I mean, I think it looks pretty and all but I dislike "self-inserts," honestly. It doesn't change that Amalee is an amazing singer and her translations are amazing, but it just irritated me when people insert themselves in fanfics, song covers, etc. Especially when they make them self seem like the main character. I think it's a little obnoxious. Especially when Homura's song (because it seems like the lyrics are Homura's feelings) turns into some OC's song....

I feel like this song is referring to ALL magical girls who's only reason for living is honoring a selfish wish they unknowingly sold their soul for. So inserting a self insert is like adding another character to a song that resonates with every person in the series (even self inserts perhaps)
The thing I like about "Magia" is that the lyrics (both here and in the original Japanese version) can also be interpreted as Homura's thoughts throughout Rebellion. Particularly in this cover the part about whether or not saving the person you love is a selfish act, and the line "I won't regret making this sinful wish of mine" sounds like Homura trying to convince herself that she doesn't have any second thoughts about what she did by the movie's end. Also, I love the irony in having an image of Kyubey accompany the line "So trust me."

It’s weird how this song basically spoils Homura’s motivations. Its obviously sung from her perspective, recounting how she fell in love with Madoka and how she’s trapped in a cycle of endlessly trying to save her.
Kyubei isn't human, so he isn't innocent or guilty. He said he could not contemplate human emotions, so he could not understand why losing a friend would be melancholy and unfortunate. A high IQ does not mean a high EQ; knowledge does not equal understanding.
Except he does understand. He explicitly approaches girls in their lowest point so they will make the contracts, and stops at nothing to break their will into contracting once he sets his sights on them. EDIT: In many timelines, he convinces Madoka to make a contract so she gets the power to stop whatever it's troubling her friends. His contracts with Mami and Kyouko were made under duress, Mami would have literally died had she refused and Kyouko was literally starving. Sayaka had learnt her lesson about not wishing for someone else unless it was completely selfless, but then Kyousuke had a meltdown and Kyubey just so happened to be there to push Sayaka into contracting. Homura's contract was *also* upon duress, due to Walpurgsnatch having killed everyone on her friend group.
Fun fact everyone: Because of Homura's constant going back and forth, all magical girls are canon! 😁 including fanmade ones! At least, last I heard. 😅 Also, anyone else remember when the line was "You'll say words you've never heard. That's when confusion will start." Cause that's what's ingrained in my mind. 😅
How to make everything even worse; After Walpurgisnact is finally defeated a single girl with dead purple eyes carrying a scythe emerges from within it. She says to Homura "Greetings Child of Man, My name is Frederica Bernkastel. And like you I was once one who lived in loops. Now I as the Witch of Miracles shall show you what true despair is!".
"The fairy tales i loved have taught me, No matter what hurdles there may be, your wish comes true" This verse perfectly fits Kyoko, when you think about it.
I don't know if there's a canonical name for Homura's "Devil Form", like Madoka's Goddess Form is called "The Law of Cycles", but I've been calling her "The Will of Love". What do you think?

Asehpe I've never seen K-on, but I doubt it would surpass Love Live! In my mind anyway lol, and yes I do recommend it. It's amazing. It's a fun, silly, beautiful anime. It's got an amazing ost, and the songs in it are good too. Fair warning though, if you get attached to the group of 9, be prepared to have your heart ripped out, stomped on, shredded and blended into oblivion. It's also a very sad show. Not at first, but the more you get into it...yeah. I highly recommend it though, especially if you like: slice of life, comedy, drama, and crying. A lot of crying.
this might be a little dumb to say now since most of these replies say *1 month ago* right now, but it still is mostly about Madoka. However, later on it's still about Madoka, but with a slight perspective switch? I guess we'll put it like that. At least that what it feels like. especially through rebellion. This entire anime series is focused on Madoka, because that's what Homura is focusing on. Either way, that's just my two cents

I remember scrolling past it on Netflix thinking it was just another boring Magical Girl anime. I was a bit curious about it though, so I searched it up online and saw that it had more layers than it seemed. I figured, sure, why not. Absolutely destroyed my initial image of it, even if I expected it to be dark from the start. HOLY FUCK.

Actually the opening is not a lie, it all sets up to the big finale at the end of the anime. The lyrics coincide with the anime perfectly as it is set from Homura's point of view. As well as the ending which is also set in Homura's view. The entire anime sets up to see how Homura tries to save the one's she loves, over and over and over again, in both the opening and the ending. You may think that the anime is about Madoka herself when actually it is about Homura. Everyone else is just a side character leading up to the big ending, like I said before.

Kyubey is a reference to the fox demons. A good example is da shi of chinese mythology. They are said to possess females to use their bodies in some versions of their myth.

Firebrain Its a little bit of both. Its used as an opening and as a credits scene/opener (especially in the movies). I like it so much cos it really embodies Madoka's spirit and values.
Samanthera Aki Kyubey's contracts are kinda similar to some extent to Fullmetal Alchemist's Law of Equivalent Exchange either from both the Original or Brotherhood. If one wishes to gain something, something of equal value must be lost. In a way Homura's despair is the counterweight to the hope Madoka brings 😔 every possibility fulfilled is the eradication of another possibility, which is why wishes are at their most precious when they are your uncertain hope rather than your destiny
I wanna hear you try Kimi no Gin no Niwa. I feel it's pretty underrated as a Madoka Magica song, and it allows for a lot of emotional exploration vocally.

It's also about how their wishes are never quite what they expected: Kyouko wished that more people would attend her father's sermons, and the universe responded by mind controlling hundreds of people, leading to a...decidedly negative reaction from her father. Sayaka wished to cure a boy's illness so they could be happy together...only for a love triangle to pop up at exactly the same time she learned what it really means to have a soul gem. Mami wished to survive a traffic accident...but her parents didn't, leaving her all alone in a world of Witches. Homura wished to have a second chance to save Madoka...and got trapped in an endless time loop that just drove in the point that she's not strong enough to do that. Madoka wished to prevent the formation of Witches retroactively, and everything turned out all right...except for Homura.
What do I think of it? I think the best way to express what I thought of Magica is with this quote "Always read the fine print". Why? Because if a talking stuffed animal looking thing keeps trying to get you to sign a stupid contract. Question the crap out of it.

I watched the original English-lyric video shortly after discovering PMMM for the first time. It was one of the most harrowing, depressing experiences of my life, and I mean that in the best possible way. This has topped that. And I didn't think anything short of Kalafina's original music COULD. Not only have you tweaked the lyrics to better suit the song, the art and editing have created an amazing music video. I love the artist's mature, painterly style, and even your self-insert looks great. Honestly, artists have been using music videos to insert themselves into the plot of movies and TV shows since there've been soundtrack singles, so the character doesn't even bother me the way self-inserts usually do. At least she looks cool, and you apparently have a moment where she goes Witch? Creepy, but effective. I'd have liked to see her Witch form. :p So not only have you outdone yourself on the English version of this song, you've also created a self-insert story I do not hate. Congratulations! It’s weird how this song basically spoils Homura’s motivations. Its obviously sung from her perspective, recounting how she fell in love with Madoka and how she’s trapped in a cycle of endlessly trying to save her.

Except he does understand. He explicitly approaches girls in their lowest point so they will make the contracts, and stops at nothing to break their will into contracting once he sets his sights on them.
EDIT: In many timelines, he convinces Madoka to make a contract so she gets the power to stop whatever it's troubling her friends. His contracts with Mami and Kyouko were made under duress, Mami would have literally died had she refused and Kyouko was literally starving. Sayaka had learnt her lesson about not wishing for someone else unless it was completely selfless, but then Kyousuke had a meltdown and Kyubey just so happened to be there to push Sayaka into contracting. Homura's contract was *also* upon duress, due to Walpurgsnatch having killed everyone on her friend group.
My grandfather always taught me to read carefully every paper I'll sign in my life. Now I understand why.

Asehpe I've never seen K-on, but I doubt it would surpass Love Live! In my mind anyway lol, and yes I do recommend it. It's amazing. It's a fun, silly, beautiful anime. It's got an amazing ost, and the songs in it are good too. Fair warning though, if you get attached to the group of 9, be prepared to have your heart ripped out, stomped on, shredded and blended into oblivion. It's also a very sad show. Not at first, but the more you get into it...yeah. I highly recommend it though, especially if you like: slice of life, comedy, drama, and crying. A lot of crying.

Actually the opening is not a lie, it all sets up to the big finale at the end of the anime. The lyrics coincide with the anime perfectly as it is set from Homura's point of view. As well as the ending which is also set in Homura's view. The entire anime sets up to see how Homura tries to save the one's she loves, over and over and over again, in both the opening and the ending. You may think that the anime is about Madoka herself when actually it is about Homura. Everyone else is just a side character leading up to the big ending, like I said before.

I hate and love madoka magica. I thought, hey, magical girls, fun! I got sadness and tears shed over fictional characters. 10/10 would recommend.

I watched the original English-lyric video shortly after discovering PMMM for the first time. It was one of the most harrowing, depressing experiences of my life, and I mean that in the best possible way.
This has topped that. And I didn't think anything short of Kalafina's original music COULD.
Not only have you tweaked the lyrics to better suit the song, the art and editing have created an amazing music video. I love the artist's mature, painterly style, and even your self-insert looks great.
Honestly, artists have been using music videos to insert themselves into the plot of movies and TV shows since there've been soundtrack singles, so the character doesn't even bother me the way self-inserts usually do. At least she looks cool, and you apparently have a moment where she goes Witch? Creepy, but effective. I'd have liked to see her Witch form. :p
