black people were trying to end segregation. To this day it’s rarely used in the same way it used to be used. Black people have reclaimed the word since then. White people, when the term was more common from them, would have a hard r at the end, but as the term has been reclaimed, you’ll see it more often spelt with an a at the end, since the spelling is meant to resemble the sound of AAVE, I assume.

If you take it out of proportions or say it isn't a slur is pretty retarded
give it some time before it becomes a word like any other traditional insult
I've been called the word several times before just because of these tics I have (I have ADHD)
I'm not saying its okay to use the word, I'm saying the past is the past, forgive but never forget we can change its meaning
for what it was said back then its the future is what awaits
if your then just saying the word just to be edgy that's extremely cringe
Destroying the words whole form of being used as a medical term to put down a whole group of people and instead using it as like a insult like stupid or idiot is a good way to destroy its way to belittle the group of people. But like they say forgive but never forget its horrible history. swagger wasn't calling anyone autistic my guy was just saying the word for an informational reason
@@archiethompson6054 I am aware he wasn't calling anyone autistic. The word is a direct negative reference to people with disabilities such as autism. All I'm saying is there are better, more respectful words to use, that doesn't refer to a group of people.
He isn't on the spectrum, at least not to my understanding. I watched the podcast hes in for a little while but they all use slurs regularly and it never quite sat right with me. I believe swagger is just the type of person who believes words hold no weight unless you allow them to, and although I get the message he's trying to send all he ever ends up doing is disrespectful.
@@raspberryphoenix8660 I totally agree. The intent was in the right place but the execution of his actions were far from it. :)
Absolutely!! I'm on the spectrum too I know how you feel :))
all these comments by people who probably arent neurodivergent (or else theyd say bc directly relevant context) like "its all people who i bet arent actually nd saying this!!" like plz stfu
im diagnosed autistic and i dont like people saying it bc its just humour that actual abliests can get in on with malicious intent rather than just like.. avoiding it.
case example:my brother is one of those typical sheltered white gamers who spends all day screaming and punching things over things going wrong in co op and he says it all the time, goes on about how his funny content creators have jokes involving it and smth called "autism cat" and then he goes on to be an obnoxious genuinely abliest prick in regard to literally everything to do w me being autistic.
so i just think it would be a little better if big content creators didnt indulge in that stuff that, while can be entirely not abliest, does enable abliests in a joke they can enjoy for the wrong reasons.
that being said, i dont think the cancelling stuff or whatever is warranted of course! everything outlined is just my personal opinion, and moreso a preference if anything. my mates who arent neurodivergent say the r word plenty in funny jokes, and i used to all the time before my brother started being especially dogshit to me, and the only reason i support it being smth to discourage widespread use of is just because i dont want more people like him to have that kind of abliest safe space haha
hope i came across right:) so like it can be insight for why other people are way more uhh "passionate" about it in their more hostile cancel-y approaches or whatever. because they probably have worse experiences than me and dont wanna see any enabling of that kind of stuff at all.
Have you heard about something called free speech?
@@awildjackstauberhasappeare109 yes im exercising my right to free speech right now by saying stfu and whatever i want to
@@yellowcatgirl And I never said otherwise. You can do wathever you want, I don't give a fuck. But you also have to respect the others opinions and let them use their free speech.
let people say what they want.
nahh the r-slur is rocket
yeah yea ye
can you take carson out of he profile pick :)
No
there would be no point lol. waste of time. what he did was shitty but i dont see many people getting flashbacks from stuff that happened to other people by seeing his face. no one looks at pfps anyway
How about no :)
@@ohwowok6948 found the carson stan
@@99morphine just like.... let them like whoever they want? i don't personally support him, but doesnt mean i cant respect the people who do defend him
Yeah....no.
Is it so hard not to say a slur? Like really?
As someone with autism, can we just not? Can we just not casually throw around words without considering the actual meaning and history behind those words? Yeah, That would be great.
Lmao it’s just a word
☝️ This
It's not a slur lmao. Just because you decided to be offended for someone else, doesn't mean its a slur. And my proof is that people are afraid to say the n-word (and for good reason, that's fucked up), but not afraid to say retard.
@@ConnorMBrown it literally is a slur, mate. It's literally hate speech, just because y'all are people who don't want to improve or acknowledge your Ableism doesn't mean you're delusional is actually true. Just grow up and except you're wrong and incorrect your harmful for behaviour.
@@pastelgalaxystudio7103 look up the definition, it literally means “a delay”, it’s not a slur just because you want it to be.
BASED
What’s that
What does based mean???
@@maccabs it means something like ”thats valid”
I legit don't understand what's happening... like are people THAT upset about one guy saying something offensive? And it's not an opinion on something, but a insult? I guess calling someone retarded is mean, but like, I'm ND and don't fucking care at all. Not trying to be condescending here, just extremely confused...
