@@seth-nico True, but it would be interesting for them to see how it all happens, as the Son of Dathomir comics have several interesting plot points and also introduce characters who return in the seventh season.
In a post interview after this episode aired Dave Filoni and Sam Witwer explain that Palpatine was genuinely impressed by Maul survival - in fact Maul's arc might subtly explains why Palpatine decides "save" Vader after his severe injuries on Mustafar.
I love that moment where Obi Wan tries to empathise with Maul by pointing out he didn't really choose the dark side. It's a cool moment but also makes the audience realise something they might never have considered about Maul. And it also might make you sympathise with him before Savage is killed and you see for a split moment that it does affect Maul, he seems sad before he glares at Sidious and goes on the attack. As a Darth Maul fan I hated seeing him get schooled like that but this episode was also really great for his character.
Actually, while Ian Abercrombie's line delivery throughout this episode was without a doubt OUTSTANDING, I'm pretty sure the very last line of the episode (I have... *other* uses for you) was actually recorded by Tim Curry after Ian had already passed away.
This episode really stuck with me as a kid, especially when Darth Sidious came; I truly feared him after this episode. How powerful Savage and Maul were and how much they managed to built themselves up and their empire, and then Sidious came and nearly toppled it all down. I really had the sense that there is evil, and then there's a greater evil.
Really love the subtlety of sidious’ exhale as he kills savage and the constant wide grin, just shows how much of a psychopath sidious was and how this felt like such a cathartic release for him to fight and kill after years of putting up a constant act.

Eric makes the comment of “Imagine Anakin if Padmé was slaughtered in front of him.” I’m pretty sure Anakin would just fucking explode. Like full on Starkiller Force Repulse, like in the cinematic trailer when he had those storm troopers, saw Vader, did the repulse, and all of the closest ones were incinerated. But instead off all the ones within a few feet getting incinerated, I’m imagining the whole room. And instead of throwing his hands out to send the blast, he doesn’t even move beyond letting out a roar of pain and fury, and the sound wave combines with the force into a massive shock wave.
9:38 The fights are all so well choreographed in this show. It was so cool and clever of them to make Savvage block Palpatines 2 blades going for his neck and head by switching on his secondly blade. Proof that Savvage wasn't just a big dumb brute under Talzin's night sister magic.
So many great quote in that episode alone...How unfortunate that you are trying to deceive me...You have become A RIVAL !...Brother, i'm not like you...i never was...Remember the the first and only reality of the sith...there can only be 2...and you are no longer my apprentice...you have been replaced ! Avery lines of Maul and Sidious are amazing !
Sith who use dual lightsabers are usually very aggressive. In regards to Palpatine’s lightsaber choice in Ep. 3, I think he might’ve 1. used dual lightsabers particularly for more than one opponent or 2. Palpatine threw the fight against Mace and had the foresight to save one of his lightsabers for his inevitable duel against Yoda
Only ones I can think of that come close, mostly from the sheer emotional weight of the duel is ahsoka vs vader and maul vs ahsoka because of how real the fight feels with the mocap.
Have mercy please, PLEASE !!!...There is no mercy... At his lowest, you see the weakness of a Sith...For Maul it's cowardice, for Vador it's blindness and for Sidious it's overconfidence...the mask as fallen...I'm still not sure how he survive his encounter with Sidious !
Actually Maul wasn't asking Sidious to spare him he was asking him to kill him. Cause at this point wouldn't that be the one mercy left you could give Maul?
You misunderstand, the "mercy" Maul was pleading for was death. This is Darth Sidious, the greatest and most terrible evil in all of Star Wars, and Maul knows more than anyone that death is a mercy when it comes to him.
Apaprently, there is a deleted fight scene from Rise of Skywalker where Palpatine uses his two lightsabers to fight Rey and Kylo Ren in an actual proper lightsaber battle (instead of the cheap "reflecting lightning" ending we got), but we only have rumors as to if the deleted scene will ever actually get released...
So palps beat Maul in single combat, so doesn't that make him the rightful ruler of Mandalore, and he should get dark saber? Nvm eric mentioned it lol.
"The first and only rule of the Sith: There can only be two." After there have been multiple Sith Empires, and before Sidious himself takes on multiple pseudo-apprentices in the form of dark-side inquisitors. "First and only rule of the Sith" my-ass.
The mural on the wall where Savage is killed seen briefly in 10:26 is an homage to Picasso's "Guernica" (pronounced "gerh-NEE- kah) painting, a masterpiece inspired on nazi bombing of the basque town of Guernica during the spanish civil war, and a very strong symbol of the horror of war. The attention to detail of this show never ceased to amaze me.
After watching your comments on the "lack of weight in TCW's fights", I think I've realized a key strength of the team. In an old interview, Dave admitted that he's an okay animator at best, and he called his crew a team of great multitaskers. However, this reveals two major strengths of Dave. He may not be a great animator, but he's a fantastic director. Two, Dave and his crew are prime examples of "work WITH your limits, not against them". With the exception of Twin Suns, the best fights in TCW and Rebels usually don't reach the heights of Genndy's miniseries or the movies, BUT they do feature dynamic camerawork and blocking, nifty beats, and great character moments. Hell, the crew basically made Twin Suns by using their limited animation skills in creative ways, and they made Ahsoka's story by playing with TCW's cannon restrictions.
You have to give credit to Obi wan that the fact maul took away 2 of the people he loved very dearly in life who were qui gon and satine he didn’t go crazy and kept his cool
Fun fact: Savage Oppress is the only person in Star Wars to have dueled four different Sith Lords. First he fought Dooku with Ventress, he battled Anakin--who, of course later becomes one of the most notorious Sith--he briefly fought Maul over who should be the Master in their partnership, and finally met his end against Sidious.
As mentioned, Ian Abercrombie died before the end of the season (You do hear him again in Season 6, with the Scipio Arc). That last line spoken by Palpatine was done by Tim Curry, who voiced Palpatine for the rest of the series.

Satine was my girlfriends favorite star wars character, and she was like "does she die?" I kept lying to her for a couple months until we watched this episode. After it fully sunk in she didn't talk to me for a couple days
*_"If you only knew, how long I have been waiting for this."_*
-- Darth Sidious, Revenge of the Sith novelisation
This episode is one of the greatest pieces of Star Wars anything
What I love about this episode is when Palpatine decided to do a:(7:58) "Fine I'll do it myself moment" and "(8:58) Finally it feels it so good to fully express myself and to use a lightsaber again."
His so happy when his Darth Sidious the True Lord of the Sith.
The episode I was waiting for since then they announced they were going to react to this series.
Same!!
Man I wish we could’ve seen the sons of Dathomir arc animated
Blame Disney
@@CosmicAlpha101 and Cartoon Network, both are equally to blame for refusing to make a deal.
Same.
There’s always hope they could make a movie.
My, now second favorite episode of all of the clone wars. I also love the instant karma Maul has sent his way directly from the senate.
Maul: **kills Satine**
Palpatine: and now you have officially taken it too far buddy
Ian Abercrombie’s last episode before he passed away.
A fantastic episode to have as his last. May he rest in peace.
What an episode to go out on
This is Definitely one of the Best Clone Wars episodes of all time, fitting perfectly in my personal top 5
"This is where the fun begins "
I just love the parallels.
Obi-Wan in Episode III to Padmé: "Anakin ist the father, isn't he? I'm so sorry.
Obi-Wan to Bo-Katan: "You're Saltines sister, aren't you? I'm so sorry.
Gets me every time ...
Obi watching maull kill his master and him standing there hopeless
Maul watching Sidious kill his apprentice / brother and him standing there hopeless
irony
Karma really is a b!tch huh?
Maul was just decimating everyone and everything in this arc but when Sidious comes in he can’t even protect himself from a simple force push. Just showes what kind of monster Sidious is
Son of Dathomir audio comics reaction next? :D
YES PLEASE
Agreed. It's like 10 minutes each
(Spoilers)
Maul mentions how he escaped Sidious in the second episode of the actual arc so it isn’t really necessary. SOD & the Dark Disciple audio books would still make for a good reaction since they’re some of the best arcs that didn’t make it into the show sadly.
ABSOLUTELY.
@@seth-nico True, but it would be interesting for them to see how it all happens, as the Son of Dathomir comics have several interesting plot points and also introduce characters who return in the seventh season.
Eric clearly holding back tears at Satine is my mood
"Interested to see what Palpatine does with Maul next."
Yea, you won't tho...Unless you read the comic.
I like how Bo-Katan looked at Obi-Wans lightsaber to figure out which end emits the blade while cutting his bindings.
In a post interview after this episode aired Dave Filoni and Sam Witwer explain that Palpatine was genuinely impressed by Maul survival - in fact Maul's arc might subtly explains why Palpatine decides "save" Vader after his severe injuries on Mustafar.
Bro, sidious was scary as fuck when he was using two lightsabers.
Imagine you're in your prime, and this old dude shows up doing twirls and shit. 😂
This or the last ep of season 5 were the best episodes before the last 4 of season 7 came out. So god damn good.
@@ivmen98 The last episode of season 5 is the Ahsoka episode.
Season 7 and Siege of Mandalore are overrated. For me, "the Lawless" is the best Clone Wars episode PERIOD
A shame “Son of Dathomir” was never animated. That would have been amazing to see those fights and scenes fully animated.
Eric's face when Palpatine says 'prepare my ship'......he knew exactly what was about to go down..
I’m pretty sure that last Palpatine line was Tim Curry
Not me randomly rewatching this episode and hearing a line from "toxic love" right at the start that I never recognized before
I love that moment where Obi Wan tries to empathise with Maul by pointing out he didn't really choose the dark side.
When it comes to Star Wars, there is no greater evil than Darth Sidious.
Maul didn‘t begged Sidious to spare his live.
He begged Sidious to kill him.
Really love the subtlety of sidious’ exhale as he kills savage and the constant wide grin, just shows how much of a psychopath sidious was and how this felt like such a cathartic release for him to fight and kill after years of putting up a constant act.
Rip ian, non the less best episode yet. Palpatine shows how much of a badass he truly is.
tHis iS a “KidS” ShOw
Star Wars is for kids. Always was, always will be, even TCW.
@@godcaoss How unfortunate that you are trying to decieve me.
@@godcaoss Star Wars is for everyone my young padawan, you have much to learn.
Lucas Henrique how tf? There’s executions , slavery , suicides , beheadings, people blowing up/getting shot . It’s at the least pg13
@@aldo1871 calling something a “kids show” and giving it a rating are two different things. My little brother was playing BO2 when he was 6. There’s nothing wrong with a kids show tackling “mature” concepts like slavery or war. Avatar: The Last Airbender book 2 episode 16, Appa’s Lost Days; this episode won a Humane Society Genesis Award for it’s depiction of animal cruelty.
- Sorry, I don't believe we've met. You are...
- Bo-Katan. I'm here to rescue you. That's all you need to know.
- Sounds good to me.
- You ever used one of these before?
- No, but in this case, I'm a fast learner.
- Let's go!
This conversation is so short yet it's just priceless. Somehow it explains both characters so well with the minimum amount of words, and I always chuckle on the "sounds good to me".
7:59 Man, that scene with Palpatine preparing to encounter them, i knew the beast was ready to burst them
So many great quote in that episode alone...How unfortunate that you are trying to deceive me...You have become A RIVAL !...Brother, i'm not like you...i never was...Remember the the first and only reality of the sith...there can only be 2...and you are no longer my apprentice...you have been replaced ! Avery lines of Maul and Sidious are amazing !
Ever since Eric hinted at this moment in "The Mandalore Plot" reaction over a year ago, i've waited this moment ever since.
“I been WAITING for this one”
Sith who use dual lightsabers are usually very aggressive. In regards to Palpatine’s lightsaber choice in Ep. 3, I think he might’ve 1. used dual lightsabers particularly for more than one opponent or 2. Palpatine threw the fight against Mace and had the foresight to save one of his lightsabers for his inevitable duel against Yoda
Well, time to rip out everyone's heart the next two arcs 😭😭😭
When the Order 66 arc nears it's end, i'm gonna be watching Eric And Aaron's faces, because i know they're gonna cry.
Love all the little parallels between Korkie and Obi-Wan, really hoped he wasn't uh, punched to death there.
One of, if not The, best Lightsaber duel in the whole Star Wars Saga
Only ones I can think of that come close, mostly from the sheer emotional weight of the duel is ahsoka vs vader and maul vs ahsoka because of how real the fight feels with the mocap.
@@RezgamerLuc REALLY late response but you're absolutely right
When Maul and palpatine is having their final bout, you can see in the background a mural of sorts depicting Jedis vs mandalorians battle.
Son of Dathomir Comics. You can read the audio version here on youtube if you type it in the search button.
Actually Maul wasn't asking Sidious to spare him he was asking him to kill him. Cause at this point wouldn't that be the one mercy left you could give Maul?
Just realized you maybe already thought that but if not then well now you do.
You misunderstand, the "mercy" Maul was pleading for was death. This is Darth Sidious, the greatest and most terrible evil in all of Star Wars, and Maul knows more than anyone that death is a mercy when it comes to him.
Man that shot where Obi Wan sees the Civil Mandalorian Battle is iconic and amazing!
I've been waiting so long for them to get to this episode!!!!!!!!!!
I love the fact Calvin is singing "Toxic Love" at the start, which given that Tim Curry would take over for Sidious/Palpatine is fitting
Long have we waited for this episode
Just watched that episode yesterday on my whole star wars canon rewatch. GREAT EPISODE!
So palps beat Maul in single combat, so doesn't that make him the rightful ruler of Mandalore, and he should get dark saber? Nvm eric mentioned it lol.
Eric and Aaron's faces when Maul kills Satine.....love you guys. :)
Remember, the first and only reality of the Sith. There can only be two. And you are no longer my apprentice! You have been replaced!
"Faced with the same circumstances, Anakin becomes Vader, and Obi-Wan becomes more powerful than you can imagine"
What a great line.
What an episode time and again I watch this and it’s such a good episode and the impact of this episode is massive
You have to give credit to Obi wan that the fact maul took away 2 of the people he loved very dearly in life who were qui gon and satine he didn’t go crazy and kept his cool
I forgot just how packed this episode was, easily one of the best of TCW.
LONG HAVE I WAITED... AND NOW ITS COMING TOGETHER‼️‼️
Love the ferngully reference song Calvin, absolutely love it.
It has now been a little over a year since they first started watching Clone Wars. How time flies
Almec: “What of the people?”
Savage: *RRRRRGGHH…*
Top 5 episode right here.
This is without doubts, the best episode in whole Clone Wars. a 10/10.
I loved how Aaron was talking about Dooku vs. Yoda as if they were both real actors whose physical limitations needed to be kept in mind while filming
I was pleasantly surprised to hear that wonderful cover of Hexas’ song from Fern gully by Calvin
Eric smiling tho, i'm still sad they didn't animate Son of Dathomir
I started college this week and I think you guys are gonna help me get through these next few months😭👍Clone Wars is always helpful lmaoooo
Good luck with college. It's a transition, but it's a good transition
Same here started college this week too
Andrew Lance thanks! I’d rather be in the class room instead of having class over the computer but Ik that’s to keep everyone safe so I think I’ll manage😭😂👌
Alex Gaming Physical college is so much better & less stressful than normal School at least (at least for the UK) because it isn’t full time & the days are allot shorter as well. You get at least 4 days a week off as well & you can do the work in your own time as long as it reaches the deadline.
Well, we've all been waiting for this one!
I'm pretty sure this is the moment, where we've all been waiting for...
