Hey, we hear you. We had "Internet" in the title to improve clickability, but have changed it to "Web" to ensure accuracy.
Thank you!
You just made it worse and more confused
It's confusing.
It's the same thing.
@@ChristopherHailey You can never be pleased. So it's okay.😊
"I don't know what web 3.0 will be made of, but web 4.0 will be sticks and stones" - Einstein, probably
Web 4, artificial superintelligence.
Web 5, spider silk.
web 3 is crypto nfts so yea like windows 8 its a big skip
Web 3.0 will be the dead internet, where it is impossible to find anything useful between all the AI generated garbage.
At which point, I think we’ll be filtering out modern results for results from a decade ago.
That's why they want to put a chip in your right hand. Then you'll be able to identify real people vs AI. People love tyranny when the tyrants call it "science".
@@elphive42 So basically you just admitted that GEN X is the apex of all generations just like we have all been telling you. BTW YOUR WELCOME!
Or maybe, all the searching results are fake results.
just like Google is trying to shove in our face all the sponsored ads and content and other garbage, when trying to look for something on Google search
So... Facebook?
I'm still waiting for Web 3.11 for Workgroups.
or Web NT 4.0
@@KidMorbid Or to skip Web 9 entirely and go staight to Web 10
@@robertianhawdon but what about web 9x and ME
@@robertianhawdon Don't you mean Web X? I first used the Internet with my C64 dial-up, and all I had that worked was Gopher and FTP. Those were the good old days.
Long live Netscape Navigator!
I really thought the two versions were going to be the public web and the dark web
The darkweb? Or the n-web?

I was fortunate to get the A/B thumbnail with "V2" on it. lol
Same. Thought this was gonna be about overlay and mesh networks. Pointers: tor, i2pd, yggdrasil
imho we are at Web 2.5; 2.0 is being deprecated by the enshittification but a clear path to the next milestone is not there just yet.
Hence, 2.5.
Web 3.0, aka the Dead Internet
Where no one can hear you scream!
And the internet got shittier the more time passes
The internet is better today in almost every way than it was 30 years ago. The only time I would say it was better than today was like 2016 up to even 2021. Before all this mass censoring on big websites began. The internet 30 years ago really was the wild west. ...and it more or less remained mostly that way until about 5 years or so ago. That's when all this big tech crackdown really started and became noticeable to the average person. Half the comments I make on youtube get removed. I know the reason is likely triggering keywords on channels that have virtually anything devisive censored, but it's insane how much of a safe space the internet has become and it's truly sad.
Enshitification
@@zUJ7EjVD enpoopening of everything is real, more money for more garbage, almost like competition isn't actually real
@@Stef.Cata051 As long as copyrights exist, competition isn't real.

The correct title of this video should be "There are TWO Versions of the Web". Come on, even ReBoot circa 1990's got this right.
More views from this title.
I thought it was going to be about the 2000s era high speed connection between universities called Internet2.
The Internet and the Web are used interchangeably by the layman even if they are not exactly the same technically. There's no need to split hairs.
@@anormalusername they are profoundly different, and that's not an excuse, especially from a tech channel. Should I just arbitrarily start saying "bytes" instead of "bits" for no good reason? Should I call my mouse a keyboard, since they're both input devices?
@@melvricbut the general populace do not care about the difference and use the words interchangeably so in reality it does not matter
The Mitochondrion is the PSU of the Cell
There’s also Internet2, a research and video network for colleges and research facilities. Just to make things more confusing. 👍
There are many internets, including the Internet
And intranet for business
@@ChristopherHaileyNo there is only the internet, it's like the universe, everything else is a system within itself
1:48 *STICK RPG YES*
Get some swords and sandals going and we've got a deal
One thing missing from 2.0 here is the humungous focus on dedicated mobile apps to navigate the web on top of existing computer browser tech, allowing companies to control the user experience even more, and harvest their data even more.
90% of "mobile apps" are nothing more than glorified websites running in a browser without the toolbars.
@@hubertnnnThat explains the horrendous performance and why they’re so power hungry.
@@mbsfaridiworst part is that it didn't stay with mobile apps, so many desktop programs these days are stupid Electron apps that ship chromium as the runtime and the website as the app. Hogs memory like nothing.
@@rudrasingh6354 Oh no! Which desktop programs are doing that? I’ll them up.
It's chill, we've got 2.0.1 ~ 2.9.9 to identify all the steps along the way
1:51 Adventure Quest! That brought some nostalgia
That really took me back, I loved Adventure Quest as a kid.
I remember when a few sites introduced midi while browsing, and I immediately thought it was a great idea, as previously, browsing was like watching a movie without sound. This was LONG before UA-cam or Google, this was back when I would get 2 or 3 AOL disks in the mail every week.
I forgot about when they started getting incorporated into background and would auto play. Hated that. Always startling
Reminds me also of first being able to hit play or download directly from the browser instead of being linked to a file or even an ftp space
Web 4.0 will be beyond the blackwall
Souls will be uploaded and secured.
hey careful what you say. Netwatch is always monitoring
I was there 3000 years ago when web2.0 emerged. Back then, the most notable change was that the websites' menu section went from left side to right side (we, now old people, were furious about it) Oh, and the round corners everywhere.
No more square grey buttons with beveled edges.
When frames were deprecated...
Hell man, I remember discovering MUDs. Was so innovative at the time
Web 2.0 is going to get infested by bots so badly that it will become unusable. It already is to a certain degree.
Semantic web is term that was "in fashion" in 2008 already.
Had a discussion not too long ago exactly about trying to figure out what "Web 1.0" was. Thank you for the clear answer.
I have no history knowledge to call it but for me web 2.0 changed when sites stopped to being integrated. When creativity was blooming and people saw an opportunity to make stuffs for profit. Then a lot of great stuffs died down. This was around 2004~2006 IMO
man...those errors would drive me insane! 😤🤣
2000s were the best era of internet. RIP those times that are never coming back
Agreed. Seeing that old Yahoo page, I was reminded of times when we could actually search effectively without being bombarded by ads and invaded with scripts that track us and harvest some of our most personal information. I remember finding relevant information provided by people who believed in putting content on the web for the benefit of the world, rather than attacking each other over copyright and gatekeeping information for profit.
When people come together to make useful things for all of us to use, we are capable of extraordinary feats and amazing progress. Then capitalism takes over and ruins it all.
Sorry, NOT capitalism's fault. What you're mad at is corporatism. A monopoly by a tiny handful of megacorps. Real companies and market competition have been stamped out. Quality goods and services are not being created anymore.
@@kirkmooneyham But isn't that an inevitability of capitalism run by humans? Very strong, expansive regulation could prevent it. But it seems every capitalist country winds up with its government influenced or outright controlled by corporations who then dismantle regulation and eliminate market competition.
I am an elder millennial. Get off my cybernated lawn.
Web 3.0 is the third level that we have reached. It was originally referred to in that way in 2006,
Web 4.0 apps are made to be easier to use and facilitate rapid information and idea sharing amongst users.
Web 3 needs to come ASAP.
LMG writers messing up again.
Did now know the web had different versions.
Thanks!
Internet 2 before Gta vi

Can't wait for protocol 7 :D
great info....
Oh wow adventure quest, that takes me back 😅
The jab at the end was so spot on. I'm an elder millennial and am absolutely pissed. 😂 Great video though .🤘

"Remember when you could just buy a seat?"
I feel like we're at the end of 3.0 going into 4.0. W1 was basic sites & forums made by companies, professionals & nerds. W2 was the era where anybody could start making and participating in sites & forums due to the the various free hosting things out there (Angelfire, FreePHP, Lycos, Geocities, etc). W3 is easily the "Social Yearbook" era and started with MySpace and it's the everybody is connected to everybody and knows what's going on era. Strangely enough it's also gone back to basically corporations, professionals & nerds making their own sites & forums. W4 is the super algorithmic based sterilized streamlined AI infused web were seeing rollout now.
Keep in mind that these kind of generations overlap too, web 2.0 was still going strong in the early web 3.0 days just like web 3.0 is still going strong as we wade into web 4.0.
Just remember It's not a truck, It's a series of tubes!
Ted Stevens was more accurate about what the internet is than this video
I could have sworn I've heard some of the background music in the Fitness Gram Pacer Test.

Perhaps the views count starts as soon as you click the link
Bloody hell, Stick RPG
Wasn’t expecting that
And here I was thinking about IPv4 and IPv6....
Can I please get access to the version without social media? Thanks in advance.
Web version 1.0: made money from Ads.
Web version 2.0: made money from you.
Web 3.0: Steals your money in a Crypto Scam.
A lot of Web 1.0 money came from dial-up service and hosting. Most sites were people just wanting to get their stuff out there.
Web rings led to banner ads, but they made a pittance compared to what advertising is today. Maybe faulty memory, but I can't remember ads at all before branded search engines (later mostly "web portals"). This was around when gopher and WAIS got left behind, IIRC.
Honestly, '80s Internet (like BBSs & Usenet), early '90s web, and late '90s web were all pretty different phases now that I think about it.
@@Bryanhaproff yea sadly honestly wasted potiential but im not going to get into it youtube isnt friendly to crypto comments im not going to suggest ya any though just stick to stable ones [aka ones based on a currency like USD so they are not used for some "investment" and dont have the huge ups and downs if anything though lol gotta say though wish it worked out as visa fees are getting out of hand and we really need more compitition in the payment processor landscape [lol i know i probably look like a bot as i know how bad this platform is with shady crypto bot thats expactly why i went out of my way never to name one stable coins is just a broad one of crypto with coins pegged at a dollar so they are really not possible to use as a pump and dump scam but more as a real currency aka they wont make u rich or any money thats not the point in them but instead to be an alternative currency that can help offset the riseing visa costs and fees and surcharges and idk i could names things all day but honestly im fed up with all the payment processing fees and cash is only useable IRL and not online
FYI i think using them as "investments" is highly dumb and never ever recommend it i just wanna see more adoption so visa and mastercard are forced to actually compete again and drive down fees
oh web 2 still makes money from ads the data is just used to serve u more targeted ads
web != internet
The Internet and the Web are used interchangeably by the layman even if they are not exactly the same technically. Many thesauruses consider the terms as synonyms or near synonyms. There's no need to split hairs.
True, but this a technology specific journalistic UA-cam channel, not a layman
web factorial is the internet apparently
@@anormalusername How many times have you copy-pasted this exact comment?
@@anormalusername Is it really though? I feel like people know that a typical app on their phone connects to the internet and not to the web
I miss when people hosted their own website, before everything was absorbed and controlled by giant evil corporat services.
Yes, megacorps have stamped out real competition among companies trying to provide quality goods and services as a way to make a living.
What I do know is I will pay to have internet that is free of A.I. as Humans hold more Value than inanimate objects that can spell.
Haven’t updated yet is it worth it

No one is going to use it until it is web free
how closely do the eras of web connect to the waves of Ska? Is there a fourth wave? Who can say

When are you dropping the JavaScript course?
Ah yes, i'm waiting for Web 3.0, where ai bot will be searching ai results made by ai algorithm based of ai content for ai purpose ....... ....... ........
In other words, it will be utterly useless. So much search is already that way.
Web and internet is a different thing
Did Web 3.0 use to refer to the Internet of Things - I feel back in the late 2010s, I always heard of Web 3.0 together with Industry 4.0, as an interconnected mesh of sensors that would inform every service you use about everything you do.
Daaaaaaaaaaamn Age of War. O! The nostalgia!!
The internet was created before I was born, the web was created after. Not the same thing.
They're the same thing. It was clarified a few years ago. It's offensive to the web creators to suggest otherwise.
The Internet and the Web are used interchangeably by the layman even if they are not exactly the same technically. Many thesauruses consider the terms as synonyms or near synonyms. There's no need to split hairs.
The internet and the web are two very very different things
This must be that "Semantic Web" he was talking about.
We're in the future.
web = internet
Speaking of "old" web, does anybody remember "Joe Cartoon"?
do you remember happy tree friends? they were related if i remember correctly
@@gamecubeplayer I missed that one. Do you remember Liquid Television on MTV? The origins of Aeon Flux, Beavis and Butthead, among many others, and my personal favorite, The Maxx.
I wish we could go back to having real applications rather than electron (looking at you discord) and everything wasnt a webpage
webpages are actually pretty neat for developers. It is very similar to what Java tries to do: An engine of sorts, that can run on any platform the engine is implemented on. You just develop your thing so it can run on that engine and bam: you thing runs on almost anything. I rather have webpages than apps for everything that could be just a webpage. Granted, you could have (much) better performance with a native app, but then you also would have like one third of the features, because everything would take thrice the time to develop, if you want to support multiple platforms. The dev also might just decide that it is not worth it to develop for the platform that you like the most.
@@dr.robertnick9599yep, tech is just a tool to achieve a desired outcome
a subpar tool that achieves your goals is infinitely better than a great tool that only achieves some of your goals
Funny how they use web shit to make development easier but it keeps being worse instead. Same shit with video games.
Like how Skype can't compete with MSN Messenger. I'd be curious to know the global cost of all the electricity wasted on their web shovelware just to run google's bloat as well.
Remember those Japanese mobile only websites that was really the different variant of internet
Web vs Internet wars still rages on
Back in the good ole days of things like Adobe Flash Player when we needed it just to watch UA-cam videos.
"Web" is what you think it is in your head.
"Internet" has Accounts Payable and Receivable
As an elder millennial I am already pissed off and I have no idea what version of web 3 will win out
In the States we have I1 and I2. Most of the world is already on I2 but here it is only for a few and we still mostly are on I1. So we still have an older system for us mortals and business and the universities use the faster I2.
web 3.0 will more impact the network level with techniques like IPFS and moving from personal computers to private computing and hardware clusters. Apps can be build on blockchain, and data will be decentralised stored on your own private cloud of devices. Of course companies will try to keep it al in their ecosystem, but it will really start as you can daisy chain any vendor. in some way we already have some examples of it, where you can miracast between your phone or laptop to a tv.
And here i thought he was going to talk about Internet2 and IP6
4:51 LEAKED!!! Linus is using Harambe's DNA to create a Linus-Harambe hybrid! LEAKED!!!
It’s been a long time since my computers spit out error messages, besides when I make a game crash.
*Points out tech-related flaws from TV shows*
Would have been nice to see non-blockchain decentralization mentioned. Things like SOLID and AnyType.
Love all the pedants making the niche technical distinction between web and internet when this vid is designed for the average person that uses the two words interchangeably
active x.... now that is something i havent heard in a long time
For me web3 is what fediverse tries to achieve, a standard that let's site to be easily interoperable with one another. Maybe we will get there someday.
I don’t know what about you, but I just miss Web 2.0 Gloss (aka Frutiger Aero), and hopelessly waiting for it to come back to life.
I'd argue web 3.0 is the popularisation of things like web assembly and simply local software being replaced with in-browser software. Software "in the cloud" but not through a remote desktop. Actually software running on serverparks.
Not sure I would have called web 1.0, 1.0 but maybe 1.5 or 2. There was a web prior to what is described in this video as 1.0.
This is web evolution not internet versions. If it was we would be talking about the quantum encrypted network and quantum encrypted satellite china launched that banks and businesses are using. That I believe we can call 2.0
The deployment of "Web 3.0" will be like launching "Skynet" in real life and we all know what happens next 😶
Actually... semantic web was a thing of web 2.0
Web 3.0 was initially defined as the Internet oh Things (that is, appliances accessing the Internet in addition to humans) AKA embedded systems
The funniest part of this is that the internet now is all about consumption.
You didn't include Web 5, dangit
hey TechQuickie, are we gonna see Anthony anytime soon?
1:50 lamo the name on this character. I know its prolly his alias...but Damn.
Dfinitt foundation the bigget contributer to icp is serving the real Web 3.0 for 3 years now
Huh. I was expecting a video on ipv6.
Quick to watch or quick to make?
Sure !
Web 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 why the naming makes sense, why on planet earth no one came with a name like web 3.2 alpha gen3 type B max 1950S
IPFS would be a nice improvement.
So I mean, reading the comments has helped me differentiate between “web” and “internet”. For the non technical layperson like me it sends like this: the “internet” is the nervous system and the “web” is what the nervous system connects to….like organs, and other sub-systems…autonomic, immune, auditory, visual, sensations, limbs, digits, etc.
I miss when web 3 was suppose to be vr/ar "xr"
There are two version of the web: World Wide Web, and Spider Web. You're welcome guys!
Really thought you were gonna talk abkut the dark web and the regular web
I think web3 is moreso decentralized peer-to-peer protocols than just blockchain. Stuff like IPFS or even the fediverse.
There is no such thing as Web 3.0 - it's a bunch of marketing jargon that means literally nothing specific - but may include crypto/blockchain/metaverse/etc. so nebulous and not helpful
Yes. It's a Buzzword and scam
And here I thought Web 2.0 was just shiny 3D buttons everywhere
Web 1.0: Websites take forever to load unless you have a stellar connection
Web 2.0: Websites take forever to load period.
Web 3.0: The website is you
Web 4.0: Bend over
What I think is going on with "Web 3.0" is companies desperately trying to find the next evolution for the sole purpose of making investors happy and trying to push new technologies out the door as quickly as possible. First it was crypto, then the Metaverse, and now - generative AI.
You guys are still on the Internet? I'm on PiperNet
