Good to have you back, as a Roadster owner of 4 years I was throughly enjoying your uploads! If you are looking for a cost effective tip to replace the AC pipe. I was able to do this by avoiding the labour intensive route of dropping the engine attaching a lenth of string through the pipes loophole and threading it through from underneath with the car was jacked up. It took a bit of persevering to channel/feed the pipe past rear the sub frame so I'd maybe suggest finding a mate to help you guide it up through the engine bay. Requires some pateince but a satisfying end result!
Thanks Dan, it's nice to receive positive comments. I'm undecided on when to fix the AC pipes - I might drop the rear subframe at some point to repaint/powder coat and refresh the suspension. Your method of replacing the pipes is very useful though, thank you!
The whole rear sub frame could do with painting/powder coating. I might do this next winter during a suspension refresh. There's never a dull moment! 🤣
Hi Palmer, I am really happy to see your videos it's interesting to see you repairing your own car . I'm a new Smart Roadster owner and i have a problem with my A.C pipes, this pipes are broken or damaged so I'm looking for a new pipes to buy but i couldn't find them online .can you help me if you have a link for them online or maybe a parts shop where can i find them 😊.
That side light can be easily changed if you remove partially the plastic cover from the internal wheel arch. No need to remove headlights for changing that side light

How do you find it in comparison to the Lotus? Roadster and Elise S1 are the only cars I've ever owned more than one of. Very different driving experiences I thought, considering they're both tiny 800kg cars. Quite miss the K series now I'm Lotusless.
These two cars are similar in so many ways but offer two completely different driving experiences. The Roadster has become my practical 2-seater car that I use for more chilled drives. The Exige is nuts, especially with the ultra close ratio gearbox - it has that race car feel. I love them both. It's all about driving sub 1 ton cars 😁
@@palmergeddon You have a similar outlook to me, always thought I'd hang onto the Smart for bimbling round in if I bought another Lotus. Good to see somebody who appreciates nice cars liking the Roadster - they're sadly often overlooked. Always found them interesting and quirky to drive, but guess it helps if you've got something else to thrash the nuts off and don't care how fast the Roadster is or isn't. Close ratio gearbox makes a big difference in the Exige and Elise, PG1 always felt overly high geared as standard
Anyone buying a Roadster expecting a performance car is going to be disappointed and is missing the point. They are fun cars that make you a better driver if you take the time to learn how to drive them. It's definitely an overlooked car.
@@palmergeddon just bought one a couple of months ago... Absolutely love it, such a fun drive full of character... And doesn't break the bank either.. What's not to like 👍
Hello! i have the same problem with the squealing noise on my Roadster. Does the problem only originate from the belts? If so, all that i have to do is switch them out or apply some anti-slip stuff?
Hi! My squeal was coming from the water pump/alternator belt in the end. You can adjust the belt tension on the alternator - mine seemed tight and was difficult to tension any further, hence the spaying of the anti belt slip spay. I haven't driven the car since filming. I'll let you know if it has worked. If your belt is old, it's probably worth swapping it out for a new one. If it's relatively new, then try re-tensioning the belt and applying the anti slip spray. Good luck!
Makes me laugh that EU law says you need to carry a spare bulb kit at all times... even though you need to remove the entire front clip of some cars (AUDI, I'm looking at you) to replace a bulb. Even if you've got a handy-dandy bulb-kit in the glovebox, are you REALLY going to try to replace a bulb on the side of the motorway in the middle of a rainy night?
Thanks for this vid. Keep us updated on the Smart. All the best!
Cheers, buddy, will do!

Looking forward to some video about the Lotus. Looks and sounds great! And the color is simply 🥰
It's an awesome car, and it shares some similarities to the Roadster. I will try and video something soon.
@@palmergeddon Can't wait to!
Great job! You could try to weld the A.C. pipes. Noticed you fitted a stainless steel bolt and nut on the exhaust's lower mount. Top job!👌
Thanks, Vik! I have a spare pipe that I sourced a while back; I just need time to fit it.
@@palmergeddon Great! You might also give it a slight rust inhibitor and black paint on the rear axle and some wax cavity inside. 😋😉

Excellent video. Glad you’re back on UA-cam can’t wait for more content. Do you know anything about MR2’s?
🤣🤣 Cheers kuz! I know everything there is to know on MR2's 😂

good job but linking the parts you used in the description would be nice

Well done, great purchase 👏 Part of the fun with these cars is tinkering with them and learning how to get the most out of them.
