And yes - Lena is now an absolute queen in this cour - and she has the respect of the squadron of who she now leads. Shin's brother transferred himself to another Legion Dinosauria body and carried the group to the Federacy's border. His brother was destroyed by the Federacy but not before saying goodbye.
And it took me until today to realise that Shin probably only realised what happened himself when Ernst gave him Rei's nameplate, since he had left it behind when he put down Rei's first Legion body.
I read somewhere that she named the cat “Thermopylae” (Teppy for short) in honor of Spearhead fighting an impossible fight and all dying for their cause. She was gonna go w Leonidas but felt that it would only honor Shin and not the entire group.
@@kallistikaleid It also gave a great significance as spears are the main weapons of the spartans along their swords, and as the spearhead squadron, Shin's last unit symbolizes those spears being shove towards the brunt of the enemies (Persians = Legion) until they "break".
Ernst and Karstahl are two sides of the same coin, Ernst embodies the will of the nation while Karstahl embodies the will of the people, for better or worse.
If you watch the 3 videos a guy did about all of the symbolism in 86, he points out that she likely dyed her hair and changed her uniform because she then carries the 5 colours of the San Magnolia flag. If no one else is gonna actually rep those ideals, she wants to try. Made hella sense to me, a little more than the other theory.
Lena no longer has any F's to give. The Republic made sure of that. All that is left now is to fight her hardest until the end finally comes. Also, Ernst is one of the most lowkey badasses in the entire series.
Bloody Regina is Lena's call sign. A call sign is a moniker you earn after more than a year of service in the frontlines. Receiving a call sign means you are a veteran of the battlefield and is accepted by Alba and 86 fighters alike.

I'm not sure, but given the abundance of dents and gouges in the armor we didn't see when they left Shin's brother, I'm guessing that they didn't actually put him down, and he came to save his brother. That he really carried Shin and the squad while under heavy fire from presumably the Legion.
I really, REALLY wish the anime cleared up what that dream sequence with Rei meant. So many reacters were like "How tf they get here?!?" Big bro feeling lots of guilt and love, right?
Originally, last episode was the end of the written 86. She wrote it for a competition, and it ended in their deaths on the battlefield. Then, the love for her story EXPLODED, so she decided that the 86 deserved more.

Yeeeaaaahh, I LOVE that ended up veing her reasoning. Plus, I adore the story ot the 300 Spartans. Gids, 300 is still one of my favorite movies.

I remember first time watching Lena's character growth and turn around was amazing. She went from this naive littel girl to a harden veteran.
