While it won't work when you're traveling, you can keep her infant seat in the back. Then when you go to a restaurant, take that in and she can sit in it! Easy peasy.
We live in the south too and one major change between infant car seat and one that stays in the car is the heat. We have a "cold seat" which essentially is a holder for ice packs that you can roll up. It keeps her seat cool (especially metal buckles!) while we are out and about outside of the car. We notice such a difference when we forget it.
For our son I couldn't find the "cold seat" so I put a towel down and the ice pack sheets down.
My son has the Chicco nextfit, I love it. Definitely my favorite car seat.

Gaines should actually be in her seat anytime she's on a plane. And you can actually use a luggage rack that rolls for her seat when traveling.

Cullen ,even though this is coming from a 13 year old I wanted to let you know that when I watch daily bumps travel they connect ollies car seat some handle that looks like it belongs to a suitcase and then they can't leave all in his carseat while putting him on wheels. FYI....I love u guys
I swear those snack cups are like a kids version of the dogs treat balls! My kids loved to throw them in the car lol

You will be really happy with the next fit! Still using it with my 2.5 year old. I've also been in a really bad wreck and she was 100% fine. Definitely a great car seat!

The grey HUGS on Britax seats are optional for rear-facing so you can take them off but mandatory for forward facing - so the child will be taller and it won't be touching their face like that once they're actually required :) Chicco is nice too. That colour is super pretty. They've been trying to bring the NextFit to Canada for the past 2ish years but have apparently encountered some trouble with passing the required tests.

I've had that car seat for my son for a year! It's amazing but when you want to try to wash it its so hard to get back on.

Britax is the best! I always miss yall at Buy Buy Baby! Everytime we are in Hoover I make my husband go in there and he is like why and I say in case Katie and Cullen are there duh!!! lol

Sadly both britax and chicco have just average crash test results , after the research I did. It appears graco extend to fit is the most budget friendly with the best crash test results.

My goodness! Clearly it's been a long time for me - I had absolutely no idea how much went into picking out a car seat! My parents had a playpen in the back seat of the car and that's where we sat - no buckles or anything. I can't even imagine that times have changed so much. I don't think I could figure out how to get her in or out of the car seat. LOL. Looks like you got the Cadillac of car seats! I hope she loves it - much safer then my playpen!

I am so glad to see you reading the car seat manual Also remember to check your car manual to see about installation. There are restrictions for some cars about which spots you can install using the LATCH system versus the seatbelt for installation. As a Child Passenger Safety technician this so refreshing to see. And yay for rear facing longer! Ms. Gaines will be safe for longer!
Riiight?? I wish all parents would read their car seat manuals! It sure would cut down on a whole lot of unsafe practices! It's literally the most important product you buy for your child and they are usually very short, so not a whole lot of reading anyhow
Yes! Don't forget that the shoulder straps need to stay right at or below her shoulders when rear facing, too. 👍 ☺

Hi! Carseat tech in training here! Wonderful seat choice! You are going to LOVE it. Be glad you didn't go with the Britax non-clicktight. It is often outgrown faster by height. A correction on the plan information. She WILL need her own seat on a plane. Turbulence is a huge issue along with any emergency landings in such where you would need your precious strapped in. Just as in a car, a planes speed is MUCH FASTER and we have witnessed babies who are in the lap being thrown several rows ahead and even killed. This is mainly for take off and landing or in a case of turbulence where you can quickly strap her back in :)

Atta girl, reading the manual and planning to ERF! I'm so glad you decided on the Nextfit, like I said before, we super duper LOVE the 2 of ours! Cal comfortably rear faced all the way til 40 lbs in his and as you might remember, he is super tall! He was 40 inches tall when he maxed out the weight!

Yeah, they do make car seats with the rollers on it. Its called travel seat something like. My niece had one and it was a great and was so comfortable..

Also make sure her straps are coming from right at her shoulders or below. It's easier to just have it come from below. Those strap covers can make it a little hard to see.
Don't,forget that kiddos can outgrow their car seats by height before weight, not that it matters anytime soon, but thought I would share. I am also super happy that you have researched and are being knowledgable about car seats. Too many parents don't.

I really shop she likes it! My daughter is 1 and she doesn't like her new seat. She gets her legs all up & over the sides and then shes leaning over. We put her in the "big girl" seat when she was 9 months old b/c she got too tall for the infant seat.

My youngest son was 67 pounds at 12 years old! Can you imagine pulling up to middle school and helping Gaines climb out of her carseat? Bizarro! I don't comment often but I just wanted to say that I enjoy watching Gaines grow up! I have a brand new granddaughter born in April and I have a grandson due this month so I'm really in the baby zone right now. Thanks for feeding my addiction to all things cute and cuddly!
Heather Gant There are a ton of 10 and 11 year olds still in booster seats now and many more 8 and 9 year olds still using harnessed seats. It's just so much safer for their bone structure. And you don't have to help them climb out of their seats... you're not stunting their development by keeping them safe, they're perfectly capable of buckling and unbuckling themselves at that age ;)

I'm a licensed insurance agent. Believe me, I understand about carseat safety. The point of my comment was that smaller sized kids (like Macey Gaines) can be under the weight limit for a long time.

Sorry - you know the internet it can sometimes be hard to tell ;) But yeah, definitely. My goddaughter will be 9 in August and still weighs 41 lbs and is in the harness. She'll be the one pulling up to middle school in her booster seat! lol
:) No doubt. My son's mother in law only weighs 80 pounds. She could probably use a booster!
I love our diono radian rtx we got it for my daughter before she was born and have used it since she was 5 weeks old we love it, it's narrow so fits great with 3 kids in 1 row and it fits up to 120lb and it's good for I think 7 or 10 years?
We have that seat and it's super easy to install. We love it for the most part. Never found anything that comes close to the fit. 😊
Walmart has Gerber snack cups that are much easier to get snacks out of for little fingers. Same style as the ones you got with two handles, except it has a lid too!
our daughter had the diono radian, and we love it! It had very high safety ratings and extended rear facing ratings. Our daughter will b 4 next month and is still very comfortably rear facing :)

Our twins just turned one on the 3rd, and we finally got them their convertible car seats. We chose the Chicco NextFits as well and love them so far. It is harder to get them in and out of them because the sides are higher than the infant seats, but that would be the case with just about anything. And my babies don't have any problems with them so far. They didn't really complain in their infant seats either though.
Isn't shopping for baby stuff fun!!! Ashley and I love doing that for Maddie!

the britax you can adjust so is comfortable for your baby! we have it and love it! britax has a bag to cover it to protect from the sun and to take it when you travel! I'm sure you can find something for yours! i wanted to get the one you guys bought but daddy had the last decision and he decided for the britax. anyways i can't believe you guys are buying a big girl carseat for baby gains!!!!

That snack cup didn't last for my daughter when she was Gaines age, after she found out there was food in it she also found out that she turn it upside down and open the flaps haha. Plus I love the next fit we bought one after daily bumps bought one it's amazing.....

For the britax u can take off the rubber pieces when she is rearfacing. And the newborn insert for chicco needs taken out and belts will fit better :)

I babysit my neighbors little ones and the Chicco is their car seat brand I love it except for the fact that clip on the bottom is always getting stuck down in the fabric/padding.

I love how you don't do girly colors on everything. I'm the same way. I hate how some people automatically think you have to have pink and purple for girls and vice versa for boys. I love the car seat!
On another note I wish I still lived by Alabama! Gaines and my daughter Amelia would have so much fun together since they are a day apart, but Amelia would probably teach Gaines all new things..lol. She's walking along the couch, standing up in the middle of the room, and so many other things. It's so sad.
The next fit is the best!!! We had a britax click tight in the other car and I just returned it for another next fit
It does stink to not be able to carry her around in the infant seat anymore, but she will be more comfortable i think. Also, we love those snack cups!
We have a nextfit but it doesn't have the covers for the hip/leg straps. How cool!!
We had that "snack trap" cup but had to buy a different brand because it was to deep for our daughters hand to get in easily. Something to think about. We bought a shallower cup and it works perfectly!

Car seats confusing even when my girls were little. We had a carry car seat like you have but our two girls out grew these very quickly. Expensive but well worth it I did loads of research all those years ago as well xx
For traveling on a plane a child should always have their own seat and be restrained in their car seat. Turbulence can send a child flying and they can get severely injured or worse. Also NEVER check or gate check any type of child restraint. They get thrown about with the luggage and can and do become damaged to the point they are not safe.

Love the new carseat! I was looking online at the carseat rollers for the airport, and they do make universal ones. I know Missy had one for Ollie, so if she has the same carseat I am sure she can give you a great one that she recommends! Also, it definitely is an adjustment getting used to no longer having the infant carseat to bring in stores. I always feel terrible waking up Rev if she falls asleep! But, you get used to it. I prefer bringing her in to stores with a stroller though if she is tired so she can sleep while we shop! :) - Arianna
With our kids being almost 3 years apart, we were able to switch Alex to a backless booster by the time Tala needed the big car seat, so it worked out great.
I noticed her straps were above her shoulders/ since she is rear facing you gotta keep them just at or below! :)
I was going to say the same thing! However her and Ollie are two of the best car seat babies on UA-cam. The others are either ff to early or not strapped correctly.
chey h I think this can be so tricky too because a lot of times right when you put them in the seat it will look like the straps are right at shoulder level but as their little body settles down into the seat you notice they're not at all. I always recommend to our parents to put their child in the seat and let them sit for about 15 minutes or so (let them watch a video or something) when they're trying to figure our strap level. Once they've settled in then you'll get a better feel of where they actually belong. Something to watch out for. But you are definitely right - they need to be directly at (not above at all) or below the shoulder level.
marisa hinckley Ummm, Ollie is rarely strapped in properly!!! His straps are typically too loose!! If the straps arent tight enough its useless, as well as placement of straps. If they really arent below her shoulders it needs to be fixed.
I tend to let them stay below because you're right sometimes if they are at then he settles and then they'll be above. My son is 14 months and still happily rear facing in his chicco nextfit. I haven't seen man babies not strapped in improperly but I don't watch a ton of youtube families

You' all should go to the fire station and have them make sure you install the car seat correctly. Otherwise I know State Farm Insurance does car seat checks too. :)
